The best to get public attention is before the thanksgiving weekend. Family get together... if they like video games.. they will talk about Home..

1.4 - Beta Servers are Up
in 1.00 you can now connect to servers in different countries directly now... at least I am in the Japanese Beta and I'm able to connect with my US account to the US server now.

They got rid of the PSP menu though... that was the best and better than the new one any imo.

All my items from the US servers like the Uncharted items are gone =(

finally got back in home yesterday after the update and they really updated everything such as the menu and a couple of more dance moves.. lol. i like that the bowling alley shows people bowling now. only thing i was mad about was that i had to re-create my character again. didn't take too long but still... all in all HOME is almost good to go. can't wait to see more ps3 users on when it's out.

Home reserves that space, any DL's go into it. It's just providing space for future DL's in a reserve.

I like the look of this when released properly but I was told it is a 3gb package which I can't D/L due to a usage cap. Is that true? It would be a real shame to miss out due to BT Broadband!

3 gig? I'm not in the beta but have friends who are and I'm pretty sure it's no where near that size, the intial DL is just a few hundred meg, I'm sure. Plus each area is a seperate DL so you can pick and choose what you'd like. Maybe if you choose to DL everything you might be looking at something like 3 gig.

Internet cap? Dude, switch contracts/provider.

8.2 - I`m in the beta....
and I have no clue where it`s installing to, is not on the 'GameData' or the 'Game Save' file. It`s wierd, also it`s no where near 3gb even for all of it.

I'm in the beta, and yes it's over 3 gb. Maybe if you only stay in your room then it's less lol, but if you're downloading I think you'll do it in pieces and not in one big 3 gig dl. A dl for your room, one for the game space, one for uncharted etc...

8.4 - first off that 3gig claim is all rubbish
who ever told you that needs his head examined..
i just got into the beta last week, and believe me, the actual home software when you first download it and lauch weighs in at 85mb. once you get on then you download the rest of the spaces you visit. the home square is about 32mb, the theater is 9mb, the game area is 19mb and the shopping mall is 16mb. everything totals up to be alittle over 200mb and tehy are still updating. last year Sony said when they completely go public the home application will be smaller that 500mb

so this person who told you taht was totally misinformed and was clearly taking a shot at PS3 and Home. still i cant wait to get back in the servers are down now. so they should be back up really soon. i hope though i get into the killzone 2 beta because i want in on that game, seriously

8.5 - Thanks Sevir......
:)

@marceles

I don`t know where you got that info from, like sevir has listed......it`s nowhere near 3gbs.

Marceles' screenshot disagrees Sevir. Just a tad over 3GB...

http://www.ps3daily.co.uk/2...

Under installation and first visit: 3077MB

I also saw how Home's size is dependent on what you visit and DL. That may be why there is confusion on the size.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know about the ability to D/L in pieces, seems like a nice idea.

I read the 3gb thing in an article earlier this week but I can't remember what site it was on, as you say maybe it is when you get everything available.

Alas I am stuck in an 18 month contract with a usage cap so I am being very careful about getting anything to big. I guess we shall see how big it is when it launches properly out of beta.

EDIT: Thanks Marceles, seems concrete proof to me. It's not so bad if it is pieces though so I can spread it out over time. Perhaps the difference between the 3gb installed size and the smaller D/L is some sort of zip on the file or it is just that amount of data has been reserved on the HDD for future use so it will never be bigger than 3GB overall.

I apologize. I find that strange, cause like sevir04 all I have installed equals nowhere near 3gb.

This is very odd.

But I checked on mine and saw it for myself.

8.9 - no prob HighDef
That's my own personal Home information taken after I saw you guys talking about how big the file was. When you push triangle on any icon you can find out how much space it takes and I took a picture of it and posted on here to confirm with you guys. Action bastard confirms it further because the Home 1.00 update was about 77 MB, so the initial installation + 1.00 = over 3gb

Yeah I checked myself, It`s still wierd though, cause I SWEAR I haven`t installed 3gbs worth of stuff, But I do have everything in it (Home) and my Home file (GBs) is the same as yours (in the pic).

acedoh - 406 days 1 hour ago
8.11 - I have been in the beta since spring of 07
and it comes in over 3 gigs. I know it doesn't make sense when you download it but I believe that is because it's compressed. Then when you install the files they are uncompressed. The graphics are top notch and some of the spaces are large so 3 gigs could be a possibility. There is some type of initial compression since installations can move quite slow for just 30 megs...

when it says 1.00 was released to beta testers does that mean ppl already in the home beta?
or is this like a beta for people who have been beta testers for other software? (because i got into the betas for R2 and LBP, but no home :( )

People currently in the beta, as well as those who were lucky enough to receive a beta today or over the next few. It's still closed, but expanding now. Depending on load tests, more invites will continue over the next few weeks.

November 19th was never EVER confirmed by Sony. It was a crapload from some $#!tty site that decided Microsoft and Sony would go head to head with their virtual worlds.

10.3 - it's funny you bring that up
when no one at sony even gave us a concrete date. the last thing anyone heard was from Kaz at TGS08 saying that PS home will be out before the calender year 2008 ends. Some website i do remember said that NXE was going to go head to head with Sony's Home on Nov 19th.

please chris, lets not play the take random websites speculation as fact when not even sony has given any concrete date.

"Finally! After years of waiting, looks like Home is finally to release to the masses. Version 1.00 of the Home client has been released to beta testers."

I read that part and thought to myself. Beta testers are not "the masses". In any case I am sure this will be good for those who are part of it.

I on the other hand must be part of the minority as I am still waiting for the "real" full release.

"years of waiting" ? Didn't Phil Harrison announce Home @ GDC '07? I guess if it isn't released until Feb. he would technically be correct.

Who even cares about home anymore? By the time Sony gets its act together it will be to little to late. I thought it was going to be free. Now you gotta pay for a cute little club house? whatever. I am a fan of fun and so far Sony has been a huge buzz kill. I own a blue ray/ps3 and I really want it to do well but come on already.

14 - Clubs?!?!?! FUK DAT
why not say CLANS

because thats what im feeling might come out of HOME!

True clans! Everyone can meet somewhere and launch the game from HOME. If that works for 12 or more ppl at once that will be real cool

I think clan Headquarters would be much nicer than clubs (it seems the melding between Second life and Home is becoming closer now.) Clan HQs would be nice to have streaming music also (perhaps from just one person at a time though and basically only a administrator of the HQ or one of the moderators would be able to stream?) Unless you really trust your clan mates I suppose then give the rights to anyone.

Honestly a HQ for clans would be a lot better than clubs, seriously if someone wants to really enjoy and immerse themselves within' a club scene (granted they have one in their town) then they should just go to one of those.

Downloaded the update from 0.98 -> 1.0.

Noticeable changes:
1) In-game XMB now works.
2) Background downloading of each area.
3) More people. lol
4) Slightly faster loading of levels.
5) Re-designed "PSP-esque" menu when pressing Enter (it was your personal PSP in 0.98)

So far so good.
