PS3 probably won't see it, and I personally feel it won't need it.

If you didn't know, Microsoft patented over 5000 general ideas including cross game chat just so it doesn't make it to Sony PlayStation. Seriously, 5000 is overkill and if that doesn't smell like a monopoly, I'm not sure what it smells like than. This is why we won't see full support of custom in game music anytime soon.
Microsoft =/= innovation.

I hope the other two companies dont follow MS lead and start putting patents on everything. Nobody would get anywhere, nintendo was the first with rumble, sony the first with dual analog controllers on a console all of which are standard on all three systems. I love xbox but hate MS tactics. Kinda makes it hard for me to root for them when deep down i dont think their dominance will server the gaming community well at all

@cereal_killa: he refereing to the fact that MS patented the tech that allows the 360 games to receive those features via the Xbox 360 itself and if Sony cant use this its up to the devs to implement each individual feature per game...in other words if the devs doesn't include cross game chat or custom music when making the game you simply NEVER get it -_-

im the exact opposite i love private chatting if my ps3 ps3 had that my xbox would be my dust collector jk. But private chatting helps so much in getting friends in game but does no one else want game invite that can be sent to your xmb and you can join from your xmb mail box that and private chatting and id be so happy!

from my understanding, MS didn't patent cross game chat, they patented the way you do it. Sony just needs to find another way to achive it. Don't make excuses for Sony(unless they pay you for it),demand that they step it up. I think the custom tracks patent MS has is the same way,they patented how to do it, not the feature itself. This is all hear/say not anything official,so don't ask for evidence.If it's up to the game dev, let them know we need it. Theese are all features that should be standard in 2008 if we keep sying it doesn't matter they'll never get it.

i really wish...

sony would fix and add a few things before i can say im fully satisfy with psn period.

not for nothing but... i would love to see...

the ability to in game xmb and also play in game music, and the ability to send messages while im using the playstation store, seriously this needs to be address. i mean if i can do so while im browsing the net, while cant i do so while im browsing the ps store?

you see that above doesn't make much sense to me.

next i would love for sony to add a (sent to all recipients) or (all selected recipients) feature.

these/this feature/s should work with both voice and text messages.

and like i said before Cross chat & voice mail system.

now once these minor features and issues are address than ill keep my mouth shut and play my games a bit more often.

The PS3 already had PS2 backwards compatibility but it doesn't anymore with the newer models.

Plus, there's over 140 million PS2's sold out there and if they want to play PS2 games, they can just use their PS2's.... literally everyone that will want a PS3 sometime down the road already has a PS2.

Sony will most likely come out with a slimmer PS3 model sometime down the road because they did it with the PS1 and PS2, but a Slim PS3 isn't needed for the PS3's success.

The PS3 is getting plenty of JRPG's next year... I'm not sure if JRPG's are really that important to the PS3's success because the PS3 has sold more than double of what the 360 has in Japan and the 360 had way more JRPG's.

PS2 software BC is probably the most important feature the machine really needs imo.
I suspect my old trusty ps2 soon will kick the bucket and if I could play a game like SOTC upscaled with higher resolution and proper FSAA on a ps3 it would be really great.

you experience drop and lag on both systems, and from my experience i got more drop and lag on the xbox

Edit: how can you possibly disagree with someone else's experience? Nothing i have played on either system lagged more that DOA4, and Warhawk is the only game that lags for me on the playstation and i suspect that just cause of the recent update.

That's the spirit. However I think Sony may get in trademark problems if the PS3 could morph into a battle droid with Microsoft as in Transformers it was only the green console that became a decepticon. I reckon they could get away with it if the PS3 was a protective unit like a Terminator that protected your house while you slept; we live in dangerous times!

The PS3 needs a new display.
I don't mean the way it looks, but like, a sort of display that doesn't attract thumbprints and dust so regularly. Maybe even more PS1 games to buy at the Playstation store. Currently their selection sucks. And cross game chat is a good idea too.

my list:

1) PS2 games on the store, and more PS1 games
2) the rumored 'minority report'-style PS Eye XMB control (would LOVE!! this)
3) voice and video messaging, i know there's chat- but i'd like messaging
4) iTunes.... please!!! sorting out songs from my iPod on the XMB is a total pain
5) FIREFOX!!!!!! that would be awesome, Sony's browser is ok, but Firefox will always be the daddy

other than that i'd just like Sony to get those amazing-looking exclusives out as soon as possible- and keep on rolling with new one's!!!!

2) there aren't THAT many, buy a better HDD, they're not expensive

Buying a new controller is a choice, no one has to buy a new one the only difference with the controllers is rumble. Beside I believe that M$ is coming out with a new controller as well just to allow people to play fighter games betters so if your a fan of that you ll have the choice to either get a new one or play with the older one.

ps3: 256MB XDR Main RAM + 256MB GDDR3 VRAM = 512MB(and this is wat u get when u dont include how much ram the os on the ps3 usese)

x360: 10 MB of embedded DRAM + 512 MB of 700 MHz GDDR3 RAM = 520MB

Being the best Blu-ray player is the only feature selling PS3s.
