I wish PlayTV came to North America ( need Canadian love too :) ). The digital transition's due date is no later than June 12, 2009. This means that some television stations will still be broadcasting analog until they legally have to by the 12th of June.

Now i have a question. Will this switch really help out people who are already in cable and higher services? Better quality for us??

@ fezthabest ~ "Now i have a question. Will this switch really help out people who are already in cable and higher services? Better quality for us??"

Yes & No.

Yes because now all the remaining analog channels that are on our services will be 100% digital (so better quality right there, except for Satellite as they have been 100% digital for a long time already), and because of them being digital their "size" will be compressed.

HOPEFULLY allowing more channels, selection & HD offerings....BUT (and here is the "No" part) you know that the Service providers are somehow going to use "more stuff" as an excuse to charge more when in reality they are actually SAVING money because of the saved "space" digital offers them.

Basically more stuff but more money as usual by the service providers...damned bastards.

@ PirateThom ~ "It may see a release once the US switches to digital TV."

I find it highly unlikely (though I REALLY want PlayTV) because the reason PlayTV works well over seas is the additional service you get with the on screen guide and etc. and as far as I have heard there where/are no plans to offer something similar to that here in the states (though I would gladly love to be wrong ;) in this case!)

Happy I bought it! Brilliant product! Nice update!!!

Only thing it needs is the ability to record series without having to worry about change of tv schedule and it'll be perfect.

BTW can anybody tell me if this HD upscaling is worth it?, I watch TV with the built-in tuner of my Sony Bravia. Will this make a difference?

Bravias are pretty high-tech. Check if it supports upscaling (it will say on the box or in the manual).

I'd rather have upscaled than standard if HD wasn't available! (though in a future update HD will be available/recordable on PlayTV)

About the "Direct to live TV" thing...

Anyone care to explain it. According to the link it says there should be a button on the XMB to go straight there. I see nothing like that.

It's in settings -> preferences

Set "show main menu" to "no". It means it should go straight to TV when launched from the XMB...

Thanks.

Could do with it being quicker. You still have a 15 second pause from pressing the playtv icon to the menu/live TV
