The jungle looks amazing - just wish we had direct feed images instead of these crappy scans!

Interesting that the final soundtrack will react dynamically to the onscreen action ingame :P that's cool.

You saw the original one right? Their animations for this are mind blowing. Just sooo good. I believe the original was ingame, since Naughty Dog have never released footage that wasn't using the ingame engine before. And yeah Naughty Dog AI and movement is the best - they designed their own AI programming system which is used a lot in the industry now and I hear it's far superious to other methods. :P

ps. are these scans from Edge magazine? As these shots weren't on the GI scans.

Oh and I forgot to say DJ...it's Uncharted: Drake's FORTUNE :)

The interview preview said, they will have 2 characters on your sides? not sure if they are playable (most likily not). One is the girl who's a journalist i think, and the 2nd one is a elderly gentleman who's named is Sullivan or something. He's suppose to be your mentor and come to your rescues from time to time i think.

Due to the setting of the story, its hard for me to imagine there would too many characters to interact with. But i dont know, just guessing.. treasure hunt, deserted island, u know what i mean. I am hoping i will like this one, bc i hated all the tomb raider for some reason. Hope there will be more even amount of action vs. crazy puzzles on this one.

3 - Very Impressive !

Thanks DJ for the screens, looking at individual leaves on a tree or vine rather than the same old Unreal-Engine style texture leaves is a sight I had been so long in waiting. Now its affirmative that there is a game and in the very first year of PS3 launched that pulls off this feat of insane polygon frenzy and even with individual grass blades that sway with the wind.

You guys do remember Naughty Dog's PS2 masterpiece Jak 3 right? That title was among the very first that had me stunned at how much polys it threw on-screen. Just going into the non-loading, seamless desert and watching that every pebble, every vegetation and every thorn on the cactus tree were whole 3D objects rather than textures, and mostly were destroyable at that, was a sight both delightful and awe-inspiring. And all the mountains were a collection of individual giant rocks...with day and night models changing the light over them !...it was insanity, and the devs who could pull that stuff on a 7 years old PS2 can be guaranteed to rock the world when it comes to the power of PS3...and its just the start yet !!!

The more im starting to realize. Drake is one of the PS3's secret weapons. Could this be. An answer to Gears. Imagine that. Without even knowing or using the Unreal Engine 3. Naughty Dog vs. Epic ?

But these two games are in very different art-direction, it will be difficult to compare them IMO.

8 - purely breath taking

very outrageous and ambitious are the guy over at naughty dog, after all they are the one that gave playstation there mascot, crash bandicoot... and that game was amazing, and then in the ps2 cycle it was the impressive masterpiece, the jak series... This is by far among the best of the second gen games for the ps3 thats certainly eating away at what the xbox360 has to offer. and to think that this game is using the "ICE engine" that was built speciafically for graphic textures and AI on the ps3, coupled by the "PS Edge", which works with the cell and RSX in tandem... amazing stuff. I've always been a fan of naughty dogs mater piece and this along with Insomniac's R&C future: will be a games to show why the ps3 shouldn't be plainly written of because of bad publicity in it's early outing, after all the 360 when in this same scrutiny when they launched in 05 after their poor E3 showing in that year.

man this year is looking to be big...

Ms 2007 line up:

Mass effect, halo 3, forza 2, PGR4, Shadowrun, blue dragon, GTA4, AC and lost odessey(in japan)

Ps3 line up for 2007:

Lair, Heavenly Sword, GTA4, DMC4, MGS4, Killzone, R&C future, AC, Uncharted: DF, and warhawk, Tekken 6, Ninja gaiden: Sigma.

and nintendo 07 line up: Mario galaxy, Metriod prime 3: corruption, Smash bro's brawl, and thats all i can think of.

this year is gonna be one hell of a year. Ms is showing it's guns and sony isn't backing down either. the games are coming people they are coming.... and you know what this year is the year ps3 gets it apples in the basket and then 2008 will be the year it shows why it's the king .

games like FF13 and versus 13, white knight Story, RE5, 8 days, GT5, Wipeout, LBP, Monster hunter 3 Onimusha 5.

man 0h revealing day for ps3, while MS will too human, huxley and probably Gears of war 2.

