@The Hater. Both syphon filters are like the highest rated PSP games. Its sort of like splinter cell but less stealth and more action. Easily best game i played on PSP besides God of war

If they can make it for the PS3 and its as good as PSP version DAY ONE PURCHASE

Sony Bend first has to finish Resistance: Retribution. But this is a good sign that they are going to develop a PS3 game next. I remember reading that the creator of the Syphon Filter series was working in London Studios. I imagine that he is behind the secret "BBC reporter" game. If not it would be great if he returns to help out Sony bend.

Well i don't really remember the PS1 syphon filter and the PS2 one was trash. But the PSP ones were ace. Dark Mirror and Logans Shadow are sort of connected but you don't really need one to play the other

Whoa!!!

I loved the first 2, I really loved the control in that game. Part 2 was the best.

There is really not that many espionage games besides MG, splinter Cell....

This franchises has been in the shadows..

I've finished Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and I've played a little bit of Logan's Shadow and they both are awesome. A Ps3 Syphon Filter game would be HUGE!!

I have to agree with sonaris though, the PS2 Syphon Filter: Omega Strain was terrible. I always heard good things about the PS1 Syphon Filter games, I think there was 3 or 4 of them on the PS1. I was too busy playing Tony Hawk, Medal of Honor, Smack Down, Twisted Metal ect....

I don't think it's going to come out on X360, because SONY owned that studio. please correct me if im wrong.

5 - This game is only exclusive
Sony owns the IP and the studio. They want people who have experience with the high end gaming consoles. The ps3 and the 360. Ps2 knowledge is ok but if you haven't made a next gen game its a different story.

6 - Syphon Filter was Sony's flag ship 3rd person action adventure game on PS 1 era
for those younger gaming audience out there. It play sort of like James Bond'ish. I haven't touch the series since PS1, but u follow an elite agent by the name of Gabe Logan if I remember correctly

cmrbe - 322 days 5 hours ago
6.1 - Yep Gabe Logan
The Girl was an asian chick if i remeber correctly. I wonder why Sony never brought it to PS2 as it was a huge hit on the PS1.

Part 1 and 2 was really good but it kinda gone weird by part 3 imo.

6.2 - they actually DID
bring Syphon Filter to the PS2.

it was a game called Syphon Filter: Omega Strain, i believe, and it was one of the early titles that was supposed to help put Sony's new online service on the map.

unfortunately, Omega Strain sucked donkey balls, so the series went underground for a while.

it wasn't until Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, on the PSP reared it's head that the series came back to form with a vengeance. i still own the original Syphon Filter on the PSP, and what a great, if not terribly difficult game it was.

i haven't got to play Logan's Shadow yet, because i'm still beating Dark Mirror (my UMD broke, and i simply haven't gotten around to downloading a torrent for it), but i hear it rocks.

if SCE Bend are indeed going to start up work on a PS3 Syphon Filter (which is what i expected them to do eventually), and if they can maintain the quality they've shown in the PSP series, then Sony will have another potential great franchise to entice people to come to the PS3 side of the fence.

what people seem to ignore or underestimate, is that Sony has a rather STRONG stable of first and second party franchises that have loyal followings:

Gran Turismo
SOCOM
Syphon Filter
God of War
Ratchet and Clank
Jak and Daxter
Sly Cooper
Warhawk
Dark Cloud
Rogue Galaxy

etc. but the cool thing they've done this generation, is allow those developers to BRANCH out and create NEW franchises that have the potential to become classics:

Polyphony Digitals new project (hopefully Omega Boost PS3)
Team Ico's new projects
Resistance
inFamous
Incognito's new project (not Warhawk related)
White Knight Chronicles
Heavy Rain (i guarantee Sony buys Quantic Dreams after HR releases)
Little Big Planet
Motorstorm
Uncharted

etc. they excel at this sort of thing, but we are constantly hearing praise about Microsoft being a software company, when in the end, us gamers care about GAMING software. as nice as LIVE is, and the feature set it includes, without a bunch of cool exclusive titles that utilize such a system, it becomes worthless.

