Capcom Confirms Resident Evil 5 Controls Change

After the Microsoft Media Briefing, Takeuchi confirmed that RE5's new controls will be on the TGS showroom floor. While he didn't go into any great detail about the changes, he did refer to them as "Gears-like" controls.

1.1 - Huh (0_o)???
"So don't be surprised if at the Tokyo Game Show, the controls are different... I'm not confirming or denying anything, but we like to surprise people."

So what he's REALLY saying in not-so-many words is:

Don't be suprised if...but wait, we wanna surprise you, but...maybe you don't like surprises so...but, what if half of you DO want to be surprised?

Maybe if I just tell you that we don't know what we're doing, then YOU can decide if you wanna be surprised or not. Yeah, that'll work(^o^)b

This is a day one purchase for me but i hope they dont change the controls it to much.

Resident Evil has lost its horror side of things already and for me the controls were the only thing left which makes it feel like Resident Evil.
Thier changing it into a action game and losing its survial horror roots.

Im gunna get disagrees for this..

i hope so.. i know many other people liked the old controls, but i actually put me off the game.

i forced myself to play what i could, but i just didn't enjoy it that much wih the old controls. i still respect RE4 as a great game though.

i hope the changes do make it a more enjoyable game for everyone both for those who liked the old and those that didn't.

2.2 - I like the resi evil 4.......
Run and gun is standard, the tough control help induce panic and are what sets resi evil apart. you have to judge whether u can stand ur ground and commit to fight or retreat then take on the enemies, its adds tactics to the game.

A little more Gears would be nice. I prefer those over the RE4 controls. But I will still be getting this game either way.

I guess with this generation of consoles and all the enemies that can be rendered on screen at once that you can't fend them all off if you have to stop to shoot.

Run and gun ... or at least walk / strafe and gun would seem logical.

6 - Don't think it will be run and gun...
And I would like an option to use RE4 controls too.

7 - bioshock
how so?

Gears used ideas of RE4, now RE will use the similar controls to gears. Besides its about the feel of it and gears control scheme worked best. I think epic said awhile go that they got that type of control scheme from COD, but did it in 3rd person. since both games use the L trigger to aim and right to shoot.

What in the blue hell? I've never played Gears at all, so it's going to be a big difference from the past Resident Evils. It's going to take a lot to actually make me buy the game. The only Resident Evil games I would pay for again are Resident Evils 1,2,3:Nemesis.

10 - Good news for me.
I do have to admit though, Gears controls takes away from the scare factor. Having a limited control scheme tends to make tight areas scarier. Take Siren for instance, it's the controls that make that game freaky at times. I like the Gears controls but am afraid that this might turn RE into a simple zombie shooter. Makes no difference to me, I am still buying this title.

I'm not buying this game at all.

Things I do not want in a Resident Evil game:

1. Run and gun gameplay
2. Co-op

Seriously, I wonder what else they can bring out to annoy me?

I agree completely. This goes to the old adage that some people can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Most gamers can't think and play at the same time so obviously the control scheme has to be the problem. So this is next-gen where everyone wants the same game every couple months with a little palette swap and script change. I will say it before and I will say it again when you cater the masses you cater to the lowest common denominator.

I would have liked co-op with the old control scheme if it was done correctly, but I guess we will just have to wait and see.

So really RE5 controls like a game it inspired.

Please, please add strafe.

RE4 might very well be one of the best games ever made but the controls killed it for me. They just didn't cut it anymore. Having to wall blindly into a doorway or around a corner, stop, turn and then see if anything is waiting you is pathetic. Human beings can walk sideways. The game doesn't have to be Gears, I just want to strafe and maybe even move while I'm shooting.

I think they're doing everything in their power to make sure this game doesn't scare or make anyone uncomfortable.

I think they should give you the opportunity to choose or do both...It would be interesting to see what the gameplay changes would be then.

Still, a victory for common sense. The casuals would never go for last gen 3rd person controls.
