Burnout Paradise gets Trophies, but they are not retroactive

The version 1.5 patch for Burnout Paradise has went live this morning, meaning that you can now get started on building your collection.

It was thought that the Trophies were to be retroactive, however it has been confirmed on Criterion's website that they are not as it states "Burnout Paradise saves are locked to your profile. We had hoped to use this to retroactively award trophies, but we discovered during testing that this is not possible. You will therefore require a fresh game-save to receive trophies in Burnout Paradise. If you're familiar with PS3 trophies already, you'll recognise that this works in the same way as all other games that have added trophy support post-release".

*Update*

The patch only seems to be live in Europe at the moment, however it has been confirmed it will hit everywhere later today.

Some people might disagree with me but I'm actually glad that the trophies aren't retroactive. I've been holding of playing the game fully until the trophy patch came out whilst my brother pretty much has 100%.

This means that I should be able to get them all before him now and have some real bragging rights!

Can anyone in the UK let me know some things about this update? Firstly, is it live yet? (thought that doesn't really matter to me since I'm working all day). And secondly, what trophies are retroactive? For some reason I'm not expecting them all to be.

Really looking forward to this update :)

So they're not retroactive? Wonder why they didn't let us know before today, to avoid all this disappointment. So since the file is locked to your PSN account or whatever, I guess you need to go to the save game folder and delete the save game file to start collecting trophies??
Shut this user up Let user speak
andron666 - 463 days 8 hours ago
2.2 - I don't think you need to delete your save...
Keep a copy if you do ;)

But you have to start a new save to get trophies. Too bad for those who have finished the game already...

European friend on my PSN list says they don't appear to be retro. Gonna be pretty pissed if I have to do everything all over again, seeing as how I have 101% in both cars and bikes.

Have to agree with that... I got 101% done with the bike license over the weekend and have been done with the cars license for a long while now. I don't know if I want to go back into the game and play for another 40-60 hours to re-do everything I had already done. Really not looking forward to the fences, billboards, and jumps. Too many games coming out to spend time on these trophies I'm thinking. I'm just dissapointed that they said the trophies would be retroactive when trophies launched and now they're not. Oh well, at least they still did add them for those that will go back for them or just picking the game up today.

Patch is live, it's only for trophies.

They're not retroactive, but Criterion seem to be having a few problems. I'd wait until it's worldwide before saying the trophies aren't retroactive though.

Q:...
A: I think if you make a backup of the save file on a external disc or memory device, you can delete your save file on the PS3 HDD, and keep your 100% file saved for a posterior use...I think this works!

Who cares? I mean, what's so bad about playing your games again? I'd hate to have seen you all back in the nes days. Dying over and over on SMB or Ninja Gaiden and having to replay a level again and again. I bet none of you would've made it out alive. "ha"

anyways, this is a bummer I'm sure to a lot of you who did put many hours into and just wanna play for leassure now, but give it another go. It might even make the community that much stronger.???

Replaying a 3 minute level in Mario is a bit different than replaying an entire game with hundreds of events.

Confirmed not retroactive: http://www.criteriongames.c...

Even though I've been playing this game since launch, I will continue to play it again for my trophy goodness. That platinum trophy will be mine :D It will be nice to explore the city from a newbie's point of view again.

Something interesting about that page is the quote:

"These trophies are awarded for the gameplay that shipped in the original Burnout Paradise disk version."

Does this mean there will be different trophies for the downloadable PSN version?

I don't think there was anything Criterion could do about it. It probably has to do with Sony's implementation of the trophy system, and like Criterion said "If you're familiar with PS3 trophies already, you'll recognise that this works in the same way as all other games that have added trophy support post-release". I don't think retroactive trophies are possible, which is a shame for people who have spent hours and hours on some games.

meaning all your progress is stored on the server NOT your Ps3

kinda annoying tho

Like Ro11z said. Maybe there's a way to go around the problem by moving your gamesave to a server and updating it from there.

I think it's weird that the platinum trophy is awarded for completing all of the trophies which were in the original and not the extra content. I would understand if the content wasn't free, but since you need to have internet access to download the trophy patch, you'll get the content packs as well, so the platinum might as well require those as well.

oh yes you have

http://www.criteriongames.c...

"The official Web site of Burnout Paradise's developer, EA-owned Criterion Games, also revealed the patch will be the first update to retroactively award trophies automatically. "Trophies will be awarded based on your progress in your existing save game," the developer said in a statement. "When the update arrives the trophies you have earned will reflect the progress you've made in the game at that time (so you won't have to replay the game again to earn trophies)."

So I take it you don't ever play a game over more than once? Just curious...

Not trying to question your anger, cause I'm in the same boat as you. Just wondering whether it's out of principle that you wont play it again, or that you just don't do games more than once?

good point there mate. i replay games ofter. i'm replaying mass effect after replayed bioshock :D
i'm just pissed because i bought paradise 1 month ago and i tought "screw it.. im gonna wait for trophies", then they came with the retroactive bla bla, don't stop playing bla bla. i believed in them and played.

and i dont replay a game that i cleared everything in it. i only replay story modes.

ps: bubbles for you mate

It's a good thing I didn't bother doing too much before the patch. Criterion should have said trophies "might" be retroactive so people wouldn't spend hours playing for nothing.

Besides that I don't like the way that to get a platinum I have to buy a playstation eye, that really takes the p!ss.
