Did Valve Help Make PS3's Orange Box Suck?

Ripten's Dan Landis writes:

"In a recent interview at E3, Valve Software's Erik Johnson stated that the PS3 port of The Orange Box was done "mostly" by EA. So if it was only "mostly" done by EA, does that mean that Valve actually had a hand in making a game they consistently denied being a part of? Why does that even matter?

The only reason this could be a big deal is because Gabe Newell has always been down on the PS3, even going so far as to call it "a waste of everyone's time." Valve has always denied having a hand in the PS3 port, placing all of the blame for The Orange Box's issues squarely on EA's shoulders..."

The writer goes on to discuss why he thinks Valve was not actually involved and that this is all the result of angry fanboys.

because the PS3 gamers were stiffed with a half ass product, While Valve is being so stubborn and lazy they failed to make a quality product, thus bringing in more money. Well if i was valve i would be the same way, unless sony was going to feed me money for my expense's. It is just to costly to learn new tech nowaday's and then make a game for a machine where it might not sell well at all is a big gamble. And a gamble they do not want to take.

9.1 - I think Im one of the few who actually has this game on PS3 here

I dont see what the problem is, there might be minor slowdown compared to the other versions in certain spots but nothing you really notice.
Team Fortress 2 I havent played enough to see if there is a difference but I encountered no problems. Its just people being really picky and always wanting the best instead of playing the damn game.
Im in no way making excuses for Gabe, hes still a dumbass.

Half Life 2 is an amazing game that a lot of people who don't own a gaming PC didn't play...Then you have episodes 1 and 2 which turn an amazing 15 plus hour game into about 25 hours. Then you have Portal which is, without a doubt, the most addictive and satisfying puzzle game I've ever played. It's a shame that PS3 owners didn't get to experience a proper port of this because it's really an amazing deal.

You know something I have never seen such a bunch of whiners and whingers in my life. You guys are really letting the playstation brand down. You got a crappy port, big deal, it happens. PC gamers have been getting crap ports of your games for years but we don't go moaning about it all over the place.

It is clear Valve had NOTHING to do with the port, they handed it over to the lowest bidder which happened to be EA. A lot of you slag Gabe and Valve off for that, at least they made an attempt to bring the Orange box to the PS3, unlike companies like Insomniac, Naughty Dog and Konami, I don't see them going out of their way to cater for other console users. If you ask me those three companies are far more idle than Valve.

I dunno for some reason PS3 owners are quite content to keep games exclusive to them, but if something doesn't go THEIR way they will scream, shout, kick their little bootie clad feet and throw their rattle out of the pram because of it.

I played halflife 1 and 2 on pc,most of valve are ex microsoft employees,hence the hate"sucking up to old billy gate".

The only work they would have done on the PS3 version is sending the Source Engine to the EA studios that developed it.

VALVe are mainly PC developers, "see Half Life, TF2" and the 360 is very similar to a PC when developing it, meaning porting it over isn't gonna require an extreme amount of effort, unlike the PS3 version.

I can see it as, VALVe did not like the technology, and did not see a huge potential for profit on the PS3, so they thought lets polish up the PC and 360 version more while EA does whatever it wants with the mess that was Orange Box PS3.

Fanboys cry all you want, the best experience is on a computer, I used to own it for the 360, but TF2 is godly on the PC, you can't argue with that.

I agree, I have The orange box on PC and it runs at 120fps on my Alienware, the 360 version (which I rented for kicks) only runs at 30fps, I'll stick to whats Valve is best at, PC not console games.

It's because Gabe Newell is a lazy fat POS. The PS3 is based on C++ programing language, whats so hard about that program language. Lets just use the same directx 9 programing language that was used back in HL2 in 04', oh wait thats what the 360 uses. You lazy bastard C++ is far from specialized.

Well Valve said that they hate the PS3 and that the 360 was their main console of choice to work with so I believe it.
Valve really f***ed up with the PS3 Port.
