Square Enix Still Popular In Japan

Despite all the negative press that Square Enix have been getting from fans on Western Shores, Japanese gamers don't really seem anywhere near as concerned. Famitsu published a list of Japan's most anticipated games and Square Enix had a staggering 9 games from the list which had 15 titles.

What's even more interesting is that two of the titles are appearing on the 360 (Star Ocean 4 and The Last Remnant), but even though the Xbox 360 still doesn't hold much weight in Japan, it seems to peaking interest finally.

The only Negative press coming out from the Western audience is from PS3 fanboys who are angry that SE hasnt released a RPG on their console at the time. I feel cool with my doze of rpg T.O.V , IU , LO ,BD ,Fable2 , Eternal Sonata ,Operation darkness and with soon to come Last remnant , Star ocean 4 .

Im of to another thread with my MAX SPEED!!!

I couldn't care about the FF# fiasco. In fact, I kind of think it's hilarious. What pisses me off about Square-Enix is how they crap out sequel after sequel, port after port, remake after remake. It's really trashy. They have no creativity left in them at all. The worst part are the ports. Chrono Trigger DS, for example. It's going to sell millions, I guarantee it. It's a great game, and I wanna buy it just to have a hard copy, but... why should I? They aren't making the game any better. Basically we're paying $30 or $40 for an ancient product (and one that'd be easy to find a FREE rom of). If anything, it should've just been made available on the Wii Shop Channel.

Square-Enix can blow me. Those crooks aren't getting my cash.

My reason for disliking square enix has nothing to do with multiplatform games or fanboyism of any sort. It just saddens me how low they have sunk from when they were only squaresoft during the PS1 era. They released quality after quality title, games like vagrant story, chrono cross(one of my fav games of all times), all the final fantasies, parasite eve, xenogears, etc..... Back then they were my favourite company but now all they do is rerelease their old snes games and solely make FF games. They havent released anything which even slightly interested me since FF 10. Still hoping for Chrono Cross 2 I'd be more excited for that then a remake of FF7 anyday.

I liked Squaresoft. Back then, they weren't so damn greedy. Now, they lost their way with these stupid remakes.

It's a shame.

3.2 - True to an extent.
SE has released an awful lot of remakes which I can live without.

But it's not true at all that those are the only games they've put money behind besides the FFs. These non-FFs, non-remakes include:

DQ: IX (DS)
A new Valkyrie Profile (DS)
Kingdom Hearts 356/2 Days (DS)
Soul Eater (Wii,DS)
The Last Remnant (360, PS3, PC)
Infinite Undiscovery (360)

And I'm stopping there to be polite. I'm not saying you SHOULD enjoy them, but recognize that they are indeed trying in their own way. I personally hope they don't release any sequels to anything I enjoyed two gens ago if indeed the company sucks like everyone says. Wouldn't they just taint it with more suck?

@Tony P

The problem is that Square Enix made a huge following of quality RPG fans.To compare games like Infinite Undiscovery or The Last Remnant to the glorious PS1 games or SNES games is insulting.Even the "sequels" of Final Fantasy like 7 and 9 were completely different and introduced new innovative battle systems. The expectations of JRPGs from Square with Mass Effect and Fable 2 commanding the west is embarrassing since Japan has yet to release a single AAA game.

My anger from FFXIII is that Wada and co have basically take a franchise that was built around one console's strengths and basically reduced it to just another RPG franchise. It's a shame that Square Enix will never, ever be as good as Squaresoft.

And it's more confounded when Wada says "We should consider some sort of 'Japan Alliance'. t's not forcing everything into a single corporate brand. The ideal is a holding company under which several companies and brands can hang."

Hypocrite, opportunist, don't infect me with your poison.

The power of mistransalation and sensationalism.

Wada and the recent SquareEnix have become a joke among hardcore gamers in Japan. If you spent anytime reading Japanese boards or blogs you'd be able to figure that out. They are the EA of Japan.
