Oblivion PR: SIXAXIS not an option for Oblivion, Rumble Better
42
Peter Hines of Bethesda has stated that in Oblivion, SIXAXIS is not neccessary and personally he would've rather seen rumble implimented into the controller.
quote:
IGN: Did you ever think about including SIXAXIS motion support?
Pete Hines: We didn't think about doing anything with the SIXAXIS stuff. We just wanted to make sure it played well and doing something new with the SIXAXIS just wasn't even necessary. Obviously if we ever have a game that would work well with the SIXAXIS then we would consider using it… but that wasn't an option for Oblivion.
IGN: What do you think about SIXAXIS?
Pete Hines: I think that its value depends upon the game. It didn't make sense on Oblivion but I'm sure there are some games it does make sense on. To be honest I would rather have the rumble instead of the SIXAXIS motion stuff.

1 - Rumble is 'Immersive'
Aka Immersion! Ask anyone they will say they would rather prefer rumble however I personally think the PS3 pad would have been a pretty darn good pad if it had rumble as well as its motion sensors as the Wiimote can do both.

Rumble baby! Not sure how i feel about Sixaxis, tried it a little, gets boring real quick...
Rumble does put you into the the game more than if there isn't any. It's funny how you don't truly realize it until you try the same game experiences without it, and there this disconnect feeling to the game, rumble is definitly needed.
i think someone should make a rumble hat...yes a hat...LOL imagine the head trauma!!
sorry just cracking myself up.

Damm Mart where do you "digg" this stuff up? -(oh, IGN huh)....Well at least PS3 guys are getting a great game....its too bad Peter Hines made those comments, but hey they asked him the question and he was honest....it isn't anything particularly shocking but still it stings a little coming from a good dev like him.

4 - .........ITS THE TRUTH REALLY
Rumble is awesome. Sixaxis hasnt been proven useful the least to say. Maybe the will come up with something awesome for sixaxis. Im really curious to see what "Lair" does with it. The Dev had some really nice things to say about Sixaxis. Sony needs to get their head on right and go for the win with Sixaxis+Rumble now that would be true Next-Gen for the legendary Dual Shock Control. Droppin Rumble adding Sixaxis was 1 step forward and 1 step back.

6 - Good grief...
Here we go, Mart has thrown us flame bait, and im almost certain his bait will have worked. We'll see though.
I personally, to tell you the truth, do miss rumble. Its a nice feature, and its a pity its missing. It was kind of satisfying to feel the bones in your wrist shake when a explosion went off near you. But I dont mind that the PS3 doesnt have rumble in its official controllers. Why ? Because a unofficial controller with built-in rumble is on its way. Whether developers choose to program their games to output rumble is totally another story, but atleast there are controllers on the way.
Hell, the motion sensing isnt even all bad-
its like having 6 (I think. Could be 8) extra buttons ! (Eg: Could be used to peek around walls, bring up maps, stats mid-game, etc)
Infact, if used properly, motion sensing could be far better than rumble. Its only a matter of time before a developer figures out a genious idea of how to take advantage of motion sensing.

8 - I wouldn't call sixaxis a failure
Some of you hail rumble as if it's really that important. Honestly, story, graphics, and gameplay are far more immersing than force feedback. Granted, having it would be cool, but not having hasn't seemed important at all since i got my PS3. Motion sensing isn't all that great, either, but I think it could prove to be a worthy substitute for force feedback. Maybe that's just me, though. I am used to playing with a keyboard and mouse.

Its nicer to have rumble than not have it, but it is not something that makes me think
"Oh noes ! z0mg. t3h rumbl3 i5 7eh gonez0rd - w3 r te[-] d0omz0rd !"
If rumble is implemented 'Yay !', if not, 'Oh well'.
Its not a killer feature.

8.2 - WELL YOU ARE RIGHT !!!
I been gaming with rumble since Sony first introduced in back in the late 90's on the PS1. So for them to have it for so long then suddenly rip it out is a little different. But you are also right in saying there is alot of people that dont think it will drastically change their gaming experience. If enough people complained Sony would or will have to come up with a fix. Appearently their isnt enough of a stink about it.
* Especially since most of the complaining is done by Xbox fanboys and people that dont even own a PS3 nor have tried Sixaxis* (which I do find hilarious)
But there is a large amount of gamers that think like you and thats a good thing. Give me next Gen graphics, great controls, engrossing story lines and more than 5 hours of single player game play and you can keep the rumble. I can honestly make the statement.

OLD NEWS. This was in their interview that was posted last week. Of course rumble is a good thing. But sixaxis should never have been put in competition with rumble. They better bring it back.
LOL was amusing that he said he move to xbox and said he just got used to rumble and liked it in games, as if playstation never had rumble and i was a microsoft idea! ha! Playstation1 had it.

They Didn't buy Immersion. Immersion own the patent to rumble in controllers (of sorts - as rumble can be done in other ways...) - and only in the US might I add with your crazy patent laws....and so Microsoft paid them some money, whereas Sony didn't want to pay up.

