GTA IV PC to enable cross platform PC-360 online play?

Maxconsole writes: "Rockstar games has updated the Official GTA IV website and it is now carrying a Games for Windows LIVE logo. This has sparked speculation that GTA may soon allow for cross platform play between PC and Xbox 360 and the PC may also be receiving the delayed 'exclusive' Xbox 360 GTA IV DLC..."

Ouch. I gave up on it for about a month but, at the urging of a close friend, I picked it up again. Story took off like a runaway train and I was left floored at how good the game got. I tried multiplayer once and just prefered COD4 but I don't think the game was crappy. Underwhelming...probably. Not worth the 10s? Certainly. But crappy...that's a stretch

I completed GTAIV on the 360 and I don't think it was a very good game. I wanted to stop 2/3rds of the way through but I do my best to always finish what I start. I have zero interest in playing GTAIV online. I tried it and hated it. I am slightly interested in the DLC if it ever comes out. Hopefully it will be worth the wait and not over priced. I am holding on to my copy until I know what the DLC consist of.

GTA IV + PC = Mods
Mods + GTA = Fun time.

Hope this clears why this is such a big deal for the game, some developer may just bring a little san andreas into this lacking title.

The whole series has been like that since it went 3D. Everytime you get going super fast pop-ins and low frame rates. Dev's don't seem to understand that consistant frame rates are a very high priority in properly releasing a game.

I've never played the game on a PC though, maybe with a high end machine the frame rate problem is something you don't have to worry about.

Frame rate's not a problem in GTA on the PC. The games all run pretty well on old hardware, but I guess that's a given since the game's graphics are fairly simplistic. I find it kind of odd that San Andreas runs at 80 to 100 FPS on my 8800 GTS 512, though, since I get 300+ FPS in Half-Life 2.

I really cannot see them implementing crossplay between the PC and 360. It would be an unmitigated slaughter of 360 users. The only way they could do it is if they gimped the PC control system which would put most PC gamers off doing cross play then anyway.

There have been a fair few windows live games that didn't do crossplay so just because GTA 4 is windows live does not mean it will have crossplay. Besides who cares the PC is getting GTA 4 damn I can't wait.

not strictly true there are various games that have allowed crossplay. The most recent example was shadowrun which enabled crossplay between PC's and 360's. However it is difficult to implement because of the two very different control structures.

The fact the PC uses a mouse and keyboard is also one of the reasons why Sony's "The Agency" will not have crossplay between PC's and PS3's. It is difficult to implement in away as to not give either side an advantage.

Everyone was pretty happy with GTA4 except Sony fans. They were pissed it wasnt exclusive. They were pissed when they got the inferior version of the game. GTA is now a casual game to some of them because it was announced for DS. I'm sure GTA deserved all those great reviews it got. It's just Sony fans want to play every game that isnt exclusive down and want you to think its crap. Final Fantasy was their next big game and look what happened when it went to 360. It suddenly became a crap game not worth the time of some PS3 owners.

People were upset with the game because they fell for the pre-release hype. Everyone built this game up in their minds as the best thing ever and then they were disappointed when it didn't deliver everything they thought it should have. Erase all of the hype and take the game at face value and it is good. Go into it expecting the best experience ever and it doesn't live up to that.

ReBurn - that's a good point, but maybe if Rockstar hadn't promised so much and delivered so little, it wouldn't have been an issue.

It's not a bad game, just a lot shallower than it should have been and the inital impact doesn't hold up for the rest of the game.

If it was reviewed again, by the same journalists, I highly doubt it would get close to the number of 10s. The initial impact earned those scores, not lasting appeal.

If there's any game that did not deserve the 10s it got, it is MGS4, not GTA4. MGS4 is the most disappointing non-game I've played that was hyped to the heavens. But Sony fans prefer to put down GTA4 for obvious reasons.

is not even that great of a game to begin with! it's a dissapointment and everybody knows it! it's a step backward from what GTA series had been and R* has succeeded in extracting FUN from the game itself! even MP is boring and this applies for both 360 and PS3! proof? it's only on top of XBL most played game for a short while and who knows at what number it is right now! hell 360 owners went back to play Halo3 rather than GTAIV! on PS3, it was forgotten straight away after MGS4! 360 owners are waiting for the exclusive DLC and that's about it! for PS3 owners, they moved on as GTAIV is just another dissapointment!

R* clearly knows that the 360 is the best, so they made it the lead platform, are giving it DLC bigger than Vice City and San Andreas, and cross platform PC-360 online play.

no R* knows that money makes better game so they took 50 million bucks just so they would give u what idk ms didnt talk about there dlc for gta during e3 which wasnt that going to help sell systems, nope it didnt, R* is just laughing at ms for giving them all that money that will only cost them like 2 million to make(maybe) haha

Are people even playing this online? Or even playing GTA 4 anymore? The only fun thing to do on gta is is play free roam with your friends. 360rxorz your really dumb. You act as if this is the 2nd coming. Its not even confirmed, and who cares? This game isn't even that great. Really over hyped gets boring in an hour.
