New Call of Duty outsells CoD4 by more than 2 to 1 in UK

The first week sales of Call of Duty: World at War have outsold Call of Duty 4's debut by more than 2 to 1.

The title – bookies favourite to be Christmas number one – has gone to the top of the All Formats charts in the UK, according to data from GfK Chart-Track.

Games from publisher Activision Blizzard account for 25 per cent of all sales for the week ended November 15, with World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King taking the number two spot and becoming the fastest-selling PC title in the UK.

Well I think the ps3 version will outsell the 360 just like fifa 09 did. Asda were doing WAW for £27.99. And the Ps3 version was selling like mad, I must of saw 10 people buy it in 10 mins, and most of them were buying 2+ copies ( I bought 3). I didnt see 1 360 version selling and there were loads of them stacked up on the desk.

Wow...It never ceases to amaze me how someone can look at 1 store in their area and assume that is the way it is happening everywhere else. I have got to ask though. Why were you standing there watching everybody buy their games? Do you really have nothing better to do?

Almost all the Western European countries are only wealthy today because of everything they stole in the slaughter we call Africa. And it continues to this day, it's just under cover.

Impressed it managed to beat out WOW. Still, ASDA (supermarket) were selling COD for £27 new, since launch they haven't been able to keep up with demand.

Great game which I might pick up down the road, R2, Gears and L4D will keep me busy for the meantime and lets not forget that big shooter just a few months away now.

@ Fishy,

I like R2, but in my opinion, this game blows R2 out of the water. You should pick this one up sooner rather then later.

Side note: I finished R2, and the ending is crazy, but the multi player doesn't have nearly as much to offer as CoD: WaW.

I will not pay £40+ for a game.

And why is Gears of War 2 so low?

This only goes to prove that big names sell - lots of people bought COD4 and it was awesome, so COD has a great reputation. I don't think this iteration is going to harm the franchise, however, it might be a slight disappointment because it's not _that_ big a step up from COD4.

It's got some fantastic reviews, and some awful ones (but I don't think Edge magazine's opinion really counts for much tbh).

Even though there's a bucket load of WW2 games, WaW now stands as one of the best WW2 shooters created. Of course that's debatable.

yeah its not a 'bad' game...but CoD 4 was one of the top games of this generation so far...critically and fanbase wise...

talking to tons of people on CoD 4 lately (ps3 version) almost all were saying they would be sticking with CoD 4 over buying world at war...there were groups that would buy it obviously, but most claimed to be happy with Cod 4 for the time being...and would definitely be on board for whatever 'modern warfare' sequel arrives in the future...

thats how I feel as well...WWII won't cut it for me anymore...I'm sure the game is still an above average shooter...but it doesn't seem new or fresh at all...which was the major selling point for cod 4 imo...

Best WW2 game maybe. But it really doesn't beat other shooters. I'd rather play GeoW2, R2, L4D, CoD4 or even Halo 3 right now.

It's pretty disappointing.

I've beaten CoD: WaW and I've spent alot of time playing it online and I can tell you that it is the same as CoD4 only with different weapons and a different point in history.

The maps are beautiful, it has more perks, tanks are available on some maps, the campaign co-op is impressive and Nazi Zombie Mode is alot of fun.

Excellent game that is in the same league and arguably a higher league due to co-op, as CoD4.

I think that some game sites are biased against Treyarch and since they came out and said that Treyarch couldn't pull it off, they don't want to look bad by giving it a good score. IGN's review is spot on.

I think that CoD:WaW is very sloppy developed imo. But that might only be me. Infinity ward seemes to give more devotion in to thier work than Treyarch. It just goes to show that the PS3 version is worse than the 360 version of CoD:WaW visualy.

Even though people will be playing it and hyping it I won't be hopping on the bandwagon anytime soon.

surprised me...CoD 4 is without question the better game of the 2...and the hype for CoD 4 was huge...

i'd like to see the totals towards the end of the month...I know cod 4 was under estimated at launch shipment wise...and was sold out for at least a week nearly everywhere in the US last November...

still surprises me that people in the UK are so eager to go back to WWII though...i'll be taking a 2 day vacation there at best (read: rental)...

I just wanted to point out the fact that your statement, "CoD 4 is without question the better game of the 2," is simply in YOUR opinion or this board would not be going in the direction it is. I would venture to guess that some people would indeed QUESTION whether COD4 was better than COD:WAW. Obviously, I am questioning you, so what makes it unquestionably better?

I really liked COD4, and I enjoy COD:WAW. I have never played 1-3, so I'm not tired of WWII or whatever.