Looks really nice and the video is awesome. Really nice animtation and it looks like he makes good use of cover in a firefight.

And remember these are just crappy scans. Have a look at some of the old screens and check out the texture work on them. Games are getting better and better.

Who willing to bet with me that once you're in game there will be no loading times, like Jak & Daxter. Seamless, I'm predicting.

The more I see things like this, the more I want to see Afrika.

I guess all of you have seen someone actually playing the game, true ingame footage? If not I don't see the hype. Sure, it's nice to look at but so was many of the trailers Sony showcased at E3 2006. It's funny how easily people forget. I'm not trying to bash Ps3 in any way, some of the games that are out look great. But seriously, any experienced gamer can spot that the shots aren't of someone playing the game. I mean look at the camera angles. Also the animation seen in trailers behaves in a way that would not be possible ingame. I'm just saying, donät get your hopes up too much before you've seen what the game actually plays like. Although I don't doubt Naughty Dogs capability of creating amazing games.

I trust naughty dog. They have never released a trailer that isn't ingame engine. Also their target for this game was for realistic movement that is responsive - hence why the movements in the trailer looked ahead of their time. Let's just say you'll be very pleasently surprised :)

Oh and camera angles? Look at Heavenly Sword and eventually Too Human - the camera is becoming more cinematic and out of the gamers hands.

Coolfool - you're wrong - we've already seen leaked gameplay screens from one of the designers and they look just as impressive

With all the "target renders" and cut scene footage it is easy to remain skeptical that in-game will look or play anything as impressive as these screens suggest it might.

I think these screens are definately not game play footage but are the in-game engine.

I think the video is all game engine, and I think the over the shoulder shooting parts are actual gameplay. It looks great, but not CGI great. Definately game engine graphics and I would guess show actual gameplay mechanics and animation.

Does Naughty Dog have something else up their sleeves outside of the Jak and Drake series? With Insomniac, I think they will be releasing a new RFOM and Rachet game every other year. Do you think Naughty Dog will follow ... Or will they introduce a third franchise? Just throwing this out there as I'm curious what my brothers in all things gaming think. 20.1 - To My Understanding

Its not just looks. But dev's have learned even more than they originally knew about the hardware and have found more ways to squeeze power out of it. Thats the only logical explanation for the terminology. So 2nd Gen probably and more likely means they have figured out new and useful ways to play with the cell and RSX combo to get better results. So Microsoft was being pretty foolish when they said they will always be a "Gen" ahead in games. They knew better than what they were saying but its all apart of their PR. They like to rally up their fans.

Difference

Sony attacks Microsoft directly.

Microsoft attacks Sony via Fanboy army.

20.3 - Well GFT, you have to remember

that Gears of War was in development for so long that it actually forced Microsoft to change the RAM specs for the 360 (late 2004). Insomniac on the other hand didn't even touch final PS3 hardware until May 2006. In fact, the very reason so many PS3 titles got such a noticeable performance upgrade between E3 and TGS '06 is because some major pieces of hardware were missing in the Alpha and Beta kits (i.e. FlexI/O Memory Bus and the RSX GPU). Up until then they were using 7800GTX's connected through PCI to the motherboard.

Also I don't know if you know how well devs are getting at polishing up their graphics in a matter of months now. Heavenly Sword are doing it, and it is being done here too. They have a whole year since that trailer. We'll see more at e3 so be ready to be surprisedI am still hella pleased with the original footage even though you are unimpressed - it was a trailer that got me going WOW whn I saw it.

the animations in that trailer are also what the ingame gameplay will be like :P

30 - It looks better in motion

I was a little harsh on this in my earlier post on the screens. It looks better in motion thanks for the video link a few posts up. This is a departure form other PS3 titles since this one seems to have alot more color in it. graphics arent mind blowing but the gameplay looks fun. I like the realistic jumping climbing etc. (ie not 400 foot leaping over buildings.)
