GTA4 Wins VGA Game of the Year

Live at the SpikeTV Video Game Awards, the winner for best game of the year was just announced. The title for 2008 now belongs to Grand Theft Auto IV. Among the nominees, GTA4 also won Best Action/Adventure Game, Gears of War won Best Shooter, Metal Gear Solid 4 won Best Graphics and Best Original Score, Media Molecule won Studio of the Year, and Fallout 3 won Best RPG.

Not my GOTY by any means. Played for 4-5 hours and never cared about continuing. It's a great game for what it is but IMO a GOTY needs to be something that more people can enjoy...

not my pick,but I hope R* listen to what I hear from most players that it didn't quite live up and needs to be rethought,it felt like I'd played the missions before,but unless it goes MMo with real gangs and crime lords occupied by real people ,that can form alliances and stuff like that to drive off other gangs,then I cant think of another way they freshen it up

"Metal Gear Solid 4 won Best Graphics"

for me this was obvious,I played all of the big gfx games on consoles and act 3 alone especially that cut scene is enough to warrant this award

Maybe I was expecting too much, but that was biggest waste of two hours I've had in a long time. For something that called itself an awards show, only about 15 minutes of those two hours were spent on awards. More than half of the awards were given in a brief 90 second montage. Some of the "world premiere" reveals were kinda neat, but not really worth it and they're probably online already. The music performances were predictable and/or lame and the production was incredibly sloppy... not to mention the absurd amount of product placement and advertising. Bah-Humbug.

Never once did I feel like I was in a "living breathing city" like the reviewers said.

I felt like I was in a very small map full of generic characters with pop-in and repetitive missions.

I'll have to disagree... It deserved a lot of credit even GOTY. The game was more mature this time around(a plus for me), has some incredible graphics and replay value especially online. It's not perfect but not far from great either.

I never liked the gta series. Too much doing the same over and over. They need to put a shorter game and maybe I will like it. Maybe the downloadable episodes are better than the game itself.

I knew it would win, you could tell from the views of the game reviewers. They are possibly the only people that though this game was amazing, whereas the normal gamers thought it was sh*t.

ANY other game in the nomination deserved the titles more than GTA4, I just can't help but think that this game got the GOTY because of the immense hype (that mainly MS created).

It is a sad day in Video gaming when a company that is supposed to be non biased or persuaded by advertisement dollars picks a game that has no right being GOTY.....

Sad indeed. RFOM2, MGSIV, Motorstorm2, LBP, are all better than GTA.

Spike only nominated GTA and GOW because they are heavily funded by MS from their advertisement dollars....

Lets hope we see some honesty from IGN or others....

really GTA4 that was soo disapointing GTA4 out of all those good games they choce GTA4 that piece of crap i finished that in 2 days with breaks, and the story boring and gameplay boring everything about it was boring except when u killed a pedestrian thats it ... wow VGAS where so stupid it was only good for.. to se the new games and new vids thats all... really MGS4 nor LBP nor GEOW 2 or fallout 3 wow GTA4 im shocked

no question for me...overall the best single player game I have ever played...the online for it wasn't quite my thing, but still good (especially considering what country it came from)...

the game did well...it sold well...received excellent reviews...and was an impressive technical feat...GTAIV was an overrated mess for me personally, which seems to be the general consensus for nearly everyone...but whatever...didn't stop me from enjoying MGS4, and continuing to enjoy it...I was just hoping that Kojima and his team would finally recieve the recognition they really deserve...

GTAIV on the other hand?...this is the first time that I have had zero interest in actually finishing the declared GOTY...its apparently the best game of 2008...yet I haven't been able to bring myself to play it since June...and I was only 60% through it...and i'm not alone on that...

go with the agree/disagree poll...if you are still playing GTAIV reguarly, and love it...disagree...if you found it overrated entirely, agree with me...we'll see...
