Capcom Smashes Devil May Cry 4 Xbox 360 Rumors

Rumors have been been flying around the internet recently about confirmation from PlayStation Magazine that Devil May Cry 4, playable since TGS 06, would be coming to the Xbox 360.

Kotaku decided to check in with Capcom themselves and get more info.

Their response?

"Capcom does not comment on rumors. Devil May Cry 4 is exclusive to PS3. No other announcements have been made."

1 - Headline is a little misleading...

I'm not sure if Capcom's "no comment" counts as smashing this rumor. If anything, that's only going to add more fuel to the fire since Capcom didn't deny it was coming to 360. They just didn't comment.

Nah, all it means is that currently only the PS3 version has been announced. It's the same game all companies play. He's telling the truth that it's an exclusive currently. If he said "DMC will remain a PS3 exclusive forever", then it would be pretty solid.

The way he's worded it has left open a "DMC4: <Subtitle>" game for any other platform.

Of course fanboys take these statements as permanent facts, so whenever something changes in the future they start crying "LiarS1!!!". Look at the anti-Sony crowd. They have that skill down pat.

Ubisoft among many others have said the same for games like Assassin's Creed...Armored Core 4...etc., etc. Then suddenly...BAM: Coming to 360.
So yes, headline IS misleading AND I take what they say now with a grain of salt.

IF the game was a PS3 exclusive and was to remain that way, this last line would not have been included. Does anyone here honestly believe that Capcom wouldn't release _any_ games on the 360 given the HUGE success it has been for them? It just DOES NOT make financial sense to give up $60-$120 million in sales (Dead Rising, Lost planet)....

Dead Rising and Lost Planet are coming to the PS3 (a Sony version of Lost Planet was hinted at by the director). But hey, if Capcom says it's exclusive, it's exclusive. (for now)

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if any of these jumped consoles. Games are just too expensive right now for the publishers to sink so much money into when each console has such a low installed base. But yeah, just based on these statements, the DMC4 to Xbox 360 rumor seems to be squashed.

I love the Devil May Cry franchise..I really do..it's the reason I bought a PS2 in the first place. I'm a huge fan of the serious and I can't wait for the anime to be released. DMC as good as it is...is weak in comparison to Ninja Gaiden. Everything about Ninja Gaiden is better....Graphics, Gameplay, Difficulty and (arguably) the Story. Dante is sweet...but Ryu Hayabusa is amazing!! Ninja Gaiden poor man's Devil May Cry...no not even close. Devil May Cry is Poor Man's Ninja Gaiden. If you haven't played it before...when NG: Sigma is released for PS3..you will forget all about Nero and DMC4. NG is the way action games should be done. I can't wait for Ninja Gaiden 2(well actually its 6 including arcade game). DMC 4 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma(even though i own NG and NG: Black) are the only reasons I am considering PS3. If Capcom is sticking to their guns and not releasing DMC on X360...then I guess I still have 3 reasons to get a PS3..Ninja Gaiden: Sigma, Devil May Cry 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Sony would end up with another franchise to take its place. I noticed a trend i have stated before. Microsoft buys em after Sony makes them legendary. Im more looking forward to Heavenly Sword than I was this game anyways. DMC did start going downhill after the first entry. Great for PS3's library numbers but stay or go i dont think Sony would of lost any sleep over it either way. BTW Capcom still has plenty love for Sony Microsoft dropped a hella big check to keep dead rising 2 exclusive. So the guy who said this

needs to check his facts and how the industry works. a 2 game sucess story due to the circumstances like being the only next gen console out on the market at the moment does not merit a console being the new platform of choice. I got one even better. Lost planet was originally a PS2 game but the system software couldnt handly it and guess who comes along in the nick of time you guessed it. the 360 dev tools and Capcom was already itching to make the game so. Blam you have lost planet on the 360. Just remember sony has been capcoms bread winner for the past 10 years. Capcom and Sonys love affair isnt going anywhere anytime soon.

I remember when this Game called UT2007 was exclusive to the ps3 and the pc but now we all know that's not happening. The ps3 just doesn't have the user base for games that are exclusive to sell well on that system. Games might be exclusive for a couple of months, but most will eventually be on the 360 soon after if not before.

Remember when the "Only on Xbox 360" sticker was on Enchanted Arms? That's being released on PS3 in March. But the other point that you were making is correct, all of the consoles have too low of a userbase for companies to sink millions of dollars into at this point. They're better off making multiplatform releases now, and then going exclusive later when there's a clear winner.

14.2- I'm not saying it's a good game, I'm just saying that the "Only on Xbox 360" doesn't mean a thing. I could see a bunch of Xbox 360 games moving over to PS3 as well: Saints Row, Lost Planet (more of a long shot on this one as I think Microsoft has it tied up pretty well), Dead Rising, Bioshock, Mass Effect, etc. Get used to it, exclusives are going to be rare at least for a while. First party size and quality will matter more this generation than ever.

