TGS08: Final Fantasy XIII Live Premiere...Underwhelmed

FinalFantasy-XIII.net: According to ff13.xrea.jp, the Live Premiere Final Fantasy XIII event that was taking place today only lasted 20 minutes and included the trailers without voices. Even more annoying, the show turned out to be a live music event.

Aslong as Nomura isn't pressured by Square-Enix people to make it multiplatform, then it'll sure be PS3 exclusive.

Things got impossibly bad since they started all of their secretive "Mega Theater" events. This really sends the wrong message about their development status: What's going on and what is it going to be like?

Having all of these events just gives off one message time and time again, especially as more and more people get out of them with "meh" faces: They're not taking things seriously.

This is truly a shame. I was looking forward to FFXIII and now I feel that they have handed the series over to mediocrity. I only dread what they would do for Kingdom Hearts...

FFS, what a bunch whining little babies you all are. Did MS rape your mother or something? Do you people have the slightest fücking clue how business works? Do you understand the concept of competitiveness? Seeing you pansies cry about this game and how unevitably bad it'll be just because MS is even involved makes me happy, beacause at least I know that some of the lowest and most ignorant forms of human beings on this planet are unhappy.

On a sidenote: FF sucks, has always sucked, and will always suck no matter on what system it comes out for.

(bye bubbles, we had a good run!)

This honestly can't be Microsoft's fault.

Square Enix announced FFXIII back when the PS3's technical specs were coming out. There were even interviews with 3D designers showing off one of the massive full cities in the game, with most of the outdoor areas completed. Unless the PS3 (and subsequently 360) can't handle what work they did with the city, that's a humongous amount of work already done.

This game better last well over 200 hours. The wait for FFXII gave me at most 65 hours to nab most of what I wanted and 100 hours for the complete experience.

I was watching that live.

As soon as I saw Wada on stage, I knew Final Fantasy XIII was multiplatform. It was the crappy way they did it though, where he pretended to walk off and then "suddenly" remembered.

I actually felt annoyed that the game had been presented as multiplatform with such a slap in the face, pretentious attitude. That turn was basically a slap in the face to Sony and people who are fans of PlayStation and it was wrong. If it was just showed, fair enough, but to turn it into theatrics? What's the point of that?

7 - whats is wrong with this game????
What on EARTH is going on with this game? I know they're building a new, supposedly, kick ass engine with the game and all but its been 2 and a half years since the game was announced and we haven't really seen a new trailer since May 2006. They keep showing new trailers on closed theaters and keep all new information to themselves in trade shows. How can they be this slow? What the HELL is wrong with Square?

How can Level 5 announce, create and release a game as epic (and perhaps more revolutionary than FFXIII) as WKC in less time? And that game has online! I want FF13 but this is seriously one inefficient team Square has working on the game. Everyone, from developers, to marketers to PR guys. Its a f**** mess. I have no doubt it'll be a great game but they are truly testing my patience with this "no new information whatsoever" policy.

9.1 - They have a cash cow keeping them in busyness
Most people don't realize despite FFXI being not as popular as WOW they are getting a lot of monthly revenue from subscribers. After the Squaresoft bailout FFXI brought them back. Once they got profitable they merged with Enix.

The Sony platform keeps getting set back.
First the long delay for the HDD
Then the removal of the HDD on new slim PS2's
Positive PS3 lauch that supported the game but never updated to next gen. Followed with Sony removing BC yet again screwing over SE.

360, Now you have 360, a Microsoft product rowing in more users with fully developed 360 clints. Supporting full achievements.

PC. Then you have the PC version supported by Microsoft.

This cash cow is mostly dominated by a Microsoft install base that feeds SE millions every month. You think SE is going to ignore the negatives and positives their main steady cash cow is earning them.

Not only that, but when MS pays for a product they pay to promote it as part of the deal. That's why you see commercials for multi-platform games only show the 360 logo at the end. It's because MS pays for them not the developers.

The way I see it is Sony and SE where married and MS came along and seduced SE with sexy deals and opportunities. SE when confronted with a better partner decides hay, I don't need this one as much anymore this one treats me special. This more deals are made exclusive or in Microsoft's favor.

The truth is Squaresoft (before merger) through it's life almost went out of busyness and companies like Nintindo and Sony saved them.

The whole situation just makes me sick to my stomach that I reluctantly support all the companies mentioned above. If they didn't monopolize the market with product that interest me I'd not support any of them.

Nothing kills a games momentum and sales faster than going multiplatform. When this game was a Ps3 exclusive, or thought to be, everyone wanted it. The news, the pics, the clips, anything and everything FF13 was big news.

Now, well... it's just another game you might buy to tide you over until something exclusive drops.

Thanks Microsoft.

10.8 - wow. there's a lot of crying going on here lately
I dunno why that is.

I have to disagree with silogons' comments about going multiplat.
I think the facts would indicate that for ANY company, the benefits and potential audience is greater for multiplat titles, than exclusives.

Can you imagine how many extra millions would have been sold of MGS4 had it gone multiplat?
WHat about bioshock? Even paltry sales on ps3 will improve the bottom line sales overall, won't they?
So, really, going multiplat gets MORE sales for the developer.

Ultimately, this is what needs to be considered:
FFxiii is coming to the ps3 is it not?
Development is being led on the ps3 is it not?

This is what ps3 fans have wanted all along, but the whining continues!

I just don't get it.

Sour grapes, methinks

Sorry but ever since M$ started being buddy buddy with Square, and when this game went Multiplat, i totally lost interest in this, not only because of that, but because ive noticed that they have shown footage for Star Ocean 4, Last Remnant(which are on 360 i might add). yet its been 5 years and we are still seeing the same damn trailers. im more interested in Versus though, thank Nomura thats exclusive. :/ idk guys.

Face it guys the moment Square merged with Enix the company became ****. Think about it when it was Square Enix they brought out the best titles with good stories as well. Now with Enix XII was average in my eyes sure the battle system was good but the story was non existent.

Death of Squaresoft was decided when they joined Enix. I've never seen wonderful games from them, i really miss the old Square. I have to say goodbye to the feelings i felt playing FF VII/VIII (and i really appreciated the "back in time" FF IX). And what about FF Tactics? Yes, ok, i really liked FFTA and the sequel, but i won't never spend so many hours like i did on the original SQUARESOFT title.
Then FF XI, something to forget, always according to my tastes...
Maybe cause i got used to high standars, and when they became SE i got FF X-2 (...), FF Chronicles (..O_O), FF VII: Dirge of Cerberus (!?!?!? O_o.....??)... Why all those spin off? Always crappy things, nothing compared to the previous games! And now that Fabula Nova cristallys whatever, another story to use a franchise to milk players on all the platforms. And the funny thing is that in this Fabula Nova Thing saga they have 999999 titles that NEVER come out, each time is "the next year". Better for them FF XIII is good, or i say goodbye to the saga.

Thing is the reason it went multi platfrom is because the game was costing to much to develop. If it remained Ps3 only there would be no way to recoup the cost.
So if it hadn't have come to the 360 the chances are it wouldn't have come at all.
Saying that it still might not judging by recent events.
Im not bothered really the last few FF games underwhelmed me and seem very dated compared to the likes of mass effect.
