PS3 Firmware 2.70 Out Sometime This Month?

Psyonix Developers Psyonix-Corey and Psyonix-Jerad posted the following in the SARBPC forum in a thread about a PSN Sign-out Bug.

Psyonix-Corey wrote: "Sony mentioned a bug they fixed with the next system software update (2.7.0) that might resolve these issues, but we have to narrow it down and verify it's the same problem to be sure it's that and not something we need to fix on our end"

Psyonix-Jerad wrote: "IIRC it will drop later this month. And contain lots of fun new fixes. I'm excited about this one, lots of new stuff. :)

Though, I dont think I can mention any of them just yet."

The article has been edited, it now contains only 10 posts (it was 15 before) and the comment by Psyonix-Jerad has been removed along with all associated posts to do with his post but no reason has been given for the removal

That is such a great idea! I have a buddy that I can pass that on to...
I get frustrated about the lack of alert as well...I have notifications turned off because I have a lot of friends....and they always ruin it when I'm watching a bluray...lol. that envelope idea is the best thing to come out of this site.

one thing Sony does not get enough credit for is this is all out of their own pockets. They have built and are continuing to upgrade PSN at a loss to appease their user base.

This is one area that rarely gets mentioned on N4G when comparing PSN and XBL. MS initially had to spend a great deal to get XBL up and running but they probably broke even with in the 1st year or 2. Now it is a huge cash cow for them.

Any upgrades you get on XBL the consumer has more than paid for and deserve.

Any upgrades you get on PSN Sony pays for and is just a bonus for being a PS3 consumer.

All I want from Sony is private/cross chat while in game. It is cool to chat with a friend while playing different games or if you are online in the same game but don't want to deal with the general public.

A universal party system, I never thought it to be that big of a deal but it may make finding games with my buddy easier. Maybe at least have GG patch in a party system! Regardless I am very happy to see the improvements made thus far.

It's not so much customer support as necessity.

Sony need to beat out xbl as fast as possible to get the edge. If they chose nintendo's route instead of this one then they'd be dead.

Why are the 360 updates(with the exception of the NXE1 )so much smaller than the ps3s? Why cant they acess what we have or dont have,and update accordingly?being a student with a 5gb cap,I dont like it.5gb for research and gaming is fine. .but when I update ps3 firmware.. It hurts to download ,and I know its only a few mb thats actually all we need.

Microsoft gradually introduce parts of updates in the background with other updates, so for example - they will of included say the backend stuff for a future update in the NXE update.

7.6 - Yeah, it's the way the manufacturers treat the OS.
Microsoft's OS in the 360 (which is Windows) is modular and recieves smaller Patches as its Spring and Fall updates. But since Sony has a ton of security built into the PS3, they pretty much wipe the internal Flash Memory clean and install an entirely new OS every time there's an update.

It's just easier from a QA standpoint, though I understand why people wouldn't be happy with 100 MB updates. It only takes me 3 minutes to download and install usually, but not everyone is blessed with fast internet.

In my country,you pay . . . . .insane prices for bandwidth.my 5gb cap limit. . . .costs about $200 ,and its only a retarded 4mb/s ADSL line, school lol,my uni has an unlimited cap ,but they choose to block lotsa sites,Ive tried connecting to PSN and XBL,it logs in. . .and it blocks you from doing anything.even N4G is blocked.

I think someone will get in trouble... normally divulging those kind of information will goes against the NDA that normally developer sign with SONY. Even he didnt give out too much details, he still mention that it will be in a month or so and that its also exists. Which afaik SONY never officialy talk about 2.7 yet.

ye, its meant to be fixed in the FW update, although i dont think there is a party system, which would be nice.

Faster in-game XMB, faster trophy card loading, cross-game chat and improved interface (with maybe the clock, any new messages and number of online friends on the top right of the screen ? )

In-game music in everygame won't happen as long as MS hold the patent for it, it's upto devs to implement it, and most don't really want to do that as it takes away from the soundtrack of their game.

they have found a way to implement the music feature that doesn't violate the ms patent, but it is very slow... I believe thy are currently researching ways to speed it up without crashing games due to lack of memory.

Wonder what they will have in the FW before E3 then?!

I really wish they would include in-game music on every game, if they can have the browser working while a game is running in the background (as the rumoured list of features say) then surely they must be able to run music in the background!!

I think more people want ingame music in every game then to be able to run the browser ingame.
