Fallout 3 Trophy support remains uncertain

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at a recent roundtable interview in London, Bethesda Softworks vice president Pete Hines was unable to confirm if its upcoming post apocalyptic RPG Fallout 3 would feature PS3 Trophy support.

"I don't know. I can't tell you for sure whether or not we'll have them or not," said Hines.

It's a different story regarding Xbox 360 Achievements though, with Hines confirming that they are "mostly complete".

"... we still like to mess with that stuff sometimes in late stages, just in terms of 'yeah it's taking a little too long to get this one', which is why we didn't want anybody to look at them, because I wouldn't want you guys putting something out that we then changed and is completely different," said Hines. "Yeah, they're largely in there and there's some really good ones in there... some that I rather enjoy."

That's the only possible chance to pick up the game at launch... the trophies. After the "EXCLUSIVE" DLC fiasco on the PS3 version I made up my mind and takes the decision to wait for a price drop on the game. So Bedestha fail on me on both side(DLC and Trophies) and I'm going to wait for price drop EVEN if the game receive trophies on time for the launch day =P

1.1 - well at least
you're sticking to your Guns. I'm trolling, and will say I'm surprised at the feedback of achievements/trophies from everyone. I really don't think its that big of a deal.

The bigger deal is the fact that the PS3 keeps getting gimped versions of games. How is it that M$ is able to secure exclusive content all the time. How is sony letting this happen. Has there been one SIMULTANEOUS multi-platform release where the PS3 has gotten more content?

Sony isn't in the business of paying 50 mil for DLC that doesn't affect console sales.

3rd party devs aren't Sony's interest, they'd rather take that 50 mil and pump it into 1st party exclusives, which are the actual system sellers.

Also, I don't think many people look at a game and think "hmm this one lets me pay more down the line for some content. Yeah that seems pleasant." At least my friends and I don't look at it that way.

Honestly there is no excuse for any game releasing this holiday season to not have trophy support.

That depends on how much time it takes to add them, I'm sure they would not want to delay the game because of trophies.

Achievements + exclusive DLC + probably better graphics = the version to get.

Probably better graphics? Uhhh no. If the game ships with trophies, the only benefit the 360 version will have over the PS3 will be the exclusive DLC. The PC version will be the best version anyway.

PS3 owners need to bombard Bethesda w/ emails to ensure it happens. They need to watch the sales of SSHD, PJ Eden, and Uncharted to see what the inclusion of trophies will do for their game.

Superior Version? Yeah the PC version. lol

However I'm gonna go on a limb here and say I believe the 360 and PS3 graphics will be identical.

Just look at Oblivion, Bethesda knows how to develop for the PS3. The 360 version was 1024x600 resolution and had glitches and frame rate problems. While the PS3 version is 1280x720 resolution with a more stable framerate and less glitches.

Though of course, they said they had more time optimizing for the PS3 version.

But that still will support my case in believing that the PS3 and 360 version of Fallout 3 will be graphically equal. If not, only minor differences.

We've heard that before, the end result usually comes out different.

And what are you referring to? If the PS3 version looks like a PS2 game, you get a cookie. But if they look identical or has only minor differences, then you don't get a cookie.

3.6 - I'm pretty sure
Oblivion looked no less than the same on both consoles with the PS3 version running better until the 360 version was patched. Same development staff here, so your fanboy comments hold no water in this argument.

So, will the PS3 version of Fallout 3 be released 1 year later than the 360 version? As with Oblivion.

3.8 - Your futile attempts at humor
and sad fanboy comments show you have no clue as to what you are talking about. As developers get more experience with a platform (many are) they learn how to better use it. Bethesda made a solid game out of Oblivion on the PS3. It ran better (when it was released) than the 360 version. Yes, they had year to work on it (seeing that the 360 was out for a year before the PS3 launched) so it's easy to see why there was a year difference. (Shipped on 03/21/06 for 360, 03/20/07 for PS3) The 360 launched on 11/25/05, PS3 November 17, 2006(US). The game came out on the same basic timetable as it pertains to each system's launch.

So basically, what I am saying is GTFO fanboy. Bethesda are good dev's and the PS3 360 technical spec's/performance will be pretty much the same.

Its about 14 megabytes to add trophy support and itll just boost sales.

They found time to implement Achievements. There is no excuse for not implementing trophies. Regardless of whether Sony is making it mandatory or not, there is no excuse for implementing the system on one side and not the other for any games that have yet to be released.

MS standing next to the devs, waves with hand and says: "You don't like adding trophies in PS3 game, it's too much work creating 20-30 2D icons." :)

Edit: predator therefor i don't see why is there a problem for devs lately implementing throphies, when it is the same effort as with the achievements...

Actually they only have to make 3-4 2D icons. Look at Uncharted and SSHD. All the bronze trophies are identical, and the same with the silver and gold.

8 - Most gamers imo would feel the same way about this.
That most games coming out this holiday season just don't have an excuse not to have trophie support. Yeah yeah a dev might say that it's going to delay a game blah blah blah but no gamer would believe something like that because adding something so simple (to us) wouldn't make sense no matter how hard they say it is.

Since the xbox 360 version is getting exclusive DLC. And you know that Bethesda is going to deliver when it comes to DLC. Olivion total downloads gave you about another 100 hours of gameplay. You can not beat that. When comes to paying 60 dollars you want your money worth. PS3 may look and load better like Oblivion did, but Xbox 360 version of Fallout 3 will give you the total package, because of DLC.
