Linger in Shadows explained by Sony

Console Monster writes: "Well firstly what is a demoscene? It is a movement of artists and programmers who make pretty 'demos' that explorer the limits of the graphics capability on the system, in this case the PS3. It has been used over the years on consoles to maximise the graphics and see how each system can perform."

I bought it, and I love it. Shows how opinions can vary. But at £1.99 there not much you can complain about.

Mind you I've been an avid fan of Demoscenes for years, even back to the Spectrum days. I guess if your not this could be outside of your usual comfort zone.

People who have understood what it is have quite enjoyed it. I've not seen a backed up negative opinion about it that's not expecting it to be a fully interactive game.

you don't know what you're talking about... but hey, de gustibus non est disputandum..:)

i think it's very cool and sony should encourage groups like plastic to do more stuff like that.. and 2 quid is nothing for this. i paid more for breakfast today..

1.6 - i thought it was interesting
a pile of ****? .. not at all. i thought it was interesting, esp at the CAD price of $2.99. (bottle of juice ? ... cool unique PS3 demo?)

Anyway.. i've alwasy been a fan of the demo scene since it's early days. I used to write some my own years and years ago just out of hobby/interest for graphic programming+art (not actually competiting though)

Good to see something unique like this, i hope it encourages other interesting releases.. Way to go scene.org. big ups.

I enjoyed the ride, and that's how it should be taken. A ride. You pay your money, you sit down and take it all in. When it's done you've got a lot to reflect on. It was a very smooth ride for me.

Oh I got a disagree. So let's say that for the foreseeable future Silogon makes intelligent, factual, an unbiased posts on the majority of his contributions. Should he not be entitled to some of his bubbles back for making a positive change in his behavior?

i like the concept actually. it's like that old final reality benchmark from the 90's on pc but interactive. i spent a good couple of hours with it last night. not bad considering it's about a 7 minute cutscene.

My first playthrough with it I sat there scratching my head at the end "wtf did I just play/watch...I'm so totally jumping into this again once I get the chance"

Idk about you guys, but Linger in Shadows reminded of me Team ICO games for some reason, I say that cause Team ICO games have that unique art style to them, and as does this game.

Will def have another play through to try and get the rest of the trophies! lol

Speaking of Team ICO games, Shadow of the Collosus...see that creature in the top left in the article picture (not sure what to call it) but that thing reminded me of SotC a lot for some reason lol

7 - it was clear what was told to us from sony and the demo seen
"not a game."

even if it has trophies tacked on,the base of what linger is is that it's just a 3d interactive set piece.a demo.and i busted "thesixthaxis's" @ss on it in another thread:
http://www.n4g.com/up/Actio...

read my comment and all will be revealed.

games have levels, difficulty, items to collect, wins or losses, time limits, etc.anyone that has played "Tori Emaki" knows that that qualifies as interactive art just like linger.but it's not a game.no points,no leveling up,no next level, just interaction with art.be it with a controller or the pseye.they are the same.

thesixthaxis tried to make a comment on their site below the poor review/article in their comments thread that tried to compare other things released on ps3.but they seem to not grasp what those other things are.

trials of topoq-clearly a game.there's a beginning,an end,enemies,harder levels,etc.

operation creature feature-clearly a game.sort of like lemmings without the help items.you, the player, are the help item.but your creatures can die.you go to the next level, etc.

aquatopia-not a game.more like an interactive screen saver.no levels,no enemies,no items to collect.it's just there.you look at fish.and you interact.you might even be able to get away with it and call it moving art.clearly not a game though.

but to not be able to figure out what linger in the shadows is just makes me want to tell some people to go pick up a text book.or read the playstation blog on linger.

apocalypse.............

i loved it. been following it for months now. i got really excited earlier in the year when there was interview with the team.

i thought it was great that these guys with full time jobs come together for projects like this. the mix of audio and visuals were creepy yet i couldnt keep my eyes off it.

being a techdemo. not only do i hope sony is smart enough to hire these guys on a full time posisition. i hope other developers tap them.

even if they don't develop a game. what they can add to new games via adding moood and some added gameplay.

controlling that black smoke around the dog and robot was cool.

controlling the robot as it was coming out of the debris, moving his head going forward and backward was kinda creepy and set this ominous feel to it.

best $1.99 i've spent ever.

anyone who says the game sucks didnt read the description or know what they were buying. its not a game was never promoted as one. this group of individuals from time to time get their hands on new hardware, software code etc and make this artistic tech demo. great for finding new ways to use software and push hardware. they also have someone who does the music composition.

11 - DL'd it last night
It was very strange. The screen started shaking, along with my controller, I didn't know what was going on. So I turned it off. Couldn't seem to get past some kind of opening credits before all that happened. But I'll give it another shot, sometime.

11.1 - more to it !
You can stop the 'movie at certain points and find stickers by moving the controller (camera) around. When you see the a progress bar (top middle) with two controllers either side, it usuall means you have to perform an action. The controller images indicate what you have to do.
You can slowly or quickly rewind and fast forward as well as move objects about There's a sticker on the long missile thing leaning on a building to the right the shadow moves past. theres one to the left of the gap the shadow squeezes through. there's another one to the left of the cat.
Dunno where the others are. just have to play and kep looking. I have 66% not too god but not bad.

11.2 - off the top of my head....
there is one in the beginning after the credits, when you see 'tenticles' look down, there is one where the flower is floating look to the left, that is before the cylinder one, there is one near that tower where you can manipulate those blocks, look down. one is near the cat the first time, look down and right, its on the end of a pipe or something. arg its really hard to explain some of them, but just keep your eyes peeled.

Easiest '100% trophies' ranking anyone will ever get, plus the snapshot feature is cool. I've got one as my background right now. No replayability really besides picture taking, but it costs less than a coffee at Starbucks so whatever. You can't drink a coffee more than once either.
