1 - Definitely good news
I planned on getting the PS3 version, mostly due to the d-pad, and I am also glad the install is optional for those that want it. Here is hoping the online is buttery smooth like like HD Remix (even though its not the same GGPO server but like I said, here is hoping).

1.4 - PS3 version for me...
Not flaming but I was going to get the 360 version so I could play my buddy who's in the Military but after playing Gears 2 and seeing how the dpad on 360 can't even handle that, I'm going for the PS3 version.
Install option? Sweet. I'll definitely take that option as I have over 100 gigs of free space in my PS3.

what is the big with installs...I love it when I can install a game is 5 minutes of your time really that serious for people to complain. Why wouldn't any install any game that they can if it improves performance, just looking for something to complain about if you ask me..grow up people. As far as street fighter goes its obvious how can you play street fighter on a 360 with that sorry excuse for a dpad. PS3 is the superior version because you can actually play smoothly...I am a big street fighter fan but playing with analog is a nightmare imo. PS3 version FTW.

I don't mean to sound negative, but does a couple of seconds really matter in loading times? I started playing disc based games on the Sega CD about 15 years ago and load times were worse then than they are now on about ANY PS3 game so a few extra seconds doesn't bother me. Sure, an optional installation to the HDD is a good thing, but it shouldn't be a forced issue. My PS3's factory 60GB HDD is almost full just because of the PSN games and few mandatory installs that I've had to go through. As most people here, I'll be getting the PS3 version of the game simply because the D-pad design of the PS3's DualShock 3 is tried and true and the 360 controller's just doesn't work for fighting games.

So really the "benefits" of Blu-Ray are once again put to question here, because you need to install the game to see any real benefit on the PS3 vs. the 360 version's DVD load times.

yepp.. blu-ray does have alot of space.. but reading speed isn't at it's best. but that's all a matter of creativity.
Naughtydog managed to fit Uncharted on a 25GB bluray disc,
without any downloads, they managed to create a seemless game with ZERO loading screens.
But nonetheless. The time loadings shouldn't have that biggofa difference without install aswell.. probably 2-3 seconds.
But if you're looking for fast loading. i say download.
you can always remove the save after.

Oh yes, I agree on the storage benefit, and being able to fit more high-quality assets on the game disc when compared to a rival format. However, the loading times of the PS3's slow Blu-Ray drive really don't do the format any justice.

1x Blu Ray speed is 36Mbps.
1x DVD speed is 1.3Mbps.
PS3 blu ray drive is 2x, so 74Mbps.
You need a 56x DVD drive to match a 2x blu ray drive in speed.

2.4 - blu-ray is a big benefit
but they don't use it if the game has to go to 360. It's the truth. This is why Sony exclusives are light years better than any multiplat game. Blu-ray does make a difference. But Capcom will never utilize blu-ray to the fullest when doing so would mean a gimped 360 version.
But at least they're getting better at making a multiplat on PS3 and are no longer forcing us to do an install (hopefully a trend that continues).

Price you pay for early adoption (2x speeds).
Although many people make the same mistake I did, DVD9s (majority of 360 games) run one layer at 12X and the other at 8X, DVDs also dont read at a constant rate like BR, essentually the figures you see for DVD read speeds are at their max, when in real life use they fluctuate quite a bit.
Yes BR reads slower but with decent streaming and caching to the HDD installs shouldnt be required, they generally only happen now on multiplat games, which I imagine is because devs dont want to invest more time and effort in one system and not the other. But obviously I dont know the ins and outs of each case.
Each format has it's pro's and con's.
@ Massahud, What? Totally incorrect.
DVD 12X =
12× 126.60 (Mibit/s) or 16.20 (MB/s)
BD 2X =
2× 72 (Mibit/s) or 9 (MB/s)

2.6 - Sorry
I messed up with the DVD reading, I thought it was Mbps and not MBps.
So the reading speed of single layer DVDs is faster on the 360, but since the 360 reads dual layer discs at 8x the difference is not so big, 10.80MBps max vs 9MBps constant.

There might also be a possibility that lower res textures are put on the 360 version and not as much data is being streamed off the disc. I only heard of 1 game that has this though, I think a game by ID Software, but can't remember the name.

You can quote facts and figures all you like and whatever way you like to make it seem like the PS3's BR drive is faster than the 360's DVD-ROM drive, but at the end of the day if there's a difference in loading times between the two consoles, it's usually in favour of the 360.
I'm not bashing the PS3 here at ALL, I'm just pointing out that sometimes practice is a little different than theory. I really don't see why people get so beat up over a couple of seconds here or there, as your drive ages, you'll probably end up with slightly slower loading times anyway.

Not sure what you're on about in regards to the load time.
The guy explicitly says the load times for the 360 and PS3 are the same and that you can shave off a sliver by installing the game and even if you do have to install it for there to be an identical load time, the guy said a sliver of time shaved off so there isn't any point giving thought to load times here.

