I don't understand Jeff Gerstmann.

He says VF5's fighting is "terrific" and "absolutely top-notch" but gives the gameplay a score of 8? And by giving both VF5 and Tekken scores of 8 for graphics, it leads me to believe that he does not have the capability of perceiving the obvious difference between the two games graphically. After all, Tekken 5 is simply a 1080p port of the arcade game, and the assets show that. And to top it off, the category where Tekken should be getting a higher score (Value) only got an 8 when he makes it a point in the review of what an incredible deal it is to get the game for 20 bucks.

Now I'm not getting either of these games, as I don't even have a PS3, but I recognize discrepancies between a given score and the written review when I see it.

VF5 is received around the world like a top hit, Tekken 5 the port isn't in that ranking.

Probably the reviewer is a big Tekken fan or so. And to say Tekken is the real fighter and VF is not... I've heard many statements that say it's the other way around.

Looking forward to test VF5 on my 360 and find out what it'll be

My opinion is that most new fighters feel dated. Not much has happened since the playstation 1 era. The graphics get shinier and they add two or three characters per iteration. I wish there were more fighting games like Bushido Blade 1 & 2, Kengo or Tobal. Some innovation would be nice.

Totally accurate. i bought VF5 just cause it was a new game on PS3 but it seriously lacking a lot of fun gaming. No online, no story (will i havent passed the arcade mode to see if theres a story at the end but it seem like theres none) the quest(dojo) mode is ok but theres nothing that makes me wanna play with all the people tekken does that ill play with the sorriest people just because i know there story is gonna be qorkey and real fin funny and besides me and my friends have a rule when u play ver. u have to pick random so its good to have well rounded skills.

The problem here, is that everything that VF5 suffers from, the DR port does worse.

No online? Same. No story? Same (heck, there aren't even endings for all the characters). The quest mode is shallow in comparison to VF5's.

Not to mention, VF5 should've gotten a better score in the first place, but as of late I haven't had any trust in gamespot.

I haven't played Takken 5, but from what i've heard, Virtua Fighter 5 is better than Takken 5, better graphics, and better gameplay. I think there's something wrong with GAMESPOT.com.

Gamespot has gone downhill over the past year. With all the crappy game news site that also rate games these days a good fair rating "free" game rating site is still up for grabs. Especially one that is not so blantantly one sided toward a genre or console.

The Gamespot guys are Tekken fans. It's not like they dislike VF but over the years they have always rated Tekken highly. They gave Tekken 3 a 9.9, Tekken 5 a 9.2, Tekken Tag Tournament a 9.6 etc. I disagree and think Tekken is pretty good but not nearly as accomplished as VF or Soul Calibur(from Namco also). But they are entitled to their opinion. Is is good to know reviewer biases when making purchasing decisions though.

but when i bought VF5 it was just to great. In a way it made it easier to get into with the tweaks and new character they added.

I'll give this a try as well but I doubt that a poslished port of an expansion can be better then a game that had some thought put into it and also made changes to make the overall experience better.

Maybe Tekken 6 but not TK5:DR but i'll hold final verdict until i play the game

...between both is that Tekken is the greatest arcade fun, and VF series is more like a Kung-Fu simulation. Soul Calibur series is definitely more refined than 'em but I think Mortal Kombat takes the crown both freshness wise and in feature-set as well.

has great characters and story, never liked virtua fighter. characters are boring ( who can dis a bear with a scarf lol.) maybe when 5 comes out on xbox i may be swayed however i still reckon i will hold tekken and DOA above it
