Playstation Home launching Oct. 24?

Variety writes: "Just back from a demo of Playstation Home with Jack Buser, director of the service for Sony Computer Entertainment America.

As most of you probably know, Home is the "Second Life" 3-D world Sony is developing to help its members socialize, discover new content and services, and, of course, trump Microsoft's currently superior online gaming platform Xbox Live.

Sony hasn't announced a launch date for Home, which is in public beta. Buser would only say it will be this fall. But then as we were checking out the new space in "Home" devoted to Sony's game "Uncharted" we noticed that the code to get in one of the locked doors is "1024." And Buser added that the number comes from the front of the apartment buildings where Home users have their "personal space." "But who knows what it means?" he added (I'm paraphrasing)."

everyone thinks that when a number pops up in a teaser or anything or demo. that automatically the release date.
samething happened in june. an article came up and said fw 2.4 coming out june 24th did it? no. it wil come out when its ready. just don't get your hopes up and be waiting all night for home on the 24th just to be disappointed. sony will let everyone know when its ready when it is. so just be patient. and im not saying its not coming out on the 24th cause that is a possibility but just be patient and hopefully it does happen.

ps: can't wait for the new dashboard for the 360 2!!

I don't think that Sony should just make it so one day I turn on my machine and "Hey look it is Home". I mean they have spent 80 million on it, which isn't the kinda of figure where I think they should quietly release it they are gonna make a huge deal about it and make sure we are all aware if the release. It seams like all for nothing if they don't. With TGS just hours away in Japan we may find out tommorrow what the plan is. Hopefully it will be like the video service at E3 they show a demo then say oh yeah it will be availible Tonight or in X number of days.

it'll be good for sony to launch it before the NXE becuase it'll regain the hype it lost to the NXE. Although i have to admit, Home only looks a bit better to me. it'll depend on how the whole interaction thing goes and if sony can give me cross chat.

I think it could definitley be better, depending on how many games are utilized within it. The only thing I'm afraid about is developers will just pass on it, and it'll stop being used. Obviously exclusives will be in it, but I'd like to see multi-platform games in it as well.

I agree that releasing it before NXE would be a good move. Or even better they could release it on the same day. That would steal quite a bit of MS' thunder. I don't think they'll do that though, since that's pretty dirty.

Do we have to say it? It is NOT, and i repeat, NOT a second life clone!!!

god almighty somehow managed to flood the logic factor in every mind of people needlessly trolling this crap over and over again. It is not Second Life! Do a side by side comparison or whatever! Just look it up! It's not Second Life!

You get in Home:

-One apartment that you can customize

-An avatar you can customize

-The ability to meet friends from your PSN

-Watch Movies

-Play Games

-Load and Launch games

Second life is merely something with a hell of a lot more than that and less if you count the specific functions. Wanna know why? Second Life's concept was to provide a SECOND LIFE for people is some weird lame way and somehow gain a profit out of it.

Oh god, just compare the two when they come out and stop making this bland assumption.

Comparing the BETA to Second Life here:

Second Life is far too glitchy and free-form to really have all that much fun in it. Trust me...I've been playing for awhile. It's like playing Clue with a bunch of toddlers. Despite the fact that it's a good game, there's no possible way you can enjoy it.

HOME is fun. HOME makes you feel connected. HOME is...Home.