There are a few issues with WAW, but I am not going to be shortsided and forget that COD4 had some issues when it was released. I have no doubt that Treyarch views this game as a way to repent for 3, so I would not be surprised to see some solutions for the MINOR issues is future updates.

Who ever said that the IGN review was spot on, I second that.

fair enough...I haven't played WaW yet...and no...CoD 4 being unquestionably better was not my opinion (as I didn't play WaW yet)...but the opinion of nearly every single reviewer that has played the crap out of both...

CoD 4 still stands as one of the highest rated games of this generation...World at War isn't even close...that was all I meant...

if you are not tired of WWII shooters...great for you...apparently this is one of the best...but I have played nearly every single one of them, dating all the way back to Return to Castle Wolfenstein (still the best of WWII shooters I have played so far, online wise anyway) in 2001...and am VERY tired of them...

I am passing on this for now, just got R2. I try to stick with one game per genre for a bit before taking on more, by the time I am done with R2 it'll be KZ2 time.

I like the games look though, might not pick it up till it hits $30.

Next up is likely Mirrors Edge for me, then maybe try out Dead Space.

CoD4 was still at £34.99 pre-owned months after it's release. The demand outstripped supply, so we had our own little wii-like shortage. Only Activision did something about it.

CoD: WaW has a great price attached to it, no supply problems (CoD4 + WWII + Nazi Zombies = Lots of DVD pressing, plz) and already has pretty much everyone who bought CoD4 buying WaW, because CoD5 is as a CoD game has always been (apart from CoD4), as in it is in WWII.

I was in Game yesterday, who are generally overpriced, but, for PS3:

Call of Duty 4: Game of the Year Edition - £44.99
Call of Duty: World at War - £39.99

Insanity.

I've never seen CoD4, in any store, for less than £40

I think is not a surprise, because the COD4 made the hype needed to its sucessor COD WaW...Before COD4, no COD game was so great as COD4!

£27 is really good, but I've already bought too many games and I won't have time for it until Killzone 2 comes out.

Oh, what to do?

There are just too many good games out on the HD consoles! Damn you Sony and Microsoft!

This is a stupid report IMO, I mean when CoD4 came out nobody saw how amazing it was truly going to be it wasnt till it won all those GOTY awards that people swarmed retailers and bought their copies. WaW is just riding its coat tails.

12 - This really is not news...
or at least not in the manner in which one would usually think. Given the success of COD4, you should expect the COD:WAW to outsell it, and ride its user base.........especially considering the amount of people that have no clue of development cycle that exists between Infinity Ward and Treyarch. COD4 created the snowball effect......and COD:WAW came along and jumped on the finished snowball.

13 - WTF? Snowballs? Whatever
Anyways,, just like I realized yesterday while playing COD4. It seems that most of the children are still stuck playing COD4. I bought COD5 at launch,, and it is better then part 4 in so many ways. The only thing part 4 has is better presentation. That in no way hiders the phenomenal gameplay experience of part 5. COD5 has a larger scale of battles, better graphics, visceral combat, blood, guts,, bigger and badder guns, and requires more skill to actually kill people. The reason why you little boys probably dont have the game is cause mommy said you couldn't play such a violent game.

Also, the reason why I feel that all the men are playing part 5 while you kids are playing part 4 is because all I hear are kids playing on multiplayer in COD4. B8tching, screaming,, name calling,, high pitched voices,, you dont hear half of that noise in COD5. I tried playing COD4 yesterday with my brother cause he doesn't have part 5 yet, and there was sh*t talking little kids that gave me a headache in every room we got into.

I always find myself muting people for life on part 4, but not COD5. People actually are really cool on there, even on opposite teams. Sure there are @ssholes everywhere, but its just ironic that all you hear in COD4 is little kids talking with homoerotic gestures, asking their moms for cookies and milk, and just plain ol annoying little brats. Im glad none of you have COD5. It makes my experience that much better. Again,, thank you for being ignorant.

13.1 - Wow...
so many places I can start with your post. I will say this...men do not have to go around trying to justify why they are men, while at the same time trying to prove how others are little boys.....and if a video game is really how you distinguish between a boy and a man........well that is a whole issue within itself. When I read such a post...I can not help but to laugh...cause there is no way that you could be serious.

COD4 owns COD:WAW, when u think about it COD:WAW is nothing compared to COD4, cod5's story mode is a joke, hardest story to follow, 1 min ur a russian 1 min ur an american and so on...at least u can actully follow cod4's story mode, cod5's guns are a joke compared to cod4, its also biased on what level you are...also what would u choose, a springfield of a barrett 50 cal?? hmm, dogs or a helicopter? hmm, COD4 ftw, they update with new levels am going back to it...
1 good thing bout COD:WAW...Zombie mode, gotta admit that does kick ass lol..
