when Sony did drop the price, you were gloating like you won the lottery. Now that MS did it (granted it was some time later) you're defending it like it's the best thing. Both were great and were necessary. M$ was losing prior to them dropping the price. Sony just had to drop it cause it was expensive. So stop currying MS and take it for it is, a good yet necessary strategy.

how can you say gettin back 2.6M consoles isnt an acheivement against a console that has set its self up and already got a library of games. also when sony price dropped after launch of course it was a desperate move. i never said it wasnt. a £425 console jus aint gonna shift much. and ms 2 years without a price drop. well 18 of those months were without the ps3 there and 12 without the wii. and as for it being the longest without a pricedrop. wii says hello.

ps3 at most of the time is much more expensive than a 360 even up to about double the price when compare against the arcade version. and the numbers are already that close. think again if sony is selling at the price that m$ is doing. u think 360 still sell that much? i dont think so. let put it this way, if something really sell, there is no reason you should drop price since you only gain more profit out of it. learn to look at the business perspective. just imagine you are one who is selling a product, when you know your things sells like hot cake, give me a good reason you will drop price since you earn so much more maintaining the same price point since its already selling. dropping the price can possibly make the sales number higher but it dont necessary bring more profit before price cut unless you can sell more than double the original sales you are doing all along then prolly yes. so when you think you actually consider a price drop for your product? when they dont sell as good as its intended. thats obviously a desperation move. does this take a lot of intelligence to figure?

He is arguing the point about how entrenched the brands become in someone's mind and it is obviously hard to counteract that and you guys are the epitome of the whole argument. Let me ask you this, why did you buy a PS3? It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that it was the continuation of the Sony brand, with which I am sure you had previously owned a PS1 & 2?

Let me ask you this also, did you actually play any games on the system or experience what the console had to offer 'BEFORE' you purchased it? I'm guessing no (forgive me if my assumptions are wrong), you know why, because you have a feeling of brand loyalty to Sony, it may even be a subconscious mechanism but it still exists.

Don't take this as slander in anyway because we are all susceptible to brand loyalty, I'm just emphasising the point that brand recognition is a major factor, especially in this industry.

For me it's not brand loyalty, purr say. It the fact the Sony continuously make sold products.

The PS3 is a fantastic piece of hardware, while the 360 is arguably a piece of ****.

Now the 360 does have some of the most hyped games ever exclusively on it's platform which brings it a lot of attention. The 360 has a fantastic library of games like; Mass Effect, Crack Down, Gears of War(1), Fable 2, Prey, and many other multi-platform games.

I bought my PS3 not because I love Sony, but because I knew that I was going to get a reliable piece of hardware, with a wide range of games to play. Sony has a massive catalog of game franchises they could choose to exploit.

The ps2 was/is the god of gaming machines for me. That system made me a gamer. With games like; God of War(I/II), Rouge Galaxy, Okami, FF10, SotC, Onimusha 3, DQ8, Ace Combat 5, Devil May Cry, and many others, I became a gamer.

I honestly don't know if I'll ever buy an other piece of Microsoft hardware, everything they make seems to break... : (

and u mention last remnant? i mention white knight chronicles in japan. that can be so much bigger than last remnant. not to mention that there are more japanese waiting for lr on ps3 than on 360. hell even re5 is more wanted on ps3 than 360. sorry son, but i just don't see microsoft winning this year worldwide. america might sell a lot of 360's but everywhere else in the world it will be ps3/wii territory. and that's the truth.

if you look carefully, all year long, the market shares stayed the same. MS still has 12%, Sony has still around 33% and Nintendo has the rest.

It doesn't look like the price drop did anything for MS aside from a spike. They didn't gain any market share at all.

I swear MS is run by a bunch of teenagers. Always boasting about how good it's doing and always trying to undermine it's competition. Sony on the other hand rarely attacks it's competition. E3 is the perfect example. Don Mattrick said, and I quote, "We WILL sell more units worldwide than PS3". That is a direct quote. A quote from Jack Tretton at E3 was this, "We look forward to delivering experiences you can't get anywhere else".

You people be the judge. MS is only IN the business to try and unseat Sony and steal their marketshare. Too bad that's not going over too well. Sony's still here and judging by the worldwide numbers, it won't happen.

You're correct.

PS3 has failed to reach a vaiable critical mass for 3rd Parties. I expect many devs to forgo the low-sales, high-production-cost PS3 and focus on Xbox 360.

My 'medium term prediction': 2011 will be a very tough year for PS3 owners as the Xbox 360 takes all the development attention. PS3 owners will only have common titles (EA sports etc) and Sony 1st Party titles. Developers will flee the PS3.

The UK is good stronghold for Microsoft.
But the problem is the advantage on the launch a year before the Wii and the PS3 has melt. The Wii lead europe, Japan and US. The Xbox 360 lead the PS3 in US and in Europe. In Europe the lead seems to be for a short time for the xbox 360. Maybe at Xmas (this could be maybe optimistic, but the PS3 should lead soon the xbox 360), the the PS3 will lead the xbox 360 because the sale are really poor in the rest of europe .
The most impressive is the estimation of software sale for 2009 from the different videogame companies: Most of them put the PS3 in front of the xbox 360. They know something we don't know, maybe!!!

the 360 is NOT at 25 million worldwide..even MS confirmed that...they claimed that they will 'ship' 25 million by Dec. 31st 2008...

grouping the reliable stat trackers together however puts the 360 a little over 22 million...and the PS3 a little under 17 million...

the 360 is roughly 5.5 million or so ahead of the PS3 currently...don't from 10 million when the PS3 released just 2 years ago...and wasn't even out in Europe yet...

People fail to realise SONY SHOULD be winning, with such a strong brand recognition, 14 years in the console market and the success of the PS2, it is inevitable in my opinion that the PS3 will eventually catch up. This however doesn't mean the 360 is a failure, far from it, MS were annihalted last generation, but have really closed in this time round and deserve credit for this and the competition they have provided so far.

Microsoft had different console SKUs (Premium, Core, etc.) this generation long before Sony even came on the scene with the PS3. Sony copied virtually every element of what MS had done with their online service, from gamer cards and game invites to achievements and the video marketplace. Your post is a joke.
