Biggest Sellers This Year Were Sequels

It's not really surprising that game sequels sell better than new intellectual properties. Didn't expect it to be this lopsided, though: seven of the eight best-selling games in the past twelve months have been sequels.

Agreed, not really surprising. I'm trying to imagine what, for example, the rest of the Top 25 is composed of and only sequels come to mind.

i think this is expected for the most part. Games i bought this year so far are Burnout Paradise, God Of War: Chains Of Olympus, MLB 08: The Show, Army Of 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Dark Sector. 4 of those games were sequels or prequels from a proven franchise, and 2 were new IPs. i think if most gamers looked at their game purchases in a year most would probably follow this trend.

Personally, I'm lot more likely to rent new IP's than buy them. It's not a proven product so I want to find out what I'm getting before I buy it - but then I end up beating it before I return it so it's a lost sale for the developer.

4.2 - yea
that's why i don't like to rent or borrow games, i prefer to give my money to the developers than Blockbuster or Jumbo Video.
