Kojima: "PS3 is a monster machine"

In a recent interview with the BBC's Click program, Hideo Kojima, creator of the acclaimed Metal Gear franchise, has revealed that the first few years of development on MGS4 were "trial and error".

"We started to work on Metal Gear Solid 4 four years ago, after finishing Metal Gear Solid 3," said Kojima-san. "At that time we really didn't know what the PS3 was going to be like, so the first two years was all about experimenting, developing and trial and error."

"In the last two years, we've known what the PS3 is capable of, the specifications of it and how we can utilise it," he continued. "PS3 is a monster machine. That's why it took so much time to create Metal Gear Solid 4."

im sick of hearing its coming to the 360. it can never happen. i dont even want to get into specs and invite flamebait...even though the 360 cant handle the game...especially act 3...did i say something...? so ill just say that the game has apple and sony logos and some voices are owned by sony. so it will never come out on the 360.

Kojima never wanted it on Xbox 360. It won't come to xbox 360. I think thats why they spead heaps of Apple and Sony products throughout the game, because those companies have a contract with Konami to use those products in their game. And i somehow don't think MS will like Apple products and ps3's lounging about the levels. Let alone the 360 cannot even handle this game and Jack Tretton once again said MGS4 IS exclusive for the ps3 this E3 after the FF13 announcement. Anyway.........

When i look at games early in the ps3's life cycle like Gran Turismo 5: Prologue (another game 360 cannot do) then i just wonder what games will look like in years to come. Killzone 2 surpassed its trailer. Apparently God of War 3 looks practically as good as its trailer. The BBC reporter had to pick his jaw up off the ground after watching that 'mystery game'. Exciting times await. It's a good time to be a ps3 owner

I find it sad that Ps3 fanboys are still using the terms the xbox 360 can handle X game.

First it was Motorstorm and then it luanched with 6 tracks : (
Then it was DMC and then you got punched in the mouth by the multiplat monster'
Then it was FF13 and then you got punched in the mouth by the multi plat monster''
Now the latest bastillion of hope is MGS4.

Face it both consoles are almost equal. any game the ps3 can do, the 360 can do. Face it. FF13 used to be the biggest defense of the graphicall power of the ps3 over the 360 and now it's multiplat. stop saying a game can't be done by system A. It makes you look stupid when it's ported.

The reasons why MGS4 won't come to 360 has nothing to do with the technical aspects of the game, it has everything to do with the funding sony has indirectly provided to Kojima( under the table or not). Rest assure, that this game is a PS3 exclusive and that Uncharted cannot be done on 360( lol).

The Wii version of Dead Rising is not a port. It's a totally different game with Wii graphics and less zombies. It will not look like the 360 version. It's a different game and it's not a multiplat game.

Now if you are trying to say that the 360 version will be a scalled down version of the ps3 version, I will like to laugh in your face. It's a multi plat game and honestly of all the multiplat games so far the 360 has the edge. There are a few exceptions but the difference between the two are not noticable really. The fact remains that MGS is do able on the 360. You may not like it but it's a fact.

What stood out to me, is I didn't realize that Kojima had spent 4 years on the game. Two of those years expirementing and preparing for the machine. That is crazy!

To all you fanboys, it took 4 years to create as someone would say "HD" game. I would rather have a slightly sub HD game and get one every two years!

Also, what is up with the mess of frequent installation between levels? MGS4 is a great game, but an odd for sure.

With the success the MGS4 has, the cost of development probably negated it and made the profit margin average. A game like MGS4 should have raked in a lot of cash for Konami.

Thats the thing, Halo 3 needed to be marketed like that because Halo 2 didn't break any ground so people figured Halo 3 would be a half-assed game too. Then look at Metal Gear's marketing(hardly any). It has LOYAL fans not a bunch of casual playing drones. Besides MGS4 speaks for itself. Halo 3 needed others the sing their song for people to pay attention to it(failed).

not the best game i have played, it was let down by frequently loading the next scene.

the game did not seem to flow like uncharted does.

i loved the style of the motorcycle chase but again it was let down by frequent loading screens.

can someone explain why bluray is so good even though it is clearly not fast enough to run mgs4 from disc?