Sony has plenty of software, and plenty of strong franchises, both old and new. looking at their supposed "10 year life span" of the PS3, they have PLENTY of time to mine those new and old franchises, and push some units.

ultimately, it is us gamers that will benefit the most, as we'll see some absolutely AMAZING games. well, as long as the competition from Microsoft stays sharp, and the find a way to keep up with Sony's 25+ first and second party studios (MS only has about 6 or 7 these days, so they have their work cut out for them).

what's this possible x360 version?. SF is not only a Sony owned IP but Bends as i remeber is also owned by Sony.

Bend is part of Sony World Wide Studio, unlike Insomniac and Media Molecule which is a 2nd party developer. But again, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, and LittleBigPlanet are Sony IPs. So, they won't make it on the X360 either. But I dont understand what the problem is for Xbox owners. You will need a BluRay player for next gen anyways, just drop the fanboy attitude and get a PS3, that way u can play all the PS3 games, Xbox 360 games, and watch hi def BD movies. It's really not that expensive, 400 dollars. Just save up for a month or something. (well for me, 5 hrs of my salary..which will get worst, the state is cutting budget in healthcare and education. dumbest idea ever).

I really almost forgot about the Syphon Filter series. Sony's got so many franchises under their belt, it's hard to recall all of them. I remember playing a demo of one of the Syphon Filter games on the PS1 or PS2, but I never bought any of the games, however I did like the demo I played. I'd defiantly get a Syphon game if it came out on the PS3 though because I really want more games with stealth elements involved.

11.2 - Lord Dhampire, stop being a troll.
the first 2 Syphon Filters were excellent.

Syphon Filter 3, and Syphon Filter: Omega Strain were crap.

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, and Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow, were excellent.

from where i stand, that's 4 excellent games, and two crap games. that's better than a LOT of series out there now (look at the RE series: first 4 games good. the spin-off's were crap, and part 5 is simply a retread of part 4, warts and all).

not every series has impeccable quality all the way through (even Metal Gear Solid has MGS2 as it's low point. Final Fantasy has II, VIII, and X-2).

SCE Bend has turned the Syphon Filter series around in the same way Guerrilla Games turned the Killzone series around (contrary to popular belief, starting with Killzone: Liberation, not the hype exceeding Killzone 2).

you seem like the type of person that wanted to see Free Radical BURN after HAZE, despite the fact that their track record included some of the BEST FPS games in console history (Goldeneye 64, Perfect Dark 64, Timesplitters, etc). even Star Wars Battlefront 3, developed by Free Radical, looked rather excellent, and a return to form for the devs.

everyone has their bad game. even Blizzard, Bioware, Bungie (Oni, anyone?), etc. it's inevitable.

stop being so cynical. you may actually find yourself ENJOYING this hobby you supposedly love called "gaming."

cool i played dark mirror and loved. but my only gripe was htat the only stealthy gun was the silenced pistol and any other gun would change the stealth into a gunfight.

15 - I love syphon filter !
gabe Logan is tuffer than jack bauer!
his favorite weapon is a taser !
syphon filter perfected lock - on on the ps1
it was the first game that gave you the BIZ sub-machine gun.
Sniping was dam good.

I didn't like omega strain because it was very hard & the story threw me for a loop.
I play dark mirror everyday on my psp & soon to have logans shadow.
Syphon filters controls on the ps1 was what we all wished tomb raider would have but never did.
Tomb raider was close but no cigar.

I was born in 1979.

Well, this is a perfect opportunity to utilize Killzone 2 engine. Yes it will take some work to make it into 3rd person shooter engine, and the graphics might suffer, if no extra work will be put into the engine first, but it's worth the cost, a great engine for a great game.
