LittleBigPlanet detailed: 50 levels, no ingame music, and more

French video game site LivePlay3 writes:

Scheduled for October 2008, the final version of Little Big Planet reveals more about its content.

Understand first that there will be fifty levels to go with boss at the end of some of them. At the level of difficulty, the developers promise that everyone can play this long-awaited title, while specifying that that will be many more challenges identified for gamers.

It will obviously be possible to die, but the introduction of numerous checkpoints should afford not too take the lead. I've talked about boss earlier, well aware that some will be very difficult if not impossible to beat if you play personal. Indeed, with your mutual friends will sometimes be necessary.

Latest information, you can not listen to your own music in Little Big Planet , developers have preferred to create many music tracks to make the action even more immersive"

1 - This is what happens when you leave custom soundtracks up to the developers.
It would of at least been nice to have the feature while creating levels.

Funny really, as Alex from MM said they have small speakers you can place anywhere on the level, then when a characters runs past that speaker a song/tune/piece of music can be played. This piece of music being in the creators hands and allowing you to use your own music.

Perhaps if attaching a song your own to a map and then uploading it to share infringes on some copyright laws?

It is probably due to the rumor that you can sell your own levels...if you put your own mp3 on there, copyright laws come into play and you would have to pay royalties and what not. If you are able to sell your levels, then you can see what a nightmare it would be to be able to use your "custom soundtrack". This is a smart solution if this indeed is the case!

1.5 - looks like they have chosen creativity over custom soundtrack
let's be honest a game that lets you create your own levels from scratch is going to be very harddrive intensive, jpegs and custom objects etc are most likely going to be streamed as the level progresses it's going to be the same with alot of other PS3 games too which use the HDD alot they won't be able to do custom soundtrack either.

Leaving it up to the developers is a good thing because now you can play the game how developers wanted you to. Like for example a horror game developers will most likely not let you have custom sound tracks so you can stay immersed. If they choose not to they obviously want you to listen to their music choices.

3.1 - The issues of copyright would be too large
So I never expected that. But I was hoping to be able to play through levels and choose music from my HDD. AH well, they'll no doubt have a great soundtrack lined up, including The Go! Team :D

3.2 - no ingame music
meaning you won't be able to replace the ingame track by your songs on your PS3 HDD..very disappointing.

thanks but that absolutely stinks!! That sucks so much! A major part of the unique feel of my levels were gonna be the music. Aaargh, friggin hell. They said they were gonna have it before. Aparently there were triggers you'd run past and that would play the music. An interviewer asked Alex Evans once if it would be possible to make it so if you could run through a level with hundreds of triggers it would play the music fast or slow, so you would have to keep the pace up to make the music sound good. So they DID have it before. Frickin hell man. What about the people who were gonna recreate their favourite games aswell. They can't add the music to go with it. This is such bad news for me. lol this is actually worse for me then FF13 going multiplatform

I want to get a proper translation.

does it mean No in game music ie, Play music from your hdd from the XMB. Or does it mean, you can't put in your own music into the stage.

If its the second one, then i can understand. Copyright etc etc.

5 - If they did allow unique in game...
music everyone should've know it would be limited to your PS3. If they don't add the ability to place your own music I for one am fine with that...for now.

I seriously hope something got lost in translation. How does 'not' including in-game music make the game 'more' immersive?? Shouldn't it be the other way round?? Geez i hope they let you use your own music for the levels. Come on Media Molecule don't stumble now guys

This never bothered me. Just play your computer while you play. A lot of people have their computer in the same room. If not then hook up your MP3 player to something and play it.

I could honestly not give a cat crap if i can't listen to in-game music from the XMB in LBP, but its including your own music into your levels which i care about. So that when you upload it online, people who download your levels will listen to the music you put in it. There are alot of ways you can create levels around the music, and personalised music plays a huge role in personalising levels. I cannot believe they've cut it

9.1 - Its copyright laws
If you create a level and put Britney Spears "Hit me one more time" in it then upload it for others to use MM could be held responsible if the RIAA decides to go Napster style.

While disappointing somewhat its expected. I'm sure there will be all kinds of limitations resulting from copyright laws. You can take pictures and use them as textures in the game as well... I'm sure if you take a picture of a Corn Flakes box and upload it they can take it down due to trademark laws. Same with celebrity likeness. Just the way the world works...

I for one expected this and will still love the game. Every hands on makes me more excited for this game.

tch. I suppose the only way YouTube were eventually allowed to keep users using their own music was because Google paid millions in the end to make it possible. I know it shouldn't but this has actually really hit my anticipation for this game. The ideas i initially had are gonna be no-where near as spectacular as i hope they would be. This blows

..don't want you to top yourself.

And on topic.. yup stupid idea. The concept of controlling the music in your map sounds like great fun.. I'd love that on my N+ levels.

There is definitely a difference between "Putting music in to levels" and playing music through the XMB. Just wait until MM clear this up officially in English.

14 - Oh come on.
People, you had more common sense to know that it wasn't gonna fly legally. This decision stays true to the concept of the video game anyway. You literally CREATE. That includes the music for the levels, there is a music mixer in the game which people could spend hours with alone.

Plus this game is patchable right? So wouldn't that mean there would be additional features that could expand the mixer offering more variety?

This is a stupid move if you ask me, hell there are maps in games like Counter Strike Source with copyrighted music in them and tbh the industry doesn't seem to care that much, the only problem I could see is selling the copyrighted music, if so then don't allow levels to be sold with copyrighted stuff in it, thats one way they could do it.

You can still place music emitters within the level, and I already like the music they're making for this game.

17 - Sound is a important part of level design...
With proper sound effects you can create even more with just what's on screen.
I wanted to create hunted houses to scare people, without proper sound effects and music it would suck.

I hope what they mean is that players can not customize soundtracks, but the creator of the levels can implement the sounds and music, best through recorded by PS Eye or Mic.

i dont like the idea of not playing ur own music that option should be there because not everyone likes the music that comes with games e.g me.its not to late to add that feature so i hope sony tells them before it comes out.
