Virtua Fighter Outsold By D.O.A

Oh Friday, we reported that Japan was exactly kookoo for Virtua Fighter 5. To put things into perspective, Japanese game blog Ore Teki Game Sokuhou @ Katana points out the following:

* February 8th, 2007
* 600,000 PS3s
* Virtua Fighter 5 Copies Sold: 30,000

* December 29th, 2005
* 80,000 Xbox 360s
* Dead or Alive 4 Copies Sold: 60,000

Not exactly a system seller. (That, dear readers, should be the upcoming Gundam Musou!)

That's not really surprising. I don't think VF5 is a system seller. Japanese gamers just spend their time on the arcade version. They built their chars etc, so i doubt VF5's sales will go very high.

The 4th episode has sold like 500000 copies. Considering the PS2 install base in japan, that's somewhat weak.

Maybe they just want to watch movies. I thought the japanese loved VF. I'm not a fighting game fan, but the game looks cool. I'll waste the bandwidth on a DL demo and that's it. With the PS3 instlled based that high in Japan this is looking bad. After Sony turned it's back on the Japanese gamers with their motorstorm version not having online ,they need to do something for them.

is because D.O.A has Master Cheif (Halo) and Ryu (Ninja Gaiden) as characters.

Go look at both games and see which one looks better. (Dont waste your time now), you know Virtua Fighter 5 looks way better. (PS3 vs. 360)
And the PS3's Virtua Fighter 5 beats 360's DOA in graphics. Like it or not, 360 is getting a port of a PS3 game. So dont go twisting facts. I dont care if DOA out sells VF5. And just to tell you, thats japan's sells. When it comes down here, ill do alot better then DOA sells.

What do you think about all that McFly? I mean Day’am! Just look at the console/game ratio. 360 gamers eat games up left and right. I’m thinking people are buying PS3 for a cheap blu-ray player only. This report can’t look good to any game developer planning to develop for the PS3. They look at sh*t like this before investing millions of dollars to develop a game.

Well maybe the reason is that it was only released thus far in Japan and DOA 4 was launched in the US and Japan Communities. This is about the most insane article yet. Second rate website that this was pulled from as well.

And for it to sell half of what DOA 4 has, with it only being released in Japan, it's pretty fair to say that it will out do DOA 4 when it hits the states. You won't see the numbers for it then and this story will be irrelevant. For DOA 4 to only sell 60,000 copies combined for both territories isn't all that to be proud of.

It doesn't prove anything.

is that one game has been out longer than the other.doa has sold a million,but it took awhile to do it.why does vf5 sales matter to you?

360 was also the ONLY next gen system and doa4 the ONLY next gen(in graphics anyway)fighter.

Due to the release on Xbox 360 it probably will save it's ass. The point is, developer interest. How much money can a developer make for games on a particular console brand if they have to invest millions to develop a next gen game? Opinions are immunity to being told your wrong. I'm sorry but DOA was a mediocre game at best, great graphics but the same damn thing over and over again. Don't know about Virtua Fighter 5 yet, but here is why 360 sold so many copies of that game. It was within the launch window and there was not much else to play. Oh yay we could play Call of Duty 2, the crappiest Madden game they ever shoved out for a system, glad 360 got that one first, 07 is much better. If PS3 only had 3 games to play and VF5 was released around launch then hell yeah everyone would sntach that up. I suggest to the informant of this article that they do their research and you will see the more games to play the less likely you will be to go after that one title with just beautiful graphics.

PS3 owners are not buying games. Ppl claim that the 360 lauch was bad but the ration was 4 games per console. Now it's 5 per console. 5 x 10 million = 50 million games sold. These are the numbers dev look for. You Sony die hards need to worry about this. If Halo 3 launched in Feb it will make a killing. Same for MGS4. i think the point you're missing is that there aren't any good games out yet for ps3...maybe three. by the end of next month i know at least six or seven titles that will be flying off the shelves...VF, Motorstorm, Oblivion, Fear, Splinter Cell, Godfather, Tekken.

In Japanese consumers' minds, 360 is nothing but a games machine, the only charm the system has is with games, which by the way are basically not upto standards...not even LOST PLANET and BLUE DRAGON that sold under 100,000 each. When xbox was launched in Japan, DOA-3 sold 260,000+ xboxes on the day it was released(I think a launch title) well VF4 didn't do anything substantial on PS2 because it was among 'many' other great games. So DOA-4 doesn't even start to reach the impact of DOA-3 in the last generation...while VF-5 is being treated the same,

because,

...with PS3, Japanese consumers have a system to play the latest PS2 games + PC like functions + online downloadable games(and I mean games like gran turismo...not pathetic XBLA-Japan titles) + HD-movies(and I mean 'by default' and in true HD) and then whole new PS3 titles...so the system's charm is wide above 360's. Software sales will gradually be growing. PS3's comparison time hasn't even started yet...right now even the 7 years old PS2 is kicking 360-aR$e !!! (check out god of war 2 videos and see for yourself if 360 has anything like that yet !)

for me it's the other way around. i have over forty games for my 360 and i only like two or three...GOW, Dead Rising. besides those two there's nothing i think i would loose sleep over if i couldn't play them. i get the most outta my 360 with its online service. it cost but its worth it........for now

23 - DOA4 has no arcade machine

I think you all forgot about that. VF5 has an arcade machine and Japanese players build up their characters on it and haved been doing so for the past year. Thus, they would stick to playing in the arcades than playing it on the PS3 since they can't transfer those player profiles. DOA4, however, DOES NOT have an arcade component. It was made and released for the 360 console only. DOA3 was the same way for the XBox. That ladies and gentlmen is the only reason that VF5 for the PS3 is off to a slow start in Japan. Had VF5 been made only for PS3 and not arcade primarily, the sales of it would have been at least six figures by now.
