Nielsen: 17% of GTA IV Purchasers Underage - They also found episodic content on 360 swayed some buyers

Gamedaily.biz writes: "The folks at Nielsen Games have released a new report on Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV, which looks at reasons for purchase, platform preference and perhaps most interestingly the ability for minors to get their hands on the controversial title. In fact, Nielsen found that 17 percent of respondents in their survey who had purchased GTA IV were between the ages of seven and 16.

Elsewhere in the Nielsen report, the company found that Microsoft's exclusive episodic GTA content (coming this fall) did have some sway on consumers, with 25 percent of those who purchased the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV citing the extra content as a deciding factor. 64 percent said they simply prefer the Xbox 360 over the PS3."

Told you so.

Glad I bought the best version and have more GTA goodness to look forward too.

Honest question

Will the DLC even matter?

I don't think it will unless it comes out before October. With Fable II and Gears II, I doubt people will even care about the DLC.

---
On topic: It doesn't matter if this 17% broke the law. According to the U.S. Attorney General, not every violation of the law is a crime.

Seeing as he never specified what broken laws constitute a crime, I'm going to say that this isn't a crime.

It probably was a deciding factor for many but it seems the excitement died down. Apart from this article, have anyone seen any other article regarding the GTA IV DLC lately? And who is actually still interested in buying it?

As good as I felt GTA IV was, it didn't have anywhere remotely close to the depth of GTA San Andreas. After I finished GTA IV, I found myself leaving the game on the shelf. There was just too little interactivity with the world.

17% is still better than COD4, which is like 75% 12 year olds

I'm not surprised to hear that 17% of people that bought GTA4 were underage... I remember I was 16 when San Andreas first came out and I walked into Gamestop and they let me buy it with no questions asked... I had went to Best Buy earlier that same day and tried to buy San Andreas but they didn't let me because I was underage.

As far as people being swayed to buy the Xbox 360 version just because of DLC, personally I think that the people that were swayed into buying GTA4 for the 360 because of the DLC were current 360 owners that had PS3's and not new 360 console owners.... Too bad GTA4 sucked and by the time the DLC comes out for it, not many people will care about it... by the time I unlocked the 3rd Island in GTA4 I got bored with it and never finished the game and haven't even put the game in my PS3 since the end of May.

The GTA IV exclusive DLC is starting to become like Alan Wake. No one knows where it's at.

10 - DLC is too late
No one cares anymore about this very weak game. Just too repetitive, over hyped, over rated and rubbish. If they had DLC for this title, they should have released it almost immediatly and not held on to it for 6 months. Too late they missed the train.

11 - I was in gamestop the other day
and a little kid was trying to get GTA, the staff member said he wasn't aloud so he ran and got daddy. The staff tried to explain to daddy why it is rated for adults but daddy didn't care it'll mean gta will keep the kid occupied so daddy doesn't have to look after him. I take my hat of to responsible parents but the majority of this 17% is from irresponsible parents in my opinion
