Bethesda confirms Fallout 4

Hines on picking a lead dev machine - and Fallout 4

Bethesda's Peter Hines has explained why the software giants behind Oblivion and the forthcoming Fallout 3 use the Xbox 360, rather than PC or PlayStation as their main development platform.

Hines, who was in London to show off the mighty fine looking Fallout 3, told TechRadar that the Xbox 360 was very much Bethesda's lead machine on the title.

Fallout 4 comment is at the bottom. Interesting that they are so adamant that the DLC is Xbox and PC only - who bets that it will appear on the PS3 6 months down the line? :)

So have they just given up on the Elder Scrolls? I would like to see more of that series.

2.1 - thye hinted at a new elder scrolls
at the ending of oblivion....something along the lines of..."when the elder scrolls are written again, you shall be king!".....that may just be a ruse though...

They'd never give up on Oblivion - it's their key IP. I'd imagine they are already planning the next one.

What about a post-apocalyptic elder scrolls game.

I think there will be an Elder Scrolls game. After all, they can develop more than one game at a time and Oblivion sold very well.

3 - So wait...
They are saying the MAIN reason they are developing on the 360 is because it is easy to take the hard drive out and take to shows?

Are you freakin' serious? That's it?

If the ps3 gets another shoddy port because a dev can't carry a 10 lb case from the car to the stage, then I am just going to flip out.

Nope. They said that they chose the 360 as the lead platform because they are most familiar with it and "If you have the PC as your lead machine you have the problem of not knowing what configurations people have, how many gigs of RAM or what graphics card they have,"

Being able to just bring the HDD is a bonus, just like the exclusive content will be ;)

I don't know man, Bethesda have a pretty solid hold on PS3 developement or porting.

Look at the oblivion port, the PS3 version runs in 1280x720 (720p) and the 360 version runs at 1024x600 2xAA (600p).

Not saying that fallout 3 will be the same, but I'm just saying that bethesda know what they are doing when it comes to the PS3's hardware.

I agreed with you there. That is the only thing that still keeps me interested in the game. I know they did a good job with Oblivion so I will give them a benefit of a doubt, although a review first would be nice.

"Look at the oblivion port, the PS3 version runs in 1280x720 (720p) and the 360 version runs at 1024x600 2xAA (600p)."

Well that is because the 360 got a direct port at the beginning of 2006 and the PS3 came a full year later, more devtime to get things running more optimal.

Try multiplatform games with the same releasedate and dev time

GTAIV: PS3 on 640p, 360 on 720p

"When I say exclusive I mean it is exclusive to just the Xbox 360.

"If you want to play the Fallout 3 downloadable content you will need to have an Xbox 360 or a PC."

Hilarious. It's ONLY exclusive to the Xbox 360. All you have to do is have an Xbox 360 OR PC. lol

Shouldnt they worry about getting Fallout 3 out in stores first ?

Recent previews of Fallout 3 are negative. I am worried about that game.....

6.2 - Thats weird....
because that's not what I've been reading. Here's the thing developer's only get half an hour with this game, that may be enough for Gears or Resistance but a game of this scale that's not enough time, many of the previews say that they haven't even scratched the surface.

Still, half-an-hour is still enough time to judge the quality of things like the shooting, the movement, the intuitiveness of the UI, etc.

Fallout 3 bombing is a very real possibility.

I hope they work first in a new Elder Scroll's before they launch a Fallout 4.

The Oblivion GotY edition for the PS3 had the expansion Shivering isles on the CD but ppl that already bought the original game complained and then they put o the PSN the Shivering Isles expansion for DL.

I'm sure Fallout 3 will look better and have much less loadings on the PS3 when compared to the game on the xbox360,just like Oblivion game did.

I belive the Fallout 3 will look better on the PS3 Vs DLC on xbox360.
If the game does not look ok on the PS3 ppl will just not buy the game for the console and probably will not buy anxbox360 cause that.
That kind game attracts different type of gamers, the ones that READ reviews before buying it.And if the review is not good the game will sell a lot less.
If it was a new Mario game it would sell very well anyways if the reviews were good or not.

You are funny. The 360 is leadplatform, so it'll probably have the best looking version on the consoles.

The previes on this game are good, if not to say great. And the lead platform + DLC make it the best version on the 360.

"Finally, Hines was good enough to confirm that there are plans to extend the Fallout franchise to a fourth game.

"We didn't buy the Fallout franchise to just do Fallout 3 and then stop," he said.

"But let's get this one out of the door before we worry about the next one.'"

Seems like a confirmation to me.

Well, at the rate Fallout 3 came to us I suppose I should look forward to buying Fallout 4 with my Social Security check.
