As a solo campaign, Resistance 2 just doesn't have a compelling main character. Insomniac didn't make it easy or exciting for gamers to relate to and identify with Nathan Hale.

On the other hand, Resistance 2 is unmatched as a multi-player game in almost every single way.

Let's get off the subject for a moment of r2 vs. geow2. You wanna know what game creams both of these titles (after I had the chance to play both)? MGS4. Better shooting mechanics than either, much much much better story than either, better cinematics, sound, music score, steath, bosses, enemy variety, etc.

Kojima totally reamed the competition this year in the FPS/TPS genre. Epic has no shot, Insomniac has no shot. And that's with my heavy bias toward both of these companies over Konami (whom I thought was good but not that good...)

@solidussnake well now that you put it that way... what about the MGS4's 9.6 and LBP's 9.6? (ok LBP isn't a shooter... but it could be lol).

on topic, R2 is the better shooter , Gears 2 got most of those High scores based off hype , it really wasn't a huge upgrade from the 1st game , from a technical stand point....it was mostly the same , with a better SP campaign , bigger environments , more colors , and Horde mode.....thats it

In my opionion (no bias whatsoever as I proudly own both systems), believe that RFOM2 is both better in the single and multiplayer. Why?

- RFOM2's battles in single player were epic. There are sometimes up to 15 enemies that you face that actually keep their AI intact. GOW2, I only counted 4 or 5 enemies at once that kept their AI intact. When sequences appeared that presented more enemies they were just foliage. They just walked and fired or stood their and fired.

- GOW2 framerate drops during some of the more busy experiences dropped horrifically. I remember the battle on the large platform truck things that actually was not playable at a few points as I couldnt see what was going on. The slow down was sad.

As for the rest of the video. I agree. The online is much better on the PS3.

Keep in mind. I loved both games. I am a big GOW fan and loved both the first and the second. I just think RFOM2 is an overall better shooter.

I'm playing through Gears 2 right now and there have been a few times when the slowdown is so bad it takes you right out of the game. Some of the textures pop-in is pretty obvious as well. Hasn't stopped me from loving Gears 2, but it does explain why we haven't seen much push the 360 farther than the first Gears did...it can't be pushed much farther, obviously.

Haven't played R2 yet. That's next.

I'm a huge Playstation 3 fan with an extreme bias for Gears of War. So I'm leaning towards Gears on this one. Keep in mind I haven't played either of them, but I'll be playing through Gears as early as this weekend. Although the numbers in multi-player were pretty limited in the first, it had a great strategic element to it. I watched some live MLG matches that were just sick. They had Halo 3 and R6 Vegas playing near it and those games looked pathetic next to Gears. I'll always remember a game awhile back where I was the sole survivor on my team, playing against a highly talented bunch, and I eliminated all of them single-handedly with my chainsaw, awesome.

There's just something to the character models in Resistance that doesn't sit well with me. Granted, what they achieved in their multi-player is pretty damn impressive. Gears just seems a little more polished, although at times it plays rather slow. That's from the perspective of a huge Quake/Unreal player though.

With all that said I doubt the story is any good for Gears. Epic fail badly at stories. I'm still shaking my head at UT3.

but people are nuts on this forum. I own both systems. I'm a sony fan. I played both and loved both. Since I bought resistance first...I'm still playing gears because I beat the game quick!

I'd have to give the story edge to gears 2, because I felt like the war against the chimera is just hopeless, and only got worse. I wanted to learn more about Nathan Hale and it seems like we just pushed farther down the rabbit hole. ( i don't want to wait 2 more years for a sequel, either). But for Gears 2, a story upgrade isn't saying much as the first game's story was worthless. Gears 2 had a campaign that was MUCH improved over the first game.

But Gears is squad based....and poor nathan is virtually alone as the other sentinels are pretty worthless.

I love horde mode, but I think the ability to switch your weapon loadout in Resistance Gives it the edge for multiplayer. No running around trying to be the first person to grab the torque bow.

But that's just me.

Anyway, its Thanksgiving...so go play.

The forums were full of people complaining the Orange Box on the PS3 was unplayable and it still received a better metacritic score than L4D. By the way, Orange Box on the PS3 was fantastic. I finished all 3 episodes a couple of weeks ago before trading it in against Gears 2.

I'm not saying L4D is a bad game, or it's metacritic score is anything to sneeze at, I'm just offering some perspective.

i have a 'most trusted site' There are sites that hate that will easily bring down the average. If you are too blind or naive to see this then whas the point. ign are my most trusted site because of their consistency. I find it hard to trust some sites and the past 2 years has been littered with scandal in our gaming media. These sites are run by humans not perfect objective droids so its human nature for questionable things to happen. When i say questionable im not just talking about good scores for or against any particular consoles' games.

Fine, you trust IGN more than any other site, we get it. But why should anybody else care about the fact that you trust them the most. Personally, I think IGN are ok, but they hand out way too many high scores. They basically hand out high scores like they were candy.

So anyway, obviously people have different opinions. I own a PS3 and a 360 and I like them both, but I do think that Gears 2 is a better game than Resistance 2. It just so happens that most reviewers feel the same way.

All I know, is that IGN has just lost all of their crediability. The Resistance series is the definition of generic shooter. The Gears of War series obliterates the Resistance series in every way imaginable. I've taken sh1ts that had better gameplay and prettier graphics than either of the Resistance games.

As said above. selling a game doesnt make the game great. At that rate all Wii games are nearly better than GeOW2.. coz wii games sell like hell..
And i think multiplayer has alot more weight vs singleplayer..
Alot more replay value comes out of the mutlpayer (coop+comp) which a single player cannot give. (atleast none of these 2 games)
Thats why he choose R2.. the replayability and total fun to be had is greater in R2 due to the seperate co-op n comp (both are top-notch) vs Gears (5v5 and single player co-op)

Resistance would've hit 90 if it wasn't for that one garbage site that gave it a 6/10... ye it has a higher rating, but that's only because it's a first person shooter and some sites are biased... Don't know how Left 4 dead got a higher rating than resistance, i've read a couple of reviews but one that just stuck out was 1up and it's garbage review, all he was just saying about left 4 dead was "i just freaking love this game" and talking about that AI thing (i'm not sayin the games not good, just saying that it's hard to believe that it has a higher rating than resistance). I could name a lot of things but i don't feel like writing a book....
