The 8 Least Compelling Games of E3

Look, there were interesting-looking games at E3, for sure. Resident Evil 5, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2 -- these titles and others are looking exciting and fun. Some of them even look like they might change or advance the face of gaming in some minor way.

But for all of the intrigue and excitement, a bunch of games on the slate that got some major press at this event just don't do it for Crispy Gamer. So here, in reverse order, are their least compelling games of E3.

The only reason this guy is WRONG... is because he hasn't seen anything yet.

I don't think he understands the diversity of the game.

Has everyone seen the 3 or 4 player co-op game escaping from poisonous gas? No? Well then people like that (who obviously had no interest in it anyway, so fair enough) can't comment on it being underwhelming in general.

And he assumes everyone wants to climb gential mountains. Well, I for one won't be. And most of the people intersted in this, seem liek they won't.

I don't find LBP interesting (or compelling...) at all, I know I'm never going to spend my precious cash on it. But I can understand others do find it awesome, and I'm not gonna say it looks like it sucks because it doesn't, its just not my cup of tea. I'm not hating on it, I'm just saying that not everybody has the same idea of fun as you do.

I find nothing of interest in LBP. But then what I've seen of it looks tedious. I am leaving an open mind that there will be something in this that involves more than a mod community making up stuff.

I agree whole-heartedly with the sentiments on the Wii. The most I've done is play bowling with my kids. The rest of the wagglin' blows mighty chunks. Can we just stop considering Nintendo as being included in the game universe at this point? I mean, we don't comment on Bejeweled, right? That's basically what they have created: a box for playing crap like Bejeweled.

I completely agree with his comments on the Sonic RPG. Bioware or not, that game will suck. Spore will bore. Lego Batman could be interesting just to see who all the unlocks are, but I agree that it'll be lacking in story.

Fighting games are a dime a dozen these days, and with Soul Calibur IV likely to be a kick-a$$ game, who needs anything else?

Halo Wars, if it ever comes out, will be a struggle due to the console controls of an RTS.

And Splinter Cell wasn't even really at E3, so I'm not sure how it could be any less compelling than being almost non-existent.

I'd say the two that were meant to start a flame war were Spore and LBP, two games which have become Internet darlings... without anyone having played them extensively yet.

Who knows? They might all rock. Then again, given that they haven't seen the light of day yet, they might all suck.

Number one and two are LBP and Spore!

I guess CounterStrike and Unreal Tournament are likely bad games since it's user created content that make them going, and going, and going!

Sure 99.9% of the user content is not that good, but when 1,000,000 people get at it, that 0.1% is a lot of great user created stuff.

I think he is right on with LBP. Its a prettied-up, fake 3-d sidescroller. Basically the same as Donkey Kong Country on the Super Nintendo. Whoo ho, you can play co-op and make your own levels. I predict that user created levels will show up in three main forms: dirty picture recreations, advertising for favorite... somethings, and impossible hard just for the hell of it. No, doesn't sound fun to me either. Should be a PSN game if anything.

Ok that's just sad saying LBP isn't compelling they must be trying to get hits indeed. Also wasn't Splinter Cell not even at E3? How can it be on a E3 list when it wasn't even there. You want un compelling games? Ok you got Animal Crossing, Wii Music, Your In the Movies, Shaun White Snowboarding etc. Most of these games on this list are very compelling projects that alot of people are very excited for. If this guy isn't excited for them then he is in the wrong hobby and industry.

Very true, but don't act like Xbox fanboys don't get all in a tizzy the moment you say anything slightly negative or constructive criticism based about Halo, Gears, or any other "precious" 360 title. Then again, those are the same drones who think Avatars and Lips are unique, original ideas... but I digress...

It's also no secret the media is still based on PS3 hatorade, and while everyone IS entitled to their opinions, this is another no name site attempting to get hits by bashing something that looks to be unique and popular.

@Response - I see just as many 360 fanboys personally as a new user here. Go to Gamefaqs, even the PS3 General is ruled by Xbox fanboys. Fighting fanboys with fanboyism is just asking for more reprisals. I also guarantee you most of the Xbox fanboys don't own a PS3, and have no clue about anything related to it as well. Yet for some reason, it sucks to them. Around and around it goes.

Oh I believe you. But its not just words, its actions. I've yet to see this Bloodmask character EVER post anything except anti-PS3 related stories. The fanboys know who they are, and its rather pathetic, on both sides. That's why I quit Gamefaqs, waste of time, same crap going around and around. IT's a damn hobby, not a pissing match, so I don't know why people treat it as such.

Well, this is NEWS 4 GAMERS. If people approve an OPINION as being a news, sure enough, you will get 10,000 different OPINIONS. This is where the problem is. I wish there was a website: OPINIONS 4 GAMERS so this site would go back to being only NEWS. But since OPINIONS make it every day, then brace yourself for tons of different OPINIONS.

"why do you want to sit for hours to make one map that probably looks like 10,000 other maps other people have made."

