Warhawk to Become Multiplayer-Only?

Since PlayStation 3 was originally unveiled at E3 2005, we've been lead to believe that Sony's been leading a crusade to resurrect Warhawk on the platform. It was also shown at Tokyo Game Show last fall, though we've heard nothing about the game since.

Apparently, that's about to change; 1up's own Sam Kennedy's off to Salt Lake City to check out the game's progress, and it may be headed in a whole new direction: a multiplayer-only downloadable available via the PlayStation Network.

yea it would be abot 4-9gb. i reall wanted to play this game, i was seriously considering in buying this game, it looked fun and the graphics were great. but now i will hve to wait for loong for it, unless they super compress it then we can extract it somehow...i smell a firmware update.

LOL after sony hyped this game up since last year its multi player only now,i wonder why is it because the cell cpu is just so dam complicated to programme for,anyway at the end of the day this is just unacceptable and half baked games are not gonna sell this console,it seems to me this DEV has bitten off more than it can chew and any excuses are not going to wash with me and the gaming public,sony drones excluded as they dont count as true gamers END OF STORY

i don't know what to think about this. it can go either way.

it might be a good because it will be cheap and give us a new way to look at online games.

it might suck @ss because only being able to play online might affect the way some people might want to play. it also brings into question how long and how much depth can the game has.

i want the game but i'm not sure what to make of this

11 - This is an old rumor

Assuming that this rumor is true, I'm disappointed...but I'm also starting to see the positive aspects of this decision. First off, it should NOT be a downloadable title, at least initially. Better for them to release a starting point with levels, vehicles, weapons, etc, and then continue to follow that up with future downloadable/retail content.

While I'm sure Bungie spent millions of dollars building the campaign mode for Halo 2, no one really cared for it. They all went for the multiplayer modes and to this day I still haven't gotten past the first two hours of the Campaign. I just end up playing SWAT and CTF every day. Me and my friends actually wonder why they don't just release Halo 3 as a pure multiplayer game considering that's the only thing we liked in the first place.

It's never been done before, and it might actually work IF they implement it correctly. The problem with this game is scope. Having 32~40 players at once is nice, but I was expecting battles with hundreds of enemies at once, huge dropships, etc. I'm starting to wonder if they're mixing AI enemies/allies into the multiplayer battles, a la F1 Championship (though on a much grander scale)...

Having the full game (the game that was initially plan) release is better. You get the multiplayer and the single player campaign. If they release it for free I will agree with you, but if they just cut the single player...

So you played halo but only multiplayer ? Fine, but you cannot assume that just because you didn't finish the campaign, nobody care about single player, you are wrong, you are just gonna start another fanboy flamming war...

Wow DJ you actually think bungie will make it Multi only! That is some really really bad brainstorming you and your friends are doing. Bungie left a lot to be desired in halo2 and people were mad about the ending .. to make halo 3 multi only would just destroy halo's fanbase. I know that's what some people might want ex:Sony fanboy's and maybe the murderous :Nintendo fanboys.. So just stop trying ok.. :) .. Maybe they can make it like counter strike on xbox.. You crack me up Dj. You always spin everything to a positive. I bet you would say something positive about a family dying in a burning house.

This game has been in development for over 2 years and was supposed to be one of the big guns for Sony. And now they're talking about multiplayer only and a direct download? Sounds like they had a lot of problems and decided to downgrade it. Almost like a big budget film that goes direct to video.

The Halo story might be to adult for you. It's definatly not a story for the kiddies. So that's why you only play the multiplayer. It's kinda like the Matrix Trilogy. The kids like the shooting and fighting, while the adults like the story. I myself LOVE the story and cant wait to finish the fight. In fact I will beat the campaign before I touch the multiplayer.