12 - It is not about 360
It is about sony lying to their fans. Almost everyone on this site was a sony fan at one point. Their arrogance just drove some people away and made them haters. Now the PS3 is going to be a very good gaming machine and so will the 360. But that will only be seen when the consoles are in their third year of being released. Some people hate MS for windows problems. It is all the same. People have their opinions. I will not hate on sixaxis, it is something new. I will just wait and see. I really say just get what system you want and let go of the hate. MS and Sony will be here for the next 5 - 10 years, the games will be here also. and 10 years is a long time kids grow into adults in that time. So enjoy what you have and just stop the BS. It really means nothing in the end

13 - Rumble. Really?
This debate is one of vibration over movement. True interaction involves movement over 360 degrees, not moving rapidly to and fro. There is much more scope with the Sixaxis. Rumble is just rumble, I can live without it.

Don't agree.
Rumble is like a dissatisfier. If it's there you won't notice (better said: you take it for granted. It's normal it's there), but if it's gone you miss it period.
Anyone can say they don't but that's utterly bullsh!t. Go in any shooter, and you know when you get hit when the controller activates the rumble. Otherwise you only see that on screen. Go race a racegame and you feel the crash, you feel if you drive over different surfaces, get the MS force feedback wheel and you get the real experience.
They just had to include the motion sensing as a gimmick because without rumble and anything else people would have laughed right in their face. So they included it. But it's not as integrated as the WiiMote.
It's like the MS sidewinder for PC from 5 years back. Which people played for 5 minutes and saw it as a gimmick. Which the Sixaxis will be also. A gimmick, nothing more. Fun to have, but you won't miss it when it's not there. Intense gaming you don't want to swing all around the room. That's fungaming like the Wii with beer and friends. Real gaming starts with rumble, no discussion about it

Yeah, having both would be sweet. But having SixAxis capability in Oblivion and do what? Peek from corners? Oblivion is not a shooter so, it was really unnecessary.
Yet Six Axis can be interesting when creative developers get to use it (like Kojima).
But yeah, I can't give up on rumble either, and force feedback. Those two are important to me too.

19.3 - The reason that the pc/360 version took longer
Is that when creating those versions Bethaside had to create a hole new engine for Oblivion and when they did the PS3 version all they had to do was port the already created engine to the new console and while porting they came across some upgrades they could ad to the new verion like new shader engine and upgraded textures, and from what I understand the 360/pc version are gonna get a patch that will make the 360 and pc version indistinguisable from the PS3 version, but I don't know the whole story behind thatso take this comment with a grain of salt but from my understanding thats what happend.

21.1 - Enforcer....
I'll take Bethesda's word fo it, that they indeed "optimized" the game for PS3, and that some of those "optimizations" can't be done on the 360, but CAN YOU NOT CONSIDER the POSSIBILITY for 1 second that Bethesda has to "add a lil hype" because its essentially a "old game" being fixed up for the PS3, don't you think he wants to create some excitement for a game thats already been out for a year instead of just saying hey we "ported" Oblivion over to the PS3? Also...Oblivion looked sweet on 360 but quite frankly there are other games that looked better, so if it wasn't the best looking game, that indicates there was room for improvement....but lets just say your logic in this situation is correct, then when a Epic dev says Gears cannot be done on the PS3 we have to assume that the PS3 can't do things the 360 does -hmmm, same logic....is it true?
-No the TRUTH is that Oblivion could be "polished" and look just as good or better if Bethesda wanted to, and Gears will definitely need alot of work plus some(cough) extra RAM to get that puppy to look that good on PS3 -lol, I'm kidding the point is it CAN BE DONE, just differently, but seriously why should Bethesda bother with all the extra time and money when its not going to make 360 owners who didn't like it a year ago or those who already own it, say "WOW it looks a little better, NOW I have to go buy this game" and those who already own it are certainly not going to buy it again for a few "enhancements." -Bro, its a great game, but its old news for 360 owners, the dev's need to get PS3 fans excited, its like a car salesman, he doesn't need to offer the guy who brought a new 2006 Explorer last year in 2006 anything, he made the sale already-his work is done, as long as he served the customer well and hopefully the car runs great for __ yrs, then the guy might decide to comeback when he's interested in getting a new car, but in 2007 he's going to need to offer a few MORE INCENTIVES to sell that same 2006 model Explorer to a different "potential" customer -since basicly the car is last years model and the customer knows it.

your just like DJ to me!! when they say there's things that's exclusive to the PS3, how do you know there not talking about the way they use the HDD to cache the game or other things like that.plus maybe there's things they did on the PS3 version graphically that just CANT be patched!! but if they were doing both versions at the same time it would have been done!!guys like you an DJ really get on my nerve when you try an claim the PS3 superior when the proof is in the pudding, the 360 is BETTER RIGHT NOW!!
now on to rumble vs sixaxis!! I think it would have been great if it had both but if I had to choose between the 2 I would pick rumble, because after playing the Wii, I get tried of all that moving around!! I just wanna sit there an relax an play video games!!

Why is everyone giving sixaxis such a hard time? Everyone knows why Sony dont have rumble and it has nothing to do with motion detection. Its not like they had to have one or the other and they made the wrong choice. If they'd actually paid the extra to Immersion half of you would probably be complaining, "I dont see why I should have to pay so much for rumble and Blu-Ray." If you feel so bad about it, punch a lawyer.
