Source: GTA IV DLC to launch in "January or February" next year

Yea, but the correct abbreviation would have been LCFD (Liberty City Fire Department)... Just like LCPD (Liberty City Police Department). I highly doubt it was just a 'typo'.

No matter what the downloadable content is it wasn't worth 50 million dollars. Now Rock Star has to satisfy Microsoft with this add-on that Microsoft was promising on day one. This was the whole reason why XBOX 360 bought the XBOX 360 version, for the added content. To me I think the downloadable content won't be as great as Microsoft made it out to be.

It would be another Halo 3, meaning it's a solid purchase, but the hype was too high on the pedestal to achieve.

By the time this DLC comes out people will have forgotten about it because there are too many great games coming out by then. I just wished MS would have saved that money and spent it on making a new IP atleast.

I agree, I think the DLC was over rated and I certainly didn't think it would be coming out next year. However I feel Microsoft are NOT wrong saying it will be out this year. Knowing Microsofts past actions this DLC WILL come out this year and be heavily rushed.

yup. i'm going tomorrow to trade my gta4 in for lbp. i can still get 28 bucks for it. and i think 28 for metal gear. pretty much pays for littlebigplanet. then i'll just fork over the 60 for socom + mic. and i'll be set till R2 hits. all that ftw

the advantage MS used this DLC for is already gone...it was to keep the 360 in line with the PS3 during the launch window of GTAIV...

50 million dollars...for some addon content to what is arguably the least appealing GTA game of this decade...

that was more money than what it cost to create both Gears of War 1, Unreal Tournament 3, and Gears of War 2...plus a signficant chunk of the development time incorporated into making Unreal Engine 3 (which was rumored to be close to 30 million total...with Gears of war 1 being confirmed by Epic to have an operating budget of 10 million...and gears 2 being 'near that'...

that is as much money as Sony pumped into Killzone 2...that is nearly what Konami invested in MGS4...and that is roughly half of what it cost to make the entire GTAIV game to begin with...

on paper...it looks like an absolutely garbage decision...they could make several ridiculously good AAA titles for that amount of money, assuming they all used UE3 (which, since its the 360, they would anyway)...but I'm sure MS was hoping on a lot of intangible assets coming their way because of it...they definitely won't make their money back on the downloads themselves, but it went a long way to push the 360 version over the PS3 version last April...in sales at least...not so much for the hardware...who knows, its nearly impossible to tell if it was a good or bad decision...if this was the bribe that put GTAIV day and date with the PS3 version...it was definitely a good decision, because without it...the 360 would be in a lot more trouble than it currently is...

4 - DLC for GTA4...
...should just be allowed to come out when it comes out. I actually think MS should've never mentioned it in the first place. I know it's part of their marketing plan to get people excited about the 360 version but it was just too much of a gamble and somewhat indefinite. We all knew it was coming out but if they didn't know for certain they shouldn't said anything. I feel MS should have waited until the DLC was about to be released and then announced it.

I have friends that bought the 360 version for DLC as well as people who bought the PS3 because they didn't care about the DLC. Most of them no longer even have a copy of the game anymore so its not relevant for them...BUT the DLC is still relevant MS because people still have to purchase it, so that's money in the bank for them.

They could've planned the marketing a bit better.

By the time the DLC comes out I think I'm going to be too busy playing Fable 2 and Gears 2 on my 360 to even care about GTA IV DLC...on top of PS3 games I'll be playing too by that time

.......Unless it's a whole new map that blows me away...then maybe I'll check it out lol

Not surprised to see tons of PS3 fanboys trying to downplay something that's exclusive for the 360. We don't even know what it's about yet.

We will probably see this behaviour repeat when Fallout 3 drops as well. No matter how good the game is some sad creatures will say it's overhyped and overrated just because the PS3 doesn't get the exclusive dlc.

I own a 360 and I could give a rats a$$ about this DLC. I think if MS would have brang it out right about now I would have bought it since my copy of GTA4 is sitting there collecting dust but no they want us to wait until 2009 when by that time, there will be way too many great games for me to even bother going back to even thinking of GTA4.

Same goes with Bioshock for the ps3, it also has exclusive DLC but I am already satisfied with the game I have already played on the 360 and I just dont feel like that exclusive DLC will even bother me now since the game is old news.

I just cant see why people would want this DLC when games like Gears 2, Fable 2, Tales of V, Fallout 3, and many other games come out are going to keep them busy and having tons of fun.

U really think people will care when games like Gears 2, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other big games on the 360 is out, anyone will care? Maybe the die hard GTA fans but seriously man the DLC isnt nuttin special. Oh and im not speaking for everyone but at the same time, as a 360 owner myself, I been playing GTA games since it first came out and once I beat the game and am done with it, I usually never go back to play it again, especially when there are tons of other better games out there.

Well its obvious, MS probably knows about this. Think about it, MS has not announced any 09 exclusives hitting very early, this is their early 09 exclusive just as Sony has Killzone 2 in February.

air plans,jet packs,flamethrowers,chainsaws, parasutes,new mind blowing map that have mountains and country side places,more cars,bikes,jet skis,golf carts,tanks,brass knucels,satchel charges,police bikes,dodo's,miniguns,gore,bul ldozers,etc....

MS did some questionable moves in the past, but when you hand 50M$ to a company, you probably back yourself with contractual obligations.

I bet that some of the most popular features from previous iterations of GTA that were axed from GTA IV have gone missing to be included in these exlusive DLC. Flame thrower, killing frenzy, jet packs...
maybe a 5th burrough , A different or parallel story line.

The question is, will you need the original disc to play the DLC? or will it be stand alone? if it is a stand alone game for 10-20$
That might be a steal and prove worthy to buy a 200$ X360 to use that 2nd HDMI input on that HDTV for PS3 owners.

Actually the GTA fanbase is larger on the PS3 as it pushed more hardware for Sony. Total software sales on a unit that has more hardware units in living rooms is pointless. I do agree that Rockstar as a bit of loyalty to Sony.

last I heard gta4 on 360 outsold the ps3 version (due to install base) by 2:1. Pushing hardware with sales is great, but that doesn't mean that the fanbase is larger...not sure how you made that connection

so why is the fanbase for gta higher on ps3?

I remember a few months back, Rockstar released a statement saying that the GTA4 DLC for the 360 was delayed until early 2009, and I guess it's going to stay that way if this end's up being true.

Personally I think that the DLC should have been released for GTA4 no more than 3 or 4 months after the release of the game because by early 2009 or late 2008, not as many people will even care about the GTA4 DLC, but of course some people will download it, just not as many people.
