SingStar's DRM is Broken Beyond Belief

Colin T. from Infinite Bits talks about how horribly mangled SingStar's DRM system is for its downloadable songs:

"SingStar's DRM is by far and away the most controlling system from a videogame company in this day and age, even outstripping the berserk Spore DRM system (which is hard to do)."

Any owner of SingStar will think twice about downloading a song after reading this...

that's good to know. i just bought a few singstar tracks over the weekend........

unfortunately i doubt it will be addressed. these are not big concern issues for companies unless it happens in mass and the people go to the internet and doors of the companies with pitch forks and torches..

Haha, you really think I cut and pasted one word? Even I'm not that lazy.

Clearly you just heard the word for the first time recently, but some of us have had it in our vocabulary for a long time. ;)

Sure Colin...

Attack CViper with insults, but don't defend your use for the word you pointlessly used.

7 - Could have tried
making a new profile on his/her PS3 and try and redownload the songs with it. I can't buy any of the stuff on Singstore myself without a PSN card.

Why do we approve stories people have written and contributed themselves?

9.1 - Because we
don't get to know who submitted it before it gets approved.

Yea it's kinda dumb imo, but at times you really can't tell since in the pending they have the contributor's name masked during the pending stages, unless they reply to a report someone made, or it's dead obvious who's submitting it via the site it's coming from lol, then as I said before, can't tell who's submitting what

**Edit**

Lol looks like I went down to 7 bubbles from the 8 I had, wonder who decided to steal 1 from me haha

Clearly it was approved because people liked it. Why should it matter who submitted it? Since it was approved without anyone knowing it was submitted, it would have gotten approved anyway, no matter who submitted it.

I know somebody on my friends list who had to go through the situation he is talking about. My friends system crashed because of his nephew and he had to replace it. On top of that his copy of Singstar was inside the system and he couldn't get it out. He sent the system to SONY who replaced it with a new one and gave him a new copy of Singstar. Then when he found out he couldn't get the songs back he called SONY which refered him to the singstar people. When he got in touch with them it took some time but they dropped DRM and allowed him to re-download all his songs.

Similarly with me, because he was 1 of my 5 and his system went before he could deactivate my account off it I lost 1 sharing ability. I in turn called SONY and after some talking and explaining what I wanted they deactivated all systems that had my account on it. I just spoke to my friends and they reactivated it on their systems again.

So when our friend here says the DRM is broken and that anybody will think twice about downloading songs my friend and my situations are "something" of a contrast to what he says. It may take some doing and granted it should be easier but it can be done to get them to help out.

Sony will reset your purchases when you ring up over the phone its EASY! Unlike Microshaft! Microshaft make you send a reciept and everything to them to transfer licenses. Well until they released that license tool but that only works once a year. At least 360 fanboys cant say anythin on this as EVERY SINGLE 360 ARCADE GAME HAS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!

Don't you just love the internet... A giant ball of goo where anyone can post a knee jerk reaction thinly veiled as 'journalism'. To hell with research, to hell with citing sources, to hell with credibility!!

I'm just going to trot over to Wikipedia and change the Singstar page to include this well reasoned and well justified piece of news about the 'broken' DRM in Singstar - EVERYONE should KNOW about THIS!! /sarcasm - for those unable to grasp the concept...
