VG247: Despite a complete no-show for Home in the Sony press conference at Games Convention last week, SCEE president David Reeves has moved to assure punters that the social app's development is completely on track, and that its open beta will begin this autumn as planned.

So, despite the fact that SEGA no longer knows how to make a good game...you're supporting them? They're creativity died with Sonic. Even Sonic Adventure isn't that great. It's strange that they really say very little about it and it is coming out within months. I know he is saying there isn't really much to report, but toss the press a bone now and then. If they are 100% it will arrive in '08, why not say that at E3 or GC?

because they already gaves a release date the last year, saying it was coming Fall 07... and look at your calendar right now. Summer 08 and not even an open beta. They don't want to do the same mistake, giving a date and make pressure on the devs and get excitation from the gamers. So saying "its on track" and will come in 2008 for sure is already a good news. We'll probably see an open beta before christmas.

Right, the point of a beta is to shake out more bugs, so having a beta right at release time gives you no time to fix the bugs.

Like an MMO though, they can patch this thing as often as they want while it is live. Just don't want a ton of bugs showing up early on.

I can nearly guarantee you that Home will be in a constant beta. They are basically releasing Home. Look at Gmail. It's still in beta, because it's constantly evolving. Home should be very similar, so it's not like it matters when the beta comes out because it's *basically* the full deal.

At least that's how I see it.

8 - More important than its release date...

Is whether or not it will provide the functinality that the PS3 needs. If voice-chatting with your friends and setting up games to play together (read: play on the same team in Resistance 2 through Home) become easy for the average user, Home will indeed become the new hub for online gaming.

But if it becomes a MMO socializing client to meet/chat with people and show off trophies, but doesn't help at all toward playing the latest games together (and I'm not talking about those lame pool games), then this will become the biggest flop in recent gaming history.

Forget Haze, Lair, Too Human and GTA4. The word "overhyped" will be tagged with images of HOME for future gaming generations to laugh at.

And Sony's brand-image as a gaming company will be tarnished for the next two generations. They'll basically become the Nintendo of the 90s. Co(ky, clueless and disgraced...

I hope it doesn't happen. For the sake of the future of this industry... I pray that they'll prove themselves once again. But it's a very long shot.

Of course it'll help with getting games together. They have spaces dedicated to games just so people can go there and talk specifics / group up. Also, the way it works (iirc) is that you group up, then launch the game straight from Home. There's no way gamers won't use that feature if they're using Home at all.

1 - I'll take the statement from the real lead developer that was reported in the site earlier...

More seriously, hearing the statements that if we don't have a free accessible DL movie service in the EU...we can use Bittorent or the other statement about having Europe wait until things are ironed out properly makes me just not believe words coming out this guy over anyone else involved in SCE.

Why the disagree? I just don't like the attitude and stupid quotes from this guy in SCE...I seriously DO believe Home is coming out soon and least of all, since the Home team has mentioned its almost ready; I just don't trust a word out of David Reeves from the press mouth in recent times, he's a truly horrible rep for PR for SCE in the EU.

I live in the UK, adore my PS3 more than my 360 and the quotes that Mr Reeves has come out with in the recent past are words of an true idiot.
Anyone else SCE yes. but David Reeves has no idea how to talk responsibly to the press without causing pointless controversy.

Things are getting much better relating to simultaneous game releases and PSN games and features.
So I guess he must be doing his job but he has NO idea how to keep his mouth shut to the press about certain things and gives people dumb answers back to things that people never even originally asked about.

weather you like that comment or not, it is 100% true. There is more Piracy in Europe than all the other region. Why more Piracy in Europe? Simple, because a lot more game get banned in Europe than any other places. And the only way to play those games is to mod your system, and download the game.
