Says Infinity Ward....Aka the company who said they didnt put Co op in their game as a patch because they felt they didnt have to since it was already such a popular game.......also the same people who barely support their current game and gave us a map pack that was absolute garbage and never gave us anything else..........

But yes collector editions are kinda a scam...like really how much of a collector edition can something be when they make 1 million + of them??

agreed, special editions are 1 thing, but these days they are calling any kind of edition a limited one, and then months later you can still buy them for even cheaper than first release price. Thats not limited edition, they are just 'expensive editions' as Kotaku likes to call them.

2.2 - Totally
I have to say, I like buying the collector's editions for games of they are any good. I would LOVE a Shadow Of The Collossus Collector's Edition for example.

But I agree with OOG, the GTAIV Special Collector's Edition isn't exactly that Special, or collectable as every idiot with the game got one.

I like the new Gears and Resistance boxsets, I just don't like it when they are over-priced.

never been into limited edition at all. i imagine perhaps as a collectors item that may be worth something someday but as much as i'm into my gaming i'd feel a bit 'geeky' with a replica lancer in my room haha

only ever got 2 limited editions if i remember right and they we're just metal cases and we're the same price as the regualr edition. The actual game insterests me more

5 - A few questions
Do people buy these collector editions in hopes that they will be worth more money some day?

Do they ever reach a point where the collector edition is actually worth more than when they were released?

If no on these, then what is the point of the collector editions? Do the toys you get make the game better?

5.1 - They are kinda like art
If you have a cool ass game room in you house, (pool table, ping pong, big screen TV, etc.) The Halo helment on the mantle or lancer hanging on the wall adds a cool flair or atmosphere to the room. It's no different from the guys with deer antlers, and bear heads mounted on the wall. They are just another form of trophy.

6 - Garbage
for some...

I was in gamestop last week and the rep behind the counter was trying to push the lancer as a selling point to these two teenagers. The kids were like "how is it going to look for me to be running around with a lancer?"

the kids were right. It looks pretty cool, but you might want to hide it under the bed if your lady friend comes over.

when a limited edition really is a " limited " edition then ya, it can be a great thing and who knows how much it would be worth a few years down the line.

If only i had known what those gold sns carts would sell for now...

but, as everyone points out, they aren't really limited anymore.

it is nice knowing you got something that not many people were able to get hold of, but it means nothing now.

They should call them something else; The Toys R Us Unlimited edition with dead head barbie and chainsaw ken.

Those collectors editions are just a way to get you for more money, lol. There is no real incentive, aside for a pack-rats views.

I agree.

"Hey, maybe if I hang my golden lancer on my wall, it'll impress my girlfriend!!"

Pathetic.

If it's a game that I'm highly anticipating, I always buy the Limited Edition. So far this year I bought the MGS4 Limited Edition, Resistance 2 Collectors Edition, Fallout 3 Collectors Edition, and I Pre-ordered Dead Space from Gamestop to get upgraded to the Collectors Edition version of the game for free.

To me the Limited Edition Merchandise that comes with a LE edition of a game is worth purchasing the Limited Edition version of a game alone, but that's just me. Some people see value in things produced in limited quantities while others see no value in it at all, it just depends on the person.

13 - You pay $$$ for limited junk that you cant sell
HE is 100% right it is a pissing contest to see who can scam the gamers the best!!!!!!
This limited edition junk which is usually just some paper books with artwork and extra discs that you pay 20-40 dollars more to have is just junk cause you cant sell it anywhere for a good price. In fact GAMESTOP the company famous for trades and such doesnt even buy the special edition limited stuff back from anyone, and if the ydo they dont give you any extra cash for it or trade in credit. The same is true with Box sets of games. like the resident evil box set they will not buy it as a box they buy each game individual and the ysell them that way also and they throw way any box that it may have been in OR the employees will save the box and special stuff and then buy the games for themselves so they have the whole set. Just look at the mortal kombat collection just released for ps2, i bet u can buy it today from gamestop and then go back the next day and say u wanna trade it in or sell or whatever, they will throw the box out and take each game separate. so this alone proves that the same people that sell u all this junk and push it on you at the counter will not even buy it back cause they know it is worthless TOTALLY. the only games that will ever be collector items and actually worth anything are the games made in limited quantities which hasnt happened in a long time. So if u wanna collect something go buy reg NES and atari carts and hope u got a rare one. or try to find sega saturn games lol

£129.99? That's 150 American dollars! That lancer better be real gold for that price!

EDIT (@ below) That's even worse!

15 - Do you open the collector's edition?
Technically, if you want the collector's edition to retain its value--the box can never be opened. Where is the fun in that?

I have sealed collector's editions of Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies. Guess how much they are worth...

Pretty sure the only one doing the collecting is the publisher collecting cash the suckers that pony up the extra dough.

Don't be a rube!

I am getting a limited edition gears at gamestop so I can have the exclusive in game gold lancer visible IN the game for multi-player. I don't care about a toy lancer.
