Soul Calibur 4 - no Trophies or in-game music

TalkPlayStation.com writes:"The Playstation 3 version of Namco Bandai's fighting em up, Soul Calibur 4 doesn't support trophies. It has an in-game achievement system called required honor. Basically when you unlock something, it will pop up on the screen notifying you that you've unlocked what you've just achieved. To view the achievement you need to head over to the meseum at the battle records.

Also, there is no support for custom in-game music."

i think what sony needs to do with in-game music is make it more similar to the 360s. As far as i know devs dont do anything to enable custom music its all done by the OS so they dont have a choice.

And i doubt devs will want users to be listen to their own music instead of the music they worked so hard to compose so thats why they wont implement the feature

1.1 - I don't think if it's the OS doing the work...
I think that Microsoft requires you to have those things. I think that's what Sony should do. Good point about the music thing towards the end.

They cant do it that way because it was pattended by MS, for now this is the only way that they can do it at least until home comes out

that sucks, hopefully they'll find a way around it. I don't exactly know how HOME will they would use it in home, but if they do, awesome.

I am not sure why developers would necessarily care if you listen to the music or not....I mean by this time, you have already bought the game or rented. I could understand if this was Guitar Hero, where the music actually mattered....and factors into somebody making the purchase.

2.2 - sure it sounds bad when listed like that
but honestly, wouldn't you rather get a patch later than delay the game's release?

EDIT: now that I think about it, it's not that bad. the game already has it's own achievements. and come on are you really thinking about rumble when playing an awesome game? thought so. the only one that kinda sucks is the in-game music.

nope it doesn't have all of that. but maybe when the game launch their is a possibility that their might be custom music. I notice, when you got to change stage music, it stated that currently not available to download. There was a patch release the other day (patch 1.01) and I don't know what it does. But I did try ingame music, and it didn't work.

That feature is for the DLC music they will offer in the future.
No in-game music to make the DLC soundtracks more appealing.

I expected in game music not to be supported. Trophies? Can live without it but it would've been neater to have Trophies than in game achievements.

it would be great to have rumble but then again nah its not that big of a deal. for the trophies not being in game that would of been awesome and i was thinking about about getting both versions for my ps3 and 360 but until they find a away around this "no trophies, no in game music" ps3 is gonna have to wait, i just think the thing is bogus

hmmm.... ;)

Back on topic.
I don't understand why rumble isn't part of SCIV when even Tekken:DR has this feature. I personally wasn't expecting trophies but I was didn't think for a second rumble would not be included. Even still I am getting this for the PS3 because I am not shelling out $50+ dollars for an arcade stick to play on the 360 since the D pad is.... well let's just say not good.

Sony can not do Custom Music the way Microsoft does it because has a Patent on it. If Sony did Custom Music the same way Microsoft did Microsoft would be able to sue Sony. Sony can still do Custom Music just not how Microsoft does it which is probably why it is not a required thing for PS3 Games. Sony has to figure out another & easier way to make Custom Music on the PS3

MS doesn't have a patent for in-game music.

They filled out a patent APPLICATION for it.

The application was denied.

Why do you think MS never touted HAHA SONY YOU CANT DO IN-GAME MUSIC CUZ WE GOT IT ON LOCK!!

There's nothing stopping Sony from implementing it officially.

There are already games on PS3 with it. If MS owned it, then Sony would be getting sued already.

@AlterEgo: It's pointless, that ridicules myth has etched itself deep into the uninformed minds. Especially as Sony made the ingame music feature an exact copy of the MS version. It's an OS api function that handles music volume and a player and has to be used by the developers to work. And the game situation is actually exactly as the one when MS included custom soundtrack support on the original xbox, lotsa games are not compatible, some will get a patch, others not, after a while new games came out with support for rthe feature, and finally on the 360 it was a standard feature required for a release on the system.

9 - This doesnt bother me much, considering I was not gonna even rent the game
but I think its real sh*tty that they would give the 360 version all thats in the list. No rumble for the ps3 version? Are you serious?! That right there is uncalled for. I look at games in the ps3's library and even games that where out last year have rumble. And one more thing. Why would the game get delayed for trophies? It only takes about a week to make them. SSDHD had them the first day the trophy system was implemented. I think that the company that is making this game is a total failure, and I will never buy a game from a company that will cater to the 360 and not the ps3 as well.

9.1 - Hmmm
You will not buy from a company that caters to the 360 and not the ps3 as well? Well that is an interesting statement given that you do not even know the reasons why this stuff was not implement....achievements are required on all xbox games, I do not think much work has to be done for in game music for the 360, and are we forgetting rumble is in every 360 controller. By your logic, there are going to be a lot of games you miss out on......but chances are you do not really follow your statement. What PS3 games do you own so far?

That's still BS that Namco couldn't implement it. Last time I checked Trophy and in-game support was released about a month before this game's release. If Namco can't invest enough time to implement simple features such as this; they don't deserve my money. It's one thing not to have trophy and custom soundtracks but to not have rumble support is inexcusable.

You fail Namco with me at least. If there's going to be a patch, it's going to be all 3 or bust for me. This tells me that Namco is being lazy. I don't care about whatever situation there is. If other games, especially Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is getting trophy support, then I expect the same out of every single game out there after FW 2.4. And last time I checked; Uncharted was released before FW 2.4 and it's still getting trophy support! Pathetic of Namco to be cutting corners. It's not about favoritism, it's being just plain lazy.

Does Sony have to put a gun to every single developers' head just to get trophy support? It shouldn't have to be that way, but clearly the developers will cut whatever corners they can just to get the game out. Like I said before, I'll take my money elsewhere. I never liked the direction SCIV took, and this was the final straw for me.

I blame Sony, they should have had rumble available on day one, and not just say that it is last gen. They had plenty to sort this and pay the required royalties but they just got too big headed and said that is was not needed.

10 - You wanna know what games I own on the ps3?
Ive owned damn near every good game that has come out,, with the multiplats on my ps3 because I will never pay for live online again.
They could have at least put rumble in though, despite trophies probably not being that hard to add on in the game. Rumble is freakin last gen for christ's sake.

12 - I have a copy of Soul Caliber IV in my hand right now
I have had it for about a week in the store in which I work. That means that it was probably shipped a week prior. Which means they were probably manufactured the week before that. Meaning that there probably wasn't enough time to put it in. Hopefully there is a patch, but I can understand why there aren't trophies.

Rumble, that's another story.

13 - We,Ps3 users we should give preference to buy games that has avaiable support to trophies.
In december when I will go buy a few Ps3 games for the cristmas I am sure to give preference to buy games with trophy support.
Only game that having or not because I will buy anyways is Fallout 3,IF the Ps3 version is as good or better then the one to xbox360 other wise I will just get the Pc version.

Honestly, who thought there would be trophies? We have an official list of the games that are supported and will be supported in the future, and Soul Calibur 4 was not on the list. Of course they can always be patched in later, but I doubt this will happen. It is no big loss, I still haven't gotten all my Super Stardust trophies because the stupid game is too hard. :)

I am not bummed out at all about the no trophy thing, but I swear if the online sucks on the PS3 and is good on the 360, then I will be frustrated. Tekken on PS3 is nothing but problems. Once I get into a match in Tekken, there is hardly any lag, but finding a match takes forever and never works properly.

17.1 - This is the reason why
There are certain multiplatform games that I play on the 360. If its not a popular exclusive game, or popular multi-game like say Madden or Call of Duty 4, then I don't bother getting the game to play on PSN.

Some games just fair better on Live due to the amount of online players. Soul Calibur 4 may not have the problem though, so we'll see.
