The Most Realistic Video Games Yet

PopSci.com.au writes: "Games are beginning to exploit the computational muscle of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to generate characters and environments that follow the rules of reality, not just preset sequences. Developers have finally figured out how to write software that takes better advantage of the multiple processing cores in the Cell chip that runs the PS3 and the Xenon CPU that powers the Xbox 360. By performing several tasks at once, the chips can execute billions more instructions per second than their predecessors."

2 - I don't think
The jump from this gen to the next will be as big as it was from last gen to this one.

3.1 - Similarities
Consoles games right now if the time is taken look similar to PC based games right now. If you compare the average gaming PCs graphics to a consoles on a 37"+ 1080p set there is a very small difference. Now same cannot be said about the super SLI rigs out there BUT the graphics cards and memory alone in most of those rigs cost more than both the XBox 360 and PS3 combined toss in a couple hundred more and you have the 37" 1080p set as well. Next Gen, whenever that will be, will be comparable to todays higher end SLI rigs but the jump like DeathroW22 pointed out before won't be as great as was from the previous gen to current gen.

I think we're quickly going to get to the point where console hardware will be ahead of development tools and gaming engines. That's where the advances will be needed, not the hardware.

That list was a FailList.
