Japan Virtua Fighter 5 Selling Slow

Early reports are that Virtua Fighter 5 isn't exactly flying off store shelves. AsoBitCity in Akihabara had a hands-on for customers that was so slow, a Sega employee apparently killed time by playing the title alone. And why should it be a hit? Sure, VF hasn't really matter to most Western gamers since, oh, 1997, but the game has a huge following in Japan.

1 - The only reason it is selling slow

is that Japan is Nintendo crazy. I wouldn't call Virtu Fighter a system seller as they really want to play it in the arcade setting in Japan. In the US where arcades a few and far between it will sell better.

Its gunna get old soon though. Me personally im waiting for Tekken BABY... "THE KING OF IRON FIST TOURNAMENT" Exclusive to a PS3 GRILL NEAR YOU ....lol.. Ohhh My PS3 Grill will be cooking this summer alright. prolli not VF5 though. I didnt see the big fuss about the prior installments. The game still feels stiff to me compared to Tekken and Soul Calibur.

10 - Probably because...

...they're waiting for the 360 version of VF5. Fighting games are fun, but I think the lack of online reduces the replayability. The ability to compete in tournaments and against the best the world has to offer is a big plus IMO. This is why Virtua Tennis 3 will also not sell well for the PS3. But with Sony's free online service, I guess you can't complain...

AFAIK the developpers said during an interview that they didn't want (and never would) an online mode for VF games because of lag issues.

So i doubt they'll make one for the 360 version. But who knows, they can change their mind too.

the waiting for the 360 version was a joke. Obviously the 360 has an uphill climb in Japan. I've lived there for over 2 years and know that Japanese are notoriously biased towards Japanese products. With the exception of European cars, any product not Japanese is inferior to them. I think the 360 is doing better than a lot of people thought.

And the 360 version will have online functions. All 360 games have to use Live in some way so just like Virtua Tennis 3, it's going to be online.

17 - Virtua fighter games are crap......

I never understood the high ratings critics gave virtua fighter games anyway. I consider myself somewhat of a fighting game expert, and I like and play a whole slew of different types of fighting games. One thing is certain, I have never played a 3d fighting game that even comes close to a 2d one in pure skill and fun. (kof, SF, etc) Soul Calibour games are great, tekken games are pretty good, if a little cheap but I never got into virtua fighter. Its just not that good.

I have read a couple sources that said there will be no online fighting for this game via PSN or XBL. Live may be used for stat tracking or arcade time trial but im sure thats nothing PSN cant do (for free) sorry had to take that cheap jab. lol But dont get your hopes up on online brawling. Not with VF5 anyways. And guys its not like the PS3 version is doing bad Its gotten almost perfect scores across the boards. A whole lotta 9's and 9.5's. I personally dont know why. The first VF's felt soo stiff to me. But hey thats just me.

according to my friend josh in japan www.myspace/vf5 "here in japan we've been playing the arcade we have built up our characters we play online at the arcade but there are lots of people here we don't want to take it home just now but i did pick one up to practice with my friends, also we rather play fighting games at the arcade then at home lot more fun when a crowd is chearing. and no we are not waiting for the xbox version no one really likes the xbox down here sorry guy."

This is a surprise since VF has always sold well in Japan. This is thee 3d fighter to get and the only reason why I was going to buy a ps3. Luckily Sega made a smart move to release this on both consoles. I also heard that the developers said that VF will not have any online action but I hope Microsoft has something to say about this.

I guess you never experienced the magic that is xbox live. You get to fight the best players in the world in xbox live tournaments. Check your rankings in leaderboards. It brings alot more competition than just playing your cousins or your lil sister.

I'm aware that people play fighters online...I was just dissing them for doing so. It's just plain boring. Wouldn't you rather be sitting NEXT to your friend when you beat him? That way, if he gets pissed, you can punch him in the face too.

xbox live is not magic! It's expensive, overrated, nowhere CLOSE to xfire, and really only good for demos. You can check your rankings on the PS Network too! Is it better, no, but it does the same crap! Competition's great, for a little bit...when you actually see the other players.

I don't WANT online play in a fighter. I want online play in Splinter Cell, Army of Two, and Gears (campaign)!!!

FKN Unbelievable - You're the only person I know to buy the DOA Fighters Stick. It's really great, but not 60 bucks great. No fighting stick is worth that much! You're missing the point. The d-pad SUCKS!!! VF5 will be the SAME on both systems...apart from the controller...which is why I'd buy the PS3 version...if Tekken wasn't coming out...haha

What are you, 6? Why "dis" on anyone who likes playing fighters online just because you don't like to. Thats just your opinion and your opinion means nothing to everyone here, try using facts...oh wait, your incapable of presenting a legit argument.
Also, Xfire cannot come close to anything xboxlive has to offer. The only thing nice about it is it downloads updates automatically for you which still can get annoying when you realize your ping sucks while your playing counterstrike. BTW, 50 bucks a year is not expensive, its like buying a game once every year which I'm sure you could shell out...oh wait, I forgot you were 6 years old and your mommy doesn't like to give you money.
