EA Axes Tiberium For Not Meeting Standards

Following word in July that EA's Command & Conquer-based squad shooter, Tuberium was getting shifted back to 2010, comes word that the game has been officially killed and some staff let go, the publisher confirmed with Kotaku today.

Kotaku obtained a copy of the internal memo sent to staff earlier today outlining the reasons why the game was axed. In the memo Mike Verdu, of EA LA, says that the game would not be able to get up to snuff given the amount of time and resources left in the production cycle.

This was one of the games I was looking forward to this year. I'm a huge fan of C&C... This reminds of the time when they canned Starcraft Ghost (albeit 3rd person) it still looked damn good.

I want to see this games even if it is crappy! Can't be worse than some of the other cr*p being released.

The trailer in my opinion was trying to market to the Halo crowd, maybe it was the goal of EA to complete directly with Halo.

The game looked like it had potential, but didn't make the chopping block.

Lol I was thinking the same thing...

Not up to standards? What kind of standard is that? To just be slightly above dog turds in terms of quality? This game must have been a real turd to be below EA standards.

4.1 - Yeah, haven't you ever been tubing before?
It's a pretty lucrative market and there is always need for an intergalactic conflict when it comes to mining for tubes.

Hmm I have a stack of game informers and one of the covers was for this game. they shouldn't hype about games that were barely in production. The same thing thing could be said about ghostbusters. its a shame

come on EA, you know you want to give it to us... and then bring out a load of patches after to finish the game off.

ok, but for real, this game did look good, but then there are soooo many other fps games. it takes a lot to make the mark these days. look at what Haze managed to accomplish- nothing.

This is when the publishers should simply give the existing code away for free or a minor fee, why let it go to waste...?

9 - Bummer.
I guess I feel sorry for those involved in the project. I have a feeling this quality control B.S. is just used to axe the game was just a lame excuse for giving more funding to casual games and sequals.

So that makes Sony's M.A.G. (I just remembered how much I hate that name), left as the BIG multiplayer game for next year, if on time.

Microsoft may have to scramble a 2nd party studio to get their own massive online shooter going.
