Resistance 2 public beta starts October 17th

The public beta for Resistance 2 is due to kick off on October 17th according to Jersey-based etailer Play.com.

During an announcement revealing that customers who pre-order Insomniac's upcoming FPS game from them will be guaranteed a place on the public beta, Play let slip that the beta will be available to download on PlayStation Network from next Friday. A closed beta for the game has already been running behind closed doors for numerous weeks.

Meh, retailers are the worst source when it comes to release dates. GameStop already said on their page that the beta should start October 6th and they were proven wrong. Plus, Bryan from Insomniac said on NeoGAF a few days back that it's going to start soon. The 17th isn't "soon" at all.

This shouldn't get approved.

He said that three days back.. I wish if I can link it, but it's on the Resistance 2 Hype topic. Two weeks can't be considered "soon" if we take in mind that the game will be released November 4th. Also, didn't Insomniac, namely Ted Price, said the beta should start early October? How come the 17th is "early October"?

It says beta starts 17th oct. and they will be mailing out instructions the 16th oct.to those who pre-ordered.

I pre-ordered, was going to do so anyway as I loved Fall of Man...

Edit: I doubt play.com would lie to their customers. They wouldn't put up these details up on the site if it wasn't true.

They have removed the text that stated the beta starts 17th oct. But it still says they will mail instructions on 16th oct.

And since this probably is about the european beta it still might be right. The game releases later in europe for some reason...

6 - the 17th is way late. the game goes gold next week...
the beta should be any day now and isn't Play.com a UK site... The beta is only for american PS3s... I'm guessing this week the this friday the beta will go live.

why are they even wasting their time with a beta.... that is not really a beta... because by the time its out the game would have gone gold.

why not just release it as a demo.

12 - Hmmpf... It's Oct 10
They may have type in the wrond date. I've been reading on the Playstation Underground site, that Resistance 2 is dependent on Socom beta test completion. I think they are using the same servers to test Resistance. Socom beta has been extended to Oct 9, Resistance beta starts Oct 10. Besides I can't take all this waiting. I gave up trying to play Socom and changed my preorder to FarCry 2 instead.
