Wired: Best of 2008: Top 5 PlayStation 3 Games

Before its launch two years ago, Sony's Blu-ray-powered PlayStation 3 looked poised to continue the company's dominance of the game industry. Now it's scraping for exclusive content.

It's no coincidence that all but one of the games on Wired.com writers' list were bankrolled by Sony itself. The maker of PlayStation 3 has ramped up its internal game development efforts in an attempt to differentiate its expensive, third-place box. And it's doing quite a good job at it, judging by 2008's software lineup. Will it be enough to save PlayStation 3's bacon in 2009?

Nice to see that WipEout HD is getting more attention, man that game rules, i do think though that Pixel Junk Eden should be replaced by either Motorstorm Pacific Rift or Valkyria Chronicles though

I think Valkyria should have been there instead of Eden. MotorStorm 2 is also better than WipeOut IMO.

IT's Good. The best $10 I have ever Spent!
The Co-op experience with My Brother was Nothing short of Amazing.

I guess in a Way I was obsessed with it, lol.

Comparing to downloadble games to retail games is like apple and oranges. So w/e.

PJ Eden is one of the most challenging and enjoyable games I've ever played. Enough that I wrote a letter to Q-Games to thank them for making such an awesome game. It's good to know that quality games like this exist, in the days of 3d super texture zombie killing.

I wouldn't say it's top 5 overall. There should be a PSN category where it would be listed as #1 for me.

But there should be a different list for PSN titles. Valkyria Chronicles, GT5P, Motorstorm 2, and others could have made the list.

What's all the Eden hate for? It would definitely be on my top 5 list for this year, just behind LBP, MGS4 and maybe Fallout 3.

I by far preferred it to Monsters as well and absolutely love the swinging control system. Also why are people saying it's too casual? I really expect that most 'casuals' will be very put off by the high difficulty.

I am not hating on Eden at all... Just dont think it should be on a top 5 list with 5 full BR released games this year.

MGS, Wipeout, R2, LBP, Valk, GT5:P, I know I am missing some.

you guys don't even buy playstation games. You are all talk. This is a casual, I don't know much about video games list.

You know, bias sites & blogs help casuals decide who's hot & who thier gonna screw.
Motorstorm pr & valkiria chronicles should be there along with others. Those other games are the ones you didn't buy.

N4G, now is not the time for talking about ps3 & its games. Its time to buy & enjoy & let the corporations sort it out.

Count me in as one of the happy to see Eden given attention- I must say with this game there really are no "casual" fans- either people seem put off with the gameplay or they absolutely love it. Though, Pennywise does seem to think PSN games need not be included with other full games to chose from, valid point, but I would still put Eden in my top 5.

I guess I just like to jump/get high and watch stuff grow. = )
