SoulCalibur IV - Limited Edition content arrives at a high price

More costume content has arrived on the Live Marketplace, setting you back 200 points. The download is 108KB and therefore is most likely already contained on the disk. It's actually only some of the Limited Edition content so be warned. Namco is obviously attempting to fleece the fans.

This is what happens when DLC goes wrong.

Sometimes DLC can be very right, like what happened with Burnout Paradise: A year's worth of updates coming, all of them should be free. They basically tripled the game's initial size as of right now.

4 - Total rip off
This is only part of the content that came with the LE version (five items in total). 200 points is like £2.00.

Stuff that's on the disc but needs to be bought in order to be used = BULLSH'T.

6 - Unless the content
includes more characters, levels or new modes? Namco can keep it.

7 - Hmmm...
...may get it anyway when it appears on the PS Store (that would equate to, what, 2 bucks, possibly?). If they priced it at about 5 or 10 bucks I would be able to see the issue in that, but c'mon...2 bucks...do we b!tch about paying 99 cents for a song on iTunes, as well?

Though I see the good point about having to pay for stuff on the disc (albeit it was only an assumption made by the site, not a confirmed fact, though it's a damn GOOD assumption). You shouldn't have to, but still, 2 bucks (assuming it's even THAT) isn't as bad as it looks.

"but c'mon...2 bucks...do we b!tch about paying 99 cents for a song on iTunes, as well"

Not saying this applies to everybody......but I think that I would get more use out of 99 cent song that I can listen to at home, in my car...and just on the go in general.........where this $2.00 package is pretty much only good when I am playing the game. Now while I got the limited edition to begin with......I think it is hard to equate the DLC with that of a song.

Well, I know that opinion isn't going to be too popular, but it's just what I think: People are really too cheap when it comes to this stuff. If you got enough money to buy the game, you make enough money to get a few things of DLC if it's as low as this is (this is why I don't get the hatred of Rock Band DLC: You get alot for what you pay). People were so unhappy about having to buy horse armor, but it didn't cost that much (less than a RB DLC track pack), so I was wonder why were we b!tching (people wanted it, but didn't want to pay for it).

Also, though the stuff may very well be on the disc anyway, this article had no right in just writing that point as fact.

only 5 female items? No thanks. I find that I like my female characters with as little items as possible. Thanks.

See, the first wave of DLC didn't bother me. Sure, it was close to the game's release which beckons the question "why the hell wasn't this on the disc when I bought the game?", but it's one of those "don't like it, don't have to buy it" situations. This is different, I've technically already purchased this content, and now they want me to pay for what already IS on the disc. Incredible.

You people fail at logic.
The content needs to be on the disk, so that everyone has it when you play online. If the content wasn't on the disk, you'd have to download endless patches which do nothing (unless you pay for the content to be unlocked). I don't understand, there seems to be more than enough costume parts in the game, like 30+ characters, and different game modes. Just because you *could* have something on top of that, doesn't mean you need it to fully enjoy the game, and it's not like not having this extra costume parts is going to ruin your experience. Have you guys even played this game? It's off the hook!
cheers

It is you who fails at logic. If Crackdown and Test Drive Unlimited have the ability to share, and show paid content without the DLC being on the disc, why should Soulcalibur? A patch isn't that big of a deal.

10.2 - Yeah, patches aren't a big deal.
The Motorstorm patches included DLC content so that people who hadn't purchased/unlocked it yet could see new vehicles during matches.

£2.00 per five items and there are over 350 in the game as standard. If you were to break down the 350 items into groups of 5 based on the same economic scale and charge £2 for each group of five items, how much would the cost of the game be... £140 - That's almost $300 for Americans. This is also not including the actual game mechanics itself.

Namco's business model is really not giving a monkeys about the fans of the game, and is playing on the number of casuals who don't look at the bigger picture when they say that £2.00 is a small price to pay.

12 - Oh my god!
I don't know who's going to pissed off more. The people who bought the normal edition and are getting fleeced (content on the disc already? wtf?) or the people who spent so much money on the special edition.

There needs to be a policy against this kind of behavior from developers and publishers.

13 - Meh
If you don't want it, don't buy it. I love SC4. If the content sounds good enough (like the last $1.49 CDN) I'll buy it. If not, screw it. That simple. Good game.

I want more Star Wars characters. I mean they go though the trouble of adding the Star Wars universe to Soul Calibur and only have 3 characters. Lets see some Darth Maul!

Plus, I would like to create characters with the lightsaber and SW cloths.

19 - Huh?
If the content is on the disk, why are they trying to sell it to me? That totally defeats the purpose of downloadable content. I don't care if it is "only" 2 bucks. I shouldn't be nickeled and dimed to death for content I already purchased and have a right to use.