9 - Ah Gamespot.
"nobody noticed any differences between PS3 and Xbox load times (this was explicitly measured by Gamespot during TGS, since they couldn't find any graphical differences to complain about."
Yeah, I noticed over the last two years it often seemed like Gamespot was going out of their way to find things about the PS3 to complain about. Maybe it has something to do with their parent company having exclusive deals with Microsoft but it's nice to hear that other people have noticed too. It's not just in my head.
I was banned from the Gamespot forums after reporting 360 trolls to the mods. 4 posters on a particular PS3 news article where just there stirring flame wars up. When I took a stand against their obvious trolling the mods banned me for "excessive" reporting. It was 4 posts. I'll never get over their obvious bias in their news and forums. They don't even try to hide it anymore.

not a big deal. i did the optional install for unreal tournament 3, valkyria chronicles, soul calibur 4 as well.
but its sony's fault. the player isnt reading slower. no one knows how to use it. the blu ray player transfers about 34mb of data per spin while the dvd transfers 10mb.
the studios that have done excellent work on the ps3 with scale, large amounts of enemies, load times etc.. should be on hand for third party developers.
sony is still not reaching out to developers to assist. then again they threw /6 to the lions with socom. /6 should have had naughty dog or insomniac on hand for advice and consulting.
sony should also ask its best studios to work together on a third party engine to make things easier.
its not that unreal engine is better on 360. its that its simpler and easy to create on that foundation for some.
an example is valve using their own source engine instead of unreal engine. had they used unreal you wouldnt be able to fit as many enemies on screen and would probably end up with framerate issues.

13 - I am a hardcore SF fan
But I had the same dilemma as some other gamers with SF4 vs. Killzone2. since I am so broke right now, which one do i get first? The godfather of fighting games is back, but Killzone 2 points to the future. Also, since SF4 took out both parrying and air blocking, that is a huge mark against it, cuz now the game once again belongs to the projectile spammers. That's why King of Fighters series has taken over as the best 2d style fighter because in that game, projectile spammers are at a disadvantage.

Couldn't agree more. It's why SF3 in my opinion is the best fighter ever created. Parrying by far was probably the 1 best thing they implemented into the game? Ryu spamming hadokens? No problem parry. Are they shoryukening you on every wake up jump in? Parry. Still looking forward to the new street fighter though.
But i think i'll be picking up Killzone 2 first.

15.1 - ONLY A FOOL WHOSE NEW TO FIGHTING GAMES WON'T SEE SUPERIORITY IN THE PS3 CONTROLLER..
While i completly agree with you that the 360`s d-pad is useless (for everthing, not just fighting games in my opinion)The ps pads were always rubbish for them aswell.when it comes to moves that require more complicated sequences than a simple qurter circle movement, moves like guiles super flash kick in the SFA games or any snk characters big moves the ps2 pad was a pain in the *ss.I bought 2 saturn control pad converters for my ps2 and never looked back.My freinds always blamed the sticks or pads for my constant winning and that is proof enough that the ps pads ,while better than the 360`s for fighting games, is not really ideal for SF/2-d fighting games either.I can pull off any move with ease on a stick or a sega saturn styled fighting pad...8-way d pad instead of ps`s 4-way, six face buttons like on the arcade sticks button layout....perfect for chaining combos into specials.
fighting games work best when you dont have to use shoulder buttons period. I have a hori stick for my 360 and i`ll be buying the sf4 pads AND sticks for BOTH versions (which i have already pre ordered and paid for too!), so ill be whuppin all of your *sses! lol.

I agree with you realness. While the Ps dpads are better they are no Nintendo/Sega dpads (the best ever created period). It's hard doing shoryukens consistantly because you have to hold both the down and forward button at the same time to get diagonally down forward. Not to mention my thumbs take a beating after extended play.

You div.
"Dev kit units are known to be a bit trickier than retail, and things occasionally have odd glitches there, but regardless of any she-said, he-said nonsense, when everything is working right, nobody noticed any differences between PS3 and Xbox load times (this was explicitly measured by Gamespot during TGS, since they couldn't find any graphical differences to complain about, but they didn't see load time differences either"
there is no difference between them, stop being a moron.

Well that is obvious how can you play street fighter on a 360 with that sorry excuse for a dpad. PS3 is the superior version because you can actually play smoothly...I am a big street fighter fan but playing with analog is a nightmare imo. PS3 version FTW.

I'm surprised Jason 360 is still the fanboy he is after being here for so long. Lol. You think he would give up being ignorant.

I beg the question as to why degenerate no brain individuals such as your self exist in our world, you and everyone here knows that the playstation 3 you supposedbly purchased is under your table, yeah okay buddy, the ps3 is a magnificent system , and its collecting dust under your table, right, you are pathetic and i see right through your lies, x-box in no way is superiour to ps3, it's impossible thats like saying ps2 destroys x-box 1, 360 is dated technology, and then a simpleton like you is gonna say well 360 has more ram , buddy ps3 has split ram between video and something else, so do us a favour and sign out, thank you
