yup yup. C&C Kane's Wraith is a flop in sales. Though C&C: T.W3 went gold. Pros outweight the cons since it's easy to port and chance for another gold. The manpower needed to port to ps3 and trend in software sells for less than hype games is probably not worth it.

Yeah, but that's one of the few lazy developer's left out there (Valve the other)...they don't want to modify their engines, they want to develop at the less cost possible and is understandable...don't care about the game but a shame as the PS3 supports Mouse & KY without any problem

You silverchode - you hit the nail right on the head. Its not that the engine can't run on the PS3 the problems is its not in the budget for this game to make a PS3 version. They don't have the money to hire a PS3 coder to port it. They are also stating that they don't have high hopes for this game on the PS3 so they will just take the potential sale hit.

I don't think it has anything to do with budget (alone). Anyone in here ever re-invented the wheel, means rewrote existing code ? I know our engine is in development since about 4+ years now. I couldn't imagine to re-write the whole damn thing because we "forgot" SPUs in the first place. Well, yeah, its a money thing. It would cost us about another 4 years with a complete new team because we couldn't simply stop working on the existing code.

I would guess strategic games engines use a very traditional approach (number of objects and conditions and relations to each other), which use a lot of branching code etc. To re-write that so it could utilize the SPUs might be tough. And, well, the PS3 does not have enough "discrete" horse power for a straight port (360 might be easier with a coherent architecture).

It can work, obviously. I am playing CiV in 1080p on my PS3 without any trouble - but I think even this game is far from optimized for the PS3. To really achieve this, they'd start over from scratch, I'd think. They will at some point. Its a pity I love strategy games and would like to see more on the PS3 - now that I have seen how well CiV plays here.

Ah, come on. Even if its more expensive, that doesn't mean they are making a loss selling/producing it for the PS3. PS3 games sell as well. Ok, they might not make $2M, but you would rather give away $1M instead, hah ?

Most cost effort these days goes into art anyway and that can be shared between the platforms.

I was speaking on the matter that EA concentrates on the XBOX 360 and not the competition. yea they release titles (covering my butt) and what not but you would think for a third party company (the largest), they would make things equal. Granted the 360 have a hardware number lead in the USA, but SONY's system isn't the SATURN or the Jaguar. So you would think they would do soemthing about that to take advantage of the increasing numbers and the fact that the PS3 is mouse and keyboard compatible (hopefully they would make it optional since some gamers would probably prefer to play RTS on a controller). It was more of a frustration on my part for saying "Honestly, why don't they just merge with Microsoft", but I felt it was valid nonetheless.

I wouldn't go that far and say we don't need EA, but i understand where they coming from with the ps3 bieng difficult to program and what not. But It was not a game i was really looking forward to, so its not really lost to me personally. But i can't speak the same for the other ps3 gamers. And plus this game is coming out for the P.c so really its not that big of a lost.

Im not being a fanboy,,, i just think that if they make RTS's, they should make them on the ps3 because of its keyboard and mouse support. I bought a really nice bluetooth keyboard and mouse for my comp, and with the press of a button, I can use it for my ps3. Its a genius invention, is it not?

Its dumbed down to make it fun to play on a console. You can play it thru in a day. There's a lot they could add - even for the console version (like more enemy nations, or selectable, bigger world, better settler management, etc). But it is addicting and fun to play.

A hard core RTS needs a PC, I could imagine. For me personally, its a perfect fit. I do not have the time to play thru that for days, weeks or month. Its accessible and easy (enough) to handle.

I am not so sure any more, if a hard core RTS should run on a console. Maybe it should, but then it should also support M&KB.

Yes it took four years of development, but that was hard work there. Kojima and his team proved that with perseverance and hard work, they can made a really good game.

EA can do the same but they're allowing excuses to get in the way. Yes, the PS3 is a hard system to develop for, but seriously...would it hurt to put some effort into working on the game? And if they need help, they can ask Sony.

MGS4 was built on the PS3. C&C was built on the PC/360. To port that code over from the 360 would take a lot of money, time and another development team. They could do it, but don't want to put the resources into a game that they don't think will sell very well on the PS3.

Think of something you can make easily, like dough, and try and find a completely different way to make it and have it come out the same as you used to make it. That's how hard it is to rewrite code for the PS3 architecture. It's not laziness, it's just business. That's why most devs are leading on the PS3 because they can port it over to the 360 with ease.

Nooooooooo!!! not again!!! another 3rd party game has slipped through the grasp of Sony and the POS3??? this is just absurd!!! I have to pinch myself to see if this is really happening again!!!
I been telling you and telling you fanboys that developing and then coding to BD on POS3 is the biggest nightmare and is too time consuming and when something takes too much time in this business it means its just too costly to take a risk on possibly a mediocre return. Especially 3rd party games. Ea learned a big lesson with Halflife2 Orange Box.
And the only one to blame at the end the of the day is Sony. They should of consider developers needs when they were in the design phase of the cell architecture. Hopefully Sony will learn from this major F*CK UP and get there Sh*t together whenever the PS4 comes out. Oh well, time will tell. Time will tell fanboys.
