National Geographic publishing Afrika in the US

Afrika US release next month! Ps3fanboy.com writes:

Remember Afrika? It's a nature-themed PS3-exclusive photography game that met moderate success when it debuted in Japan earlier this year. An English release seemed unlikely due to the niche content of the game, but it appears the game will be making its way to American shores -- and from an unlikely source, as well.

National Geographic has picked up the rights for Afrika, rebranding it as National Geographic: Africa. It's promised to release next month -- but with potentially very little fanfare.

Nice to see see Sony work with a company that has experience on Wildlife, it brings that particular fanbase to become more interested in the game becuase of the name brand thats smacked into the cover (National Geographic.) Not to mention it brings this notion to parents that games can educate kids depending on the title that you buy.

"2 5 0 M B SAVE FILE?!?!!? yes, 250mb save file. So every time u save... it takes.. maybe... 1 minute or so. Thats my only gripe... "

That won't bother me. I have a 320GB 7200RPM hard drive in my PS3. Should help on the save time and it definitely helps on the disk space. This is one area the PS3 is great. The drive was around $200 but a 120GB for the 360 costs almost that I believe.

This is an interesting development... if NG fund it, and this sells moderately well, we could see Sony doing more variations of this title... like the Amazon, or Alaska etc...

I would really love to see how the Amazon would be done especially with the Anaconda's and such. I will be picking this up because I have wanted it since the first trailer.

6.3 - yeah
I agree. Dinosaurs would be amazing! I think they should take Sony games...like Motorstorm, God of War, or Killzone 2...and put you in the action, taking pictures the whole time. Maybe integrate it into the game...having your friends defend you the whole time. Multi-player with one camera-man on each team...having to take pictures of secret intel in the other enemies' bases or getting the best action shots. Not bad, huh?

7 - I hate National Geographic
They're about as scientific as Bugs-Bunny physics, and they're the longest-running child porn distributers in history.

actually the National Geographic press release this info came from (yesterday's announcement that it set up a games division) has it listed for November, not December.

I've been so excited for this game! I freakin' love picture taking. I first got obsessed with it on a photo-taking game on candystand.com. Loved it! Then, I played through all 3 Fatal Frames...which are, by far, the best survivor horror games out there. I can't wait for this!

15 - nice!
i was hoping it would get a US release at some point, but i didn't realize it would be this soon!

i'll pick this up along with Prince of Persia.

thank god December is looking to be a slow month for game releases. that way i can catch up on all the titles i missed out on in October and November (like Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, and Far Cry 2).

i watched the trailer for Afrika again earlier tonight, and it looks very intriguing and different. i love National Geographic nature documentaries, so this game has always appealed to me.
