PS3 Afrika Finished 2nd on Japanese Sale Charts

Who would have thought? The quirky wild-animal-photography title Afrika is the runner-up for this week's Media Create Japanese sales charts, courtesy of Famitsu. It was beaten by a DS title called Rhythm Tengoku Gold, but Afrika still managed to sell a healthy 38,000 copies. The retail price for the title isn't cheap either, at 5,980 yen (about $56 USD), though many places are selling it for less.

I think they would have to release a demo before they released it here in the states. It looks interesting but alot people are unsure about Afrika.

I was so disappointed when I found out that AFRIKA wasn't going to involve guns/weapons. I was really hoping for it to be a hunting game. *thinks for a second* Hey! now that think about it we still get to hunt animals they just replace a rifle with a camera. This game may still be fun after all.

What I'm curious about is how are they expecting to recoup the development costs. Surely it must've cost more than 38 000 (even 100k) times 56$.

I mean the graphics alone should've cost a lot more to develop. I can only predict US and EU releases.

I think it's better off as a photography game but I do wish it would allow the player to ram the car into the animals.

sorry little Bob Marley moment there LOL

HHmmm Pokemon Snap but with REALLY great graphics.....maybe? Price would be a factor for this game, I expect it to be like
LINGER IN SHADOWS (which i can't wait for!) around $15 - $20 on PSN

4 - from what
i have read about this game, it sounds really interesting. Very life like. You start as a amateur photographer, and the better quality shots you take, the more gadgets and supplies (better) you have to buy, and the better pictures area available to you then. I think its a pretty sweet concept.

Japanese and chinese people love taking pictures, it's like crack to them. =D

The typical japanese/chinese steriotype on vacation is 3 exposable cameras around the neck and one ULTRA canon 4000 super-optic camera in thier hands just to make sure they won't spoil two valueble seconds of not taking any pictures. =D

j/k

and here i sit thinking about a few days ago when i was viewing this same very site, and how this was a flop.

well 38,000 isn't much but considering the nature of this game and how new it is, plus the lack of advertisement i think the game is doing good.

so far from what i can tell people in japan love things outside of 1st person shooters.

i mean they love metal gear, resident evil or should i say biohasard, rpg's of course fighting games, and photo games. and those adult oriented anime games. and even those little niche games like katamari, okami and such.

so im pretty convinced that little big planet will do good over there.

I'd personally love this title.!
I know many Americans prefer to shoot things, but most of the rest of the planet sees wildlfe and want to observe it, not kill it! :)

As a concept, it has enourmous appeal to me, but I do understand Sony's reluctance to release it anywhere but Japan. Jap gamers are more up for differnet concepts, in the west the bulk of consumers want action and huge drama, so many might be dissapointed by this.

I hope many will give it a try if it released though...

"Jap" is a racist slur for people of Japanese descent btw...

I'm sorry I don't accept that at all.

'Jap' is simply an abbreviation of 'Japanese' - in exactly the same way that 'Brit' is an abbreviation of 'British'. There is no racial slur implied or intended, and I've never known anyone to take offense. I would not be in the least offended to be refereed to as a 'brit', and I think it would be completely unreasonable to take offense.

I am of Finnish decent, I dont get offended when people refer to me as a "Finn".

Now add something like f**king to the front of the word and then it becomes a racial slur.

on topic. to me this game holds no interest.

If Sony had marketed the game, that 3 could very easily have been a 6. I really enjoyed AFRIKA, bit too short though, I'm on Spore now.

how short was it?

any replay value?

i assume that working with national geographic DLC content could be plentiful..

is it linear or open?