Never played any game like this I guess? First thing you do is only play the top rated user content. That keep you busy for very, very long. Then, and only then, you and a bunch of friends start going "what if..." and making levels that are totally ugly for the rest of the world but simply awesome for you and those friends for that short period of time. I remember making Unreal maps with traps, no lights, one sniper spot 300 ft in the air, buggy like hell, but after thousands hours playing the same usual maps over and over, it was a riot to try a funky new map. And sure enough, once every now and then, even a good map could come up of this mess. At one point, there was no better news than getting an email from a friend: "Made a new map, see you all at 7:00p.m." Some maps we would play for only 15 minutes. But some kept us entertained all evening, trying to discover all the twists our friend came up with.

To be fair I consider myself the highest authority of Games, here's my opinion:

LittleBigPlanet: is new and fresh, and even if 99% of the levels being made are ridiculous, I am one person who will make awesome levels. It has 4 player Co-op, and levels can be so radically different, it really nullifies this guys opinion.

Gears of War 2: Looked great, but looked like the original. And my favourite part was the shield (although it kind of neutralises stop and pop) and my least favourite was the awful looking fire, and weird building collapse.

Halo 3: Is overrated. Halo series in general is overrated, thanks to a great dose of marketing and mainstream support. But this is only in America and UK.

Resistance 2: Everyone knows the original was a sub-par game rushed out. And Insomniac haven't got the FPS in their blood, I don't see Resistance 2 being good at all. I think the hyped is totally unjust.

I was equally critical about things on either side of this race, now that's my opinion. Since you know I am not a fanboy, that's how radical views can be.

Do I demonstrate my point?

There is no point arguing, because you might naturally disagree, regardless of fanboy leanings.

Its a full fledged game, it has its own story mode, which you can play in coop, 50 levels, it has also coopetition stages. The create moon(stagebuilder) character customization. Online- where you can play against or with (or both!) 3 others. non splitscreen local multiplayer and the abilities to upload and download stages and objects. It has trophies, video chat in game, eye support. Does that not sound like a full fledged game when most crap these days are being sold at 60 and 50 bucks. Remember, as this game slowly evolves into other genre of games its value will increase (non economically) Fighting games, car racing, sideways shooting. Catch my drift?

It does sound like a full game. See i didnt even know it had a story mode :=S Maybe i should do some more research before i post xD.
But if you didnt know what LBP was and then someone described it as "a game where you create your own levels" (Well thats the first thing i would of said) you would think that it would be a cheaper game, but if you go into detail like you did, it makes sense =P.
But yeah, i get it now 50 - 60 bucks is a reasonable price. =]

LittleBigPlanet is a revolutionary game title and literally EVERY major gaming site has fallen in love with LBP. LittleBigPlanet is a day one purchase for me.

G4 even gave LittleBigPlanet the Game of the Show award and they even chose LBP over Gears 2!!!!! The fact that LBP is so different and unique is why so many people love it and it's why I love it.

We know that Nintendo's offerings were a bit underwhelming, but Halo Wars seems to be shaping up nicely, LBP may be the best platformer of the year, Lego Batman looks like another quality entry in the Lego games series, Spore might be the most anticipated PC game of the year, and he seems to be completely missing the point about MK/DCU.

I love my PS3, I prefer it to my 360, but LBP doesn't really get me all the excited either. If it were not for all the hype and great things I read and hear about it, I would not have looked twice at it. But, as I did with Halo 3, I am gonna buy it based on all the good stuff being said.

I won't say I was disappointed in buying Halo 3, it was worth my $50, but the hype was too much for it. I have a feeling the same will probably be said about LBP once I start playing it. I hope not, I hope its great, but I doubt it. All I know is my wife will absolutely love it, and hopefully I can get her gaming a bit :)

18.1 - I played it...

The control is incredibly difficult. I think people really underestimate how making a sidescroller 3d(not just graphics) can really mess up the gameplay.

Watch the G4 demo of the game at E3. The only person actually accomplishing anything in the level is the game designer. Morgan and Adam are too busy trying to not get crushed while they're stuck in an impossible to get out of pit (if it weren't for the developer being used as an easy respawn).

I like this guy, even if I don't agree with some of his opinions. I think Spore will likely turn out alright, and from what I've seen of Little Big Planet, it looks really interesting (though it could go the Wii Sports route of being played).

Is meant for everyone. No matter how awesome it might look to some people it'll still like "meh" to others. It's like why some people don't like Halo, GoW, MGS it's just not everyone's cup of tea.

With that being said. I do not agree with him, LitteBigPlanet to me looks flat out fun and creative. Just because the game doesn't have any guns or scantily clad women doesn't meant it can't be good or interesting.

3 - "The Eight Least Compelling Games of E3"

That is the name of the story right? Then why is even even mentioning Splinter Cell Conviction because it was not shown or even discussed at E3. Halo Wars is up in the air because I'm hearing they really nailed the RTS controls and it works excellent. The rest of the list I totally agree with especially Little Big Pedophile.
