Source: "Brand new" Rockstar IP "may never see light of day"

Speaking under conditions of strict anonymity to VG247 this morning, a source close to the matter has said that Rockstar North is working on a "brand new IP."

Cryptically, the spy added: "It's not 100 percent sure it'll ever see light of day, anyway."

The article clearly states that they do not know whether or not it is the (as of yet) unannounced PS3 exclusive title or if it's another new IP they came up with.

5 - what's the point?
maybe they are planning on finishing it and find a willing publisher or something? but this is not Ghostbusters, which just recently became publisher-less! developing a game cost money, so it doesn't make sense that they are on to something but have no plan to release it! but concept arts for the search of new ideas are possible though

8 - There is a ps3 exclusive coming from rockstar....
Dont know what it is but we all know rockstar does have a ps3 exclusive on there list.

Also wanted to note, anyone else see GTA4 as a failure compared to san andreas in sales? I mean the numbers no doubt of GTA4 are good but I really think alot of the GTA fans who owned a ps3 just didnt buy it this time around seeing that it wasnt timed exclusive. I mean I look at san andreas sales compared to GTA4 and san andreas outsells it by a large margine. Its like u could almost guarantee that if it was timed exclusive the ps3 version would have sold double the ammount it has sold now.

I dont know im just looking at the whopping 23 million + sales san andreas sold compared to GTA4.

I take it you didn't take into account that when SA came out there were well over 100 million console users with a console that could run GTA SA ?

This time round there are barely half the number of users COMBINED that have a console capable of running GTA 4. I personally think the numbers are fairly decent for the customer base that exists. Not everyone is going to spend $300 - $400 to play GTA 4

I can't say I was all that pleased with GTA 4 myself (and I was one of the idiots that bought a console just for this game). However to go GTA 4 isn't as successful as GTA SA when there isn't even half the number of customers out there to buy the game is a bit silly.

10 - This is the IP Jack said would be a trade off for GTA going multi
I forget where this was posted I think it was a youtube video. Anyway, in this video Jack explained that Sony made a choice to either try and keep GTA a ps3 exclusive and lose this new IP as exclusive, or let GTA go multi and get this new IP as an exclusive.

I don't remember where this shown but It bought back that memory of an interview with Jack and GTA going multi.

This next link caught my attention but isn't the interview I'm talking about.

"As part of our long standing relationship with Rockstar, and the incredible success for both companies with the cultural icon that is Grand Theft Auto, we’ve agreed to the PlayStation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios."

Apparently, Sony did get an exclusive deal and this trade off might've taken place. I wish I knew where a link was that had Jack making that statement in an interview.

Anything that has Rockstar attatched to it has to raise an eyebrow, even if you didn't understand some of their previous work!

@ GTA 4 Haters: GTA 4 was great in my opinion... I don't know what some of you were expecting! What... did you want another GTA game that you could basically run through and sit and shoot people until you got bored... Not me... I loved the more realistic approach, and hope the future games follow this blueprint. For the arcadey mindless version with unbelievable things to do... I'll go with saint's row 2, which I plan on buying upon release!