No official man ever said UT2K7 was exclusive to PS3/PC...just a rumour that's all. And for Assassin's Creed, the developers just said: For the time being we can only confirm a PS3 version. They never said it was exclusive to the PS3, although Sony did have the chance to make it an exclusive ( stupid thing on sony's part ).

Like another person that posted before me I as well have never played this game ..and kinda was looking forward to it...to see if it was a AAA title like the ps3 boys lead me to believe it is. Developers like Capcom are leaving money on the table. Capcom should consider back polishing and porting older games to the 360. A good example would be Devil May Cry Anthology (the first 3 titles with minor grpahics enhancements), and of course RE4. i for one would buy these.

Look how well the super old arcade games are doing. Lets start some back catalog love for titles that were once exclusive.

I don't think anyone can deny that for now this is only slatted for the PS3. That said, their quote certainly was not a set in stone forever kind of comment. We have seen this kind of thing plenty of times over the past year...the game is exclusive to "xyz console" only to see it released later on the other and/or released at the same time with a new press conference anouncing its release much closer to the release date. Assassins Creed is a perfect example of this. They denied a 360 version and said PS3 only for quite sometime. Then the hammer dropped. Lastly...with the success of Dead Rising and Lost Planet now on the 360 ....I would be shocked to see this stay PS3 exclusive.

Honestly the only way this is staying PS3 exclusive would be if Sony ponied up a ton of cash...which they very well may have given how hard they have been hit on other games going multi platform.

Sony has said they've never ponied up cash, can't find the quote but they've always refused to do that. They don't "moneyhat" titles to make them exclusive. I believe it was Kaz Hirai that said this in an interview, does anyone remember the particular one?

capcom would be seriously alienating alot of PS3 fans and potentially be hurting thems selves,... in all honensty, Capcom is doing great creating New franchises for the 360 and bringing their already multiplatform titles Next Gen, Like RE... notice a Resident Evil has always graced a console since Nintendo Playstaion and Dreamcast, the next logical step would be to go the same route this time around, they did it with RE4 for Gamecube and ps2 and now they are doing it with RE5 for ps3 and Xbox 360 and the Umbrella chronicles for the Wii, which is brilliant, a ompany that can fully support all 3 platforms without porting over the major titles that were built specifically for that platform is to be praised, i think Dead rising and lost planet should stay on the 360, because it's developed soley for tjose users and because Capcom knows that the 360 is a new platform to experiment with new titles and IPs for a new next gen audience, which is MS, they are new to the Game industry so new stuff for them, while the Playstation should have the well established IPs with a sprinkilet of new ones as well, most likey ones that were just released on ps2 last year. So DMC4, Onimusha 5, Monster Hunter 3, God Hand 2, Okami 2, can all be Sony stuff,. while MS gets some new things to delight the xbox fanbase. i'm actaully pleased that Capcom Can be so great that they do stuff like this, just like MGS4's creator says He'll develop New games for the 360, not port stuff built and optimized for the ps3, which is why they have been so successful.

with you on that one, I think Capcom is one of the few devs who seem to have there head screwed on straight.

At the end of the day it doesnt matter to me if games are multiplatform, but the approch Capcom have taken in the past (as mentioned by Sevir04 above) allows them to keep their loyal fans happy as well as share their work with other consol fanbases and gives scope to trying new things or add a different twist to already established series)

Which is not only sound business sense but the best way to keep all gamers content as far as Im concerned)

I picked up a PS2 for Christmas and FFX, FFXII, God of War, MGS:Subsistence.
Two weeks ago, I saw the DMC anniversary edition - all three games for 30 bone. Could not pass that up.

Haven't played them yet, but I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

It might be awhile before I get a PS3 - I'll likely try to get a 1080P TV first, but I can always go back and get the games that I wanted to play.

Perhaps its because the success of exclusives means the purchase of the ps3 rather than its competitor(s)- this in turn means a bigger ps3 home base - which in turn means developers will want to develop for the ps3 - meaning more games, more exclusives - which means more ps3's sold - which means more developers/games/exclusives/ps 3's sold... .

On one hand you guys get proof, regardless of what you may think, straight hard proof. That as of right now they have no intentions of bringing this game to another console. As far as we know...and you still don’t wanna believe it!

Then on the other, you guys try and read between the lines of every news article as if it's all a conspiracy and that you know, beyond a benefit of a doubt, what's truly going on. For all we know they may decide to port the thing to the DS, PSP or maybe our cell phone...lol.

C'mon on guys give it a rest already, stop speculating on every news story, and take it for what it is for now until something a little more definite comes around. That’s how half these rumors get started and then end up getting smashed right here on this web-site.

for any third company party to take sides. I thought Saint's Row was announced for the PS3 by THQ, and I wouldn't be suprised to see Deadrising and Lost Planet on the PS3 at some point. Makes little business sense not to try and capitalize as much money out of an investment property. Just like the DMC series being other systems.

They contacted the pr rep for capcom and that the standard reply you get with most pr on rumors. I remember contacting red octance pr about guitar hero II being put on the Xbox 360 and got the same reply as posted from above.
