PES 2009: If Only Watching Real Soccer Was This Fun

Kotaku writes: "If there's one lesson I learned from Konami's super fun gaming day in NYC yesterday, it would have to be coming to the realization that playing a soccer video game is far more entertaining than watching a real one. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not hater by any means. I respect the sport, and I rarely ever diss its fans. But this is the only instance I can find where the video game equivalent is far more entertaining than the real thing. Is that because real soccer is just that boring? Or is it a testament to how good Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 is?"

1 - Sigh, you wonder why the world hates your ignorance...
Obviously reviewed by a dumb ass American.
That's the only person on Earth that says that kind of crap about the greatest sport on planet earth.

Oh, BTW, no one likes American Football, or BaseBall.
They are crap. Please rename the Word Series to the American cup or something, as no one else in said world is in it.

i'm from europe and love baseball also. but dont compare the numbers or worldwide football (yes not soccer) players to baseball players. only in brasil there are some almost 2 million players signed up in the football association.

but American football came first : ) like 1609 and rugby wasn't their until mid 1800's, so who ripped off of who? and at first American football was played without armor but people were getting killed and injured really badly so they put the gear on them.

no need to get all serious about it. If the native americans were playing sport then that may of predated rugby but as a country America is reletively new if you know what i mean. It doesnt really matter what came first anyway but Football is Football not soccer

wtf first the Americans change our language whilst still calling it english then you rename the WORLDS sport soccer. (Im joking....in a serious way though;)

erm soccer isn't the american name for football. its english. another english sport Rugby is also known as football. Thats why when rugby when to america they called it american football. I cant stand NFL ive really tried to watch it but it bores me to death, how long can they make 1 minute last in the game? plus why all the padding you dont see NRL players wearing it and they hit just as hard if not harder.Baseball is ok when there is something happening but most of the time there just spitting or looking round ide rather watch tennis.just my opinion tho.

Because they kill Each other, you seen them tackle people especially the 300lb ones. it isn't just catching and running BTW, theres a strategy behind it, its called play calling, how to run past the tackler without getting killed on the field. anyway, i like all sports. except for Cricket.

If you think cricket is too slow watch the 20/20 matches the rules are different so the game is alot faster paced so there isnt much in the way of waiting for the right ball you just swing and hope it goes.

That is only yet another example of our arrogance and pin hole view here in America. We're about the only country left that doesn't hold the metric system in first regard.

Seriously, I'm embarrassed sometimes by my country. We always have to view things from a point of view so strongly set forth by our own culture that the rest of the world shakes its head. We always act as if what we like is the best, and everyone else should fall in line, while simultaneously belittling things that the rest of the world adores since we don't/can't relate to it. We always have to be right, even when we're wrong. "Cuz we're America damn it!"

I swear, I wish the rest of the world would just lie to the stupid 30% or so of us who won't let it go and say: "Hey, you guys were right about Iraq and you won!" Just one more lie. Maybe that way we'd be able to bring our troops home instead of them dying over some B.S.

8 - My god, you people are pathetic
You go on about football being great and (american) football being rubbish, just because you didn't grow up with that sport around you. It's that closed-mindedness that grows hate in the world. It's a sport/game ffs... get over it! "Oh, our country invented this", "ye well our country did this..". Let's face it, everyone else's country/traditions seem weird and sometimes laughable. But at least try to be open-minded and accept that different people like different things.

Anyway, about the game... can't bloody wait for it. I used to follow football, not any more - i'm a rugby man now (much more entertaining to watch, no b1tches pretending to be injured!). But i've played pes2008 everyday since it was released - great game.

Well, that leaves about 9 tenths of planet Earth that couldn't give two sh1ts about a glorified rounders (look it up) game. I think I have a legitimate point, using baseball in my post.

Seriously though, you guys do come of HIGHLY DUMB. It's not just Kotaku, I have heard similar comments from tons of Americans in the past. I cringe for considerate thoughtful Americans. I know you are out there.

Americans can be really stupid given a chance, haha at American Football being older than rugby, also "American" sports are only played by americans, exception being baseball which was created by a Brit anyway. I mean why call it football, you hardly use your feet at all. Football is what Europeans play and it sure is better than American Football.

Some people don't like football which is fine, I don't like American Football tbh, I find it incredibly boring. I've tried watching the Superbowl which is supposed to be the showpiece event of the NFL, assumingly the pinnacle of American Football to see what all the fuss is about and it starts and stops so much I can't see how anyone finds it exciting in any way shape or form. at the same time I also understand how some peopel might find football boring, it's all good it's down to preference.

I think though that what might effect that preference comes down to a difference in culture. During a recent discussion an American friend told me that Americans are suckers for a large spectacle, a large event which is what a lot of the likes of the NFL is. Football on the other hand, regular season matches aren't huge spectacles or events in the same conext as an NFL match may be. The NFL is a spectacle around a game, football for any real fan is a religion. You take a trip to cities like Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, London, Rome, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona or Athens to name only a small few and you watch how fans are in the week long build up to a big derby game and their reaction after it if they win or lose.

Football in Europe and South America is more than a game or a spectacle or an event, it's a religion in itself and a way of life both domestically and internationally, you just have to look at how seriously England fans take their national team. There is no other sport in the world that gets that kind of reaction or has that sort of passionate following, absolutely none whatsoever. Due to cultural differences many Americans will never understand this and along with not truly understanding the inner workings of the game itself is why America may never adopt football as one of their top sports. At least not until it becomes a lucrative sport in college like American Football is, if that ever happens.

Now as for the article I thought it was a decent read. The guy gave the game the props he felt it deserved which is impressive since the guy isn't even a football fan. Games are meant to be fun, this guy had fun with a sports game for a sport he doesn't even like.

talking about getting things out of proportion anyway soccer is older than any popular sport out there and a few were inspire from it (basketball).anyways, i respect every sport because there is a physical or mental performance from the person playing it.soccer the one that i called football is the most fun for me due to the fact that i grew with and there is no time outs and if it is as easy as you think come on and give it a try.

Why the hate? As someone who loves american football (Chicago Bears, Florida Gators) and European Football (Aston Villa) I truly don't understand this us vs the world mentality i'm seeing from some Euro Footy fans. I get it, the game is very important to you as it is to me. But my #1 sport is American Football because that's what I grew up with. That's the game my family and I watched together and it is a passion that I will put up against any other group of fans. I invite you to attend a college football game in the South and compare it to a day at Anfield or Old Trafford. Just realize that whether its baseball, any form of football, basketball or any other sport fans are fans most likely because of generational support and nobody should be ridiculed for continuing family tradition.
