PS3 UT3 Supports Keyboard, Mouse, SIXAXIS

Kotaku got their hands on Unreal Tournament 3 for the PLAYSTATION 3 this week at GDC, surprisingly enough, but only got to spend a few minutes with the demo before the expo hall shut down. The version of UT3 running on the show floor still had some work to be done, but it will still quite lovely to look at. Everything was all super-polygony and pretty-lighted and sexy-textured, showing off the Unreal Engine 3 goods and the PS3's poly-pushing prowess. The good news, as you've probably figured out by the title of this post, is that you can choose the stock SIXAXIS controller, with tilt-look, or go PC-style with a USB keyboard and mouse. Nice!

It doesn't. Mouse with always be better for aiming than a thumbstick. I'll be getting that spitfish mouse controller on PS3 for games like this, but til then KB&M support is great. I hope it sets a trend in console FPS's.

I wonder how many PS3 owners are going to take advantage of the Keyboard and mouse. I figure that more PC shooter fans who would buy the PC version because of the culture of this game all together. It is pretty cool to have the option. A lot of PC only gamers claim that mouse and key board is the best way to go but we will see Shadow Run launches. MUAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHA

5 - News to my fingers!!

I love shooters on my PC because of the keyboard and mouse use. Things can be done on the fly alot easier and quicker. Plus using the mouse is alot easier for targeting. Man, now I am going to have to buy that Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse that I have been looking at!

8 - 360 KB+M?

I wonder if the 360 version will support the same setup? I have been a big fan of the Unreal series since its inception, but felt a little put off by the console versions because of the frustrating controls. Joystick control might be okay for the slower paced Halo games, but the quicker UT games require pinpoint accuracy. I sincerely hope it is an option for us 'Box fans, as well. I also wonder if players can match up against each other across different consoles online...

I can't WAIT to dominate the "thumbstick controller" players who've been bragging that mouse/keyboard is no better!

I'm glad they're putting in this option, but i'll prolly still use the sixaxis. K&M is a lot more precise than a controller...but it really doesn't matter much in Unreal. I FREAKIN' LOVE UNREAL! A lot of it is auto-targeted though. It's probably the best shooter ever created.

Still, I'd use sixaxis instead because you have to keep picking up the mouse to turn around and stuff. Still, I love it.

how is this good news? mouse and keyboard users will wipe the floor with those who don't use keyboard and mouse so that will force them to use a keyboard and mouse or lose.. oh and I imagine how much fun it would be to play split screen with your friends.. everyone brings over a desk, a mouse and a keyboard and u all hook them up..

I agree mate, whenever I played FPS's on the PC in multiplayer I found it really difficult to aim as accurately and as quickly as the majority of hardcore PC gamers - I just didn't have the reflexes!

That's why I preferred playing console shooters such as Halo with a controller.

Just imagine it: hardcore PC gamers used to playing at unbelievable 2048 x 1536 resolutions sniping perfect head shots from miles away in mere milliseconds - us console gamers are doomed!

Hopefully we'll be given the option to choose whether people are allowed to use K+M when setting up a multiplayer game otherwise get used to seeing more and more "l33t" and "p4wned" style phrases as PC users wipe the floor ...

UT is a complex game that has many controls. Almost impossible for a controller to keep up with a keyboard and a mouse. Especially with all those double dashes and double jumps. I'm curious if the sixaxis will make these moves easier for a controller.

20 - It's not better with a Keyboard and a Mouse, it's just whatever you prefer that works best.

I've killed many while using a cintroller on my PC as well as my Xbox 360, it's just whatever your best on. that's all.

For me, a K&M are a hinderence and not a help.

I agree. I'd match the best PC gamers to the best console anyday. I'm not too worried anyways about what the most adept gamers are using. Most of my multiplayer will be restricted to my group of friends.

Im soooo excited, glad someone finally did it!!! Now I can get basically the PC version and console version rolled into one!!!!
