AFRIKA: Sony to Debut Photo-Realistic Game

"Sony is hoping that the game, called Afrika, will impress players with its advanced graphics. The developers, who spent nearly four years creating the game -- including two visits to Africa -- packed a fictitious national park with photo-realistic zebras, elephants, lions and dozens of other exotic animals."

Well you see HERE'S the problem; the game isn't coming out in the US or UK, so that's the reason why there isn't much hype. Sony should release the game in both of those areas, then you will see some hype. The game looks good though.

LOL. this is seriously a huge letdown , has anyone seen the gameplay videos? horrible, horrible graphics. farcry 2 looks way better, is in africa, AND has animals which you can then run over or shoot :D

You cant call the gameplay horrible, just because you want to run over and shoot animals instead of take photos doesnt give you the right to call it horrible.

P.S farcry 2 looks awful compared to this.

Afrika is Family Friendly. In another word, this is not a hunting game. it is a relaxing games.

No my vision is fine, ive seen the HD trailers of far cry and the jaggies, and Ive seen the HD trailers of Afrika and the brilliant landscape. Compare them and you can see afrika is better.

Why are there all these articles about Afrika on N4G? If it's not being released anywhere besides Japan, I DON'T WANT TO SEE IT. Nothing against Japan, but these articles are a big tease about a game I wish I could own.

definitely worth a second look.

i'm interested to see the videos to see what it's about.

I like Sony trying out something totally different.... I could see my dad, who loves national geographic but never touches video games, try this out

I like variety too... obviously.

BUT if I had to chose, i'm a gamer, and my fav games are more hardcore, Halo 3, Gears... and Mass Effect (which I just finished last night and was fckin awesome!!!!!)

When blockbusters like God of War 2, GT5, and KZ2 release, and the reviews are good, then I got more than just one reason to buy a ps3.... then I can let me dad check out Africa :)

All I know, is that when I saw a video of the Savanah or plains, the grass was just one big flat blurry green texture...yeah it's photo real, or rather, comprised of photographs of real stuff and then textured onto 3d objects like terrain...

it isnt a high action game
it is family friendly
it isnt about the landscape
it is about the rather well rendered animals
it isnt for everybody
it is for people who want something different

im tired of the if its not combat i dont want it attitude
if you want shooting dont comment on it

its not gears its not mgs4
its not halo

it is like pokemon snap
and it is worthy of attention due to the fact its trying something differeent

I seen some footage that looked pretty good but I also seen a lot of footage that looked like ps2 grapics. If your trying to make a game in Africa than you should be able to see the beauties of the environment. I mean the cell is powerful enough to render at least a few grass blades or trees and not just a big yellow/green ground, right?

Oh on a side note, Africa is not the first next gen title that has you taking pictures. The 360 takes that crown........it's called Dead Rising. :D

Sony should at least throw this on Global PSN @ $30 and make a few million dollars. I would buy it. Especially if they had a mode that would be like a screen saver for my HDTV that you could unlock via completion of the game. It could be a bird that flies around Africa as the camera follows, or something.

I'm pretty sure that Afrika won't do well in any other countries besides Japan, most user probably won't find it fun, except for the Japanese culture (somehow?). I guess sony just doesn't want to use any resource at all and not waste money.

Looks kind of weird and unfun to me,no action, BUT I can see how others can like this game, it's relaxing, informative, and somewhat beautiful.

People who say this game dont look good, or not photo-realistic obvious not seen a recent trailer/video of the game. Or, they are a M$ fanboy and are simply hating the game for no good reason.

Closest game I've seen that renders animals realisticly...
