Here are pictures and a video on the development tool for PlayStation 3(PLAYSTATION EDGE)from Sony, which was presented at the Game Developers Conference 07.
The video shows a scenario demontsrating a game similar to sony`s upcoming tittle(Getaway), in which hundreds of cars and characters are seen on screen.

if those are real ingame demo Crysis can be done on PS3 hardware cuz those pics above me looks a lot better on Crysis on my opinion.

3 - Wow.

Sony really stepped it up to get powerful, easy-to-use tools to their developers, regardless if they're first-party or third-party. And this is still a Beta version of Edge. What's interesting is that this entire discussion was on getting the SPUs to work in tandem with the RSX; had Sony not put in that 35GB/s flexIO bus between Cell and RSX, a lot of what you're seeing just wouldn't be possible due to bandwidth restrictions.

ok so now there is no doubt, ps3 owners will be happy in the future for sure, when Sony keeps updating such tools, then we will see some really beautiful visuals in games (of course it depends on the devs, if they are experienced enough to make usage of the tools...)

10 - 5 year battle.

By the time sony has caught up, and delivered on some of the next gen promices they made a year ago and still continue to make the battle will have moved to the next level and then what 4 sony?
They have lost there lead and will not get it back.

it's five years to sell,5 more to make easy money.sony changed that with ps1 and ps2.

if microsoft brought out a system in four years,it will hurt the game industry,companies would stay with ps3 and 360 because the money you would need to make games would be ridiculous.microsoft bled money on xbox,have yet to profit on this gen with 360,and you want them to jump and make another system?

you don't know the market well my friend.

as for playstation edge:looks very good.i hope devs outside of sony benefit from them giving it away to make games on ps3.

if you want to drop another 400 bucks in 5 years then be my guest. I have a feeling that the technology sony used its future oriented, and with sony they are constantly tweaking the system . Just look at the original ps2 and the slim ps2. Once developers utilize the tools and grasp the potential that is the cell processor, the flow of great games will come.. for years.

Well "my friend" I do enjoy the latest and greatest tech. So if in 5 years there is a new console that has the potential and the games sure I will buy it. Just like I bought an xbox 360 and still own many other consoles of years past. the ps3 sure has some more potential to it but it does not look like it's going to get that much better. you say sony is future oriented? how did the ps1 or ps2 evolve for the future. Slimmed down and got smaller. Well that does not help the games. They are ready to make another psp also. hmmm.

look at ps2 launch games.. and look at god of war 2. The potential is there.. it must be utilized. The graphics on both systems look pretty awesome.. they are getting more life like by day. Only time will tell if there is new technology will come out that will blow the cell out of the water,(though I highly doubt). Get the xbox720 in 2 years. Drop only 400 bucks if you're lucky. The development for the cell is in its infancy, the development for 360's technology is reaching its peak. My investment is looking better and better everyday.

Build on Cell Sony! Build on Cell!!!

Sony, I think are setting themselves up for the 4th generation. The more I read about CELL, the more I understand its potential. Sony in theory could use a derivation of the existing CELL processor in the 4th generation playstation. They could call it 'Embreyo' :)

13.1 - That's exactly what Sony, IBM, and Toshiba are planning.

Even Cell has limitations, and what they're trying to do is have a 36-core update to the first Cell BE within the next 4 or 5 years. It's supposed to be completely backwards compatible, but run at a faster clock-speed, have improved architecture, etc.

By then, Cell BE programmers will already have gotten their feet wet and be able to hit the ground running -> PS4 devs won't have to throw away their programming investments and start over like every other console generation. They'll have a solid foundation to work from. Even PS3 devs have a little bit of help since the SPEs borrow some instruction sets from the PS2 EE chip.

Yup go look each person is running a different animation. While they look the same they are no where near sync'd to each other...

Forget the characters on screen try and grasp the concept each of those are actually doing their own animation...

Hard to explain but its dang impressive..