That was actually in reference to swapping to disc 2 on MGS1 on ps1, if you look at when/where Otacon says that. I'd imagine if the game were on 360, they would just have to change the dialog to, "Snake, it's time to put in disc 5". It won't happen though lol

bumnut, in my life i have had to buy Final Fantasy VII 3 times because i have lost the 2nd and third discs and the first was majorly scratched. I have had to buy Gran Turismo 1 twice because i lost the disc. I have lost about 5 albums because i have lost the disc and alot of my demo discs are unplayable because they are too scratched.

I would rather take 2 minutes to install each chapter (each chapter took me like 2.5 hours play time the first time i played) then having to get up and change a disc, and risk losing one of the 6 dvd's that MGS4 on the 360 would need, therefore meaning i can't complete the game. I actually hate installs myself, but i only hate the installs which take half an hour. 2 minutes, for each chapter. Plus bluray is scratch proof. I am so glad FFXIII on ps3 will be on 1 disc. PS3 is just, a better built machine, end of.

Hm he thinks a machine is a "beast" because it can render his game at 1024 x 768 with 2 x AA. He better avoid the PC's then because it would blow his mind even a midrange PC can render games better than that. I haven't used such a low resolution in 5 years on my PC.

and horizontal resolution is MUCH MORE important, then vertical.

To run MGS4 on pc, you would need something like 8 core intel processor and GF9800GTX, since the game was optimized for PS3, and on mid range pc it would just go below 10 fps.

As for not comparing a PC with a console, I dunno you have a chat with your PS3 buddies and tell them to stop comparing the PS3 to the PC all the time. I do see an odd pattern though, they only compare the PS3 to the PC when it is "favourable" to the PS3, hm strange that.

If the game needed those specifications the PS3 wouldn't be able to play it you idiot. I'd like to see a computer rated at 3.2 ghz with a total memory of 512mb produce a game as beautiful as MGS4 or any other PS3 exclusive. What about a brand new $400 PC vs a $400 PS3?

Well enough about comparisons, of course a PC built with gaming in mind surpasses graphics seen on consoles but this is not about PC's. PC gaming will and always be above console gaming in terms of graphics. Too bad all the good games with good gameplay are first seen on consoles or exclusive on the platform. If that wasn't the case I'd get serious with PC gaming all over again.

Yeah and of course the PC can't use blu-ray can it .......... Oh wait yes it can. All we need to do is shove a cheap blu-ray drive in there if we want. We could even install the whole game to the PC if we were bothered, 50gbs wouldn't even make a dent in my 1TB hard disc.

To be honest I don't actually care for MGS I always found the games boring myself. However I cannot stand typical rubbish propoganda like this. It is quite clear that Kojima is about as unbiased as CliffyB. Now PS3 owners are quick to attack CliffyB the minute he says something (I think he is a moron too), yet the minute Kojima opens his gob apparently he is being totally truthful. The guy gets his money from Sony, USE your brains of course he is going to talk glowingly about the console.

GTAIV was an overhyped piece of garbage. I sold that game not too recently along with Assassin's Creed. And the 360 was the one that was dumbed down. Rockstar complained about the space on the 360 because of it's limitations. If they had made GTAIV exclusive, I would still have the game and it probably would have played better.

I own both consoles and I am not a fanboy or have a favorite but when I read this nonsense I just had to reply.

Could you please list the games for me on the 360 that look and run better than Gears of War (a 1st generation title) on the 360. I could name a couple that could be considered on par but I would not say they are better then Gears. If anything I am slightly disappointed that Gears is still the bar for the 360.

This has always been one of the Playstation strengths. To progress year after year. Just look at 1st generation PS(one) titles to Tekken 3 or 1st gen PS2 titles to God of War 2. I honestly don't recall this with the XBox and so far I am not seeing it from the 360.
